So an old friend just updated her facebook status as follows...

'Happy 6 month day to my lil (name of child)...the sexiest lil man ever!'

Seriously?! The last word I would think of to describe a 6 month old or a child full stop is 'sexy'. It just sounds wrong to me!

I think the word sexy has changed over the years

It now seems to mean 'gorgeous' more than anything really

I agree though, it made me cringe reading your OP

YULEingFanjo · 29/11/2011 17:29

YANBU.

LineRunnerSaturnalia · 29/11/2011 17:29

'Sexy' would appear to be the new 'cute.' We are soooooo behind the times, clearly.

I agree with you. In my world, it's weird.

OurPlanetNeptune · 29/11/2011 17:30

Weird.

JamieComeHome · 29/11/2011 17:31

Ewww. Inappropriate. I think it says it all about the pornification of our culture that "sexy" has come to mean cute

Esta3GG · 29/11/2011 17:32

I heard someone refer to a story about child abduction in India as a "very sexy story" the other day. Hmm

'Sexy' has been corrupted beyond all reason - but even so there are limits. Calling your baby sexy? Bleurgh.

SemperUbiSubUbi · 29/11/2011 17:33

I hate this. I also hate the term "little man" but thats not the question is it Grin

"sexy" means sexually attractive. I very much doubt this is what she means but dont see how someone can use the word sexy to describe their child.

Im no prude and Im not old but I think it is wrong.

WorraLiberty · 29/11/2011 17:35

It's used to describe food, wine, chocolate and even bloody wallpaper on some TV shows.

GemmaReeto · 29/11/2011 17:36

Im glad its not just me then! I just thought what a strange way to describe a baby. There are so many other words that spring to mind...cute, gorgeous, beautiful, handsome...why 'sexy'? Confused

Vile IMO, two of my friends referred to my DD as such, They were given short shrift from me.

She is 2, nothing sexy about her.
Cute, adorable, clever, kind, sweet, Pick any of those.

StealthPenguin · 29/11/2011 17:36

I call my little boy "beautiful", "handsome" and "wonderful" but I'd never refer to him as "sexy"!!!

Reminds me of when I was with one of my friends, who in turn ran into someone who hadn't known about her pregnancy. She picked up friends DD and said in the most endearing voice possible "Aren't you gorgeous! And look at your dress! Look at you all dolled up like a proper little slag!"

I was just Shock

FellatioNelson · 29/11/2011 17:36

It's a bit icky, but I agree with the others - the meaning has been hijacked somewhat.

Personally I am more alarmed at 'happy six month day' and two uses of the non word 'lil'.

shouldnotbehere · 29/11/2011 17:37

YANBU

JamieComeHome · 29/11/2011 17:37

OMG

kickingking · 29/11/2011 17:37

My step MIL called DS 'sexy' once when he was a baby.

I was appalled.

wasabisaucefortuna · 29/11/2011 17:39

Bleurgh!

YANBU!

WilsonFrickett · 29/11/2011 17:39

There is not one word of that status update that doesn't make me want to be sick in my mouth. Not. One. Word.

sigh...

JamieComeHome · 29/11/2011 17:40

the words Status Update make me shudder a bit

Thruaglassdarkly · 29/11/2011 17:41

Weird and ewwww...

WorraLiberty · 29/11/2011 17:42

The lady who used to own my dog called him sexy one day when I bumped into her whilst walking him Confused

She said to him "Oh there's my sexy little boy!"

I couldn't wait to get out of the bloody park Shock

SemperUbiSubUbi · 29/11/2011 17:44

This just reminded me actually, DS's Stoma nurse once called him sexy.

Yes a HCP calling an 10 month old baby sexy!

Me and DP both gave her the death stare and she never said it again.

JamieComeHome · 29/11/2011 17:44

Worra - possible she'd been reading "My Secret Garden" Wink

spartafc · 29/11/2011 17:49

Ew. Lil on it own is enough to make me hide a person's status. Combined with the 'sexy' bit, I think I'd be defriending.
I was waiting in a queue to use a baby changing cubicle once, the woman behind me was saying 'who's a sexy ickle girl den? Who's a sexy ickle girl?' to her, maybe 4 month old, DD. Made me want to rip my ears off.

flyingspaghettimonster · 29/11/2011 17:52

I loathe that - it seems to be a very chavvy thing to say and I hear Mum's saying 'who's a sexy boy then?' to babies in a cootchi-coo voice... makes me gag. :S

KeepInMindItsAlmostChristmas · 29/11/2011 17:54

Chavtastic
