I've read some theories on this and some people I know seem convinced we are being brainwashed through everything including The X Factor... Umm, aibu to think it is an unfounded theory?

Agent who are you calling slave?

AgentZigzag · 29/11/2011 23:33

hehe slavetofilofax chip(monkey).

Did you think I was one of 'them' trying to slip a bit of covert oppression in Grin

chipmonkey · 29/11/2011 23:38

Yes, I thought you were trying to subliminally convince us that we were your slaves by just slipping that "slave" in in the middle of a sentence and hoping we didn't notice.

AgentZigzag · 29/11/2011 23:49

I wouldn't if I were you chip, I accidently trod in somebodys after-pub vomit splat earlier Grin

It was a good 18 inches in diameter Envy

dancingmustard · 30/11/2011 00:56

Zeitgeist is a scream although there are some strange facts in the film that make you think.
Specially about modern religions and where they came from.
As a scientifically biased individual religion sorta lost me on the virgin birth thing.

ShengdanRoad · 30/11/2011 04:22

It's unfortunate that people like David Icke exist, because he gives the whole "conspiracy" movement a bad name and discredits serious researchers.

I think it's foolhardy and closed-minded to shut ourselves off completely to suggestions of a wider "rulership" from some sort of elite group. Why wouldn't there be one?

Google Bilderberg Group for some interesting speculation.

Google Denver Airport for some even more interesting stuff.

CogitoErgoSometimes · 30/11/2011 07:09

All they mean is that some rich and powerful people are steering the way things go in a selfish manner designed to keep them rich and powerful and ther rest of us meek and subjugated. Meh... I don't feel all that meek and subjugated and, as long as they leave me alone, I don't that much care.

SinicalSal · 30/11/2011 11:18

Well that's entirely rational self interest on their part Cogito, if you put it like that.
And we know the Bilderberg group does exist, even though that was a Conspriracy Theory trope for long enough.

Pakdooik · 30/11/2011 11:24

The people who believe this bollocks are the same crew who believe the moon landings were a hoax, that George W Bush ordered the destruction of the Twin Towers, that Andrew Wakefield was right about vaccination etc. etc. etc.

The trouble is that it's impossible to argue with any of them. All they have to say is "you've been brainwashed" and "the evidence has been tampered with" and thus the cycle continues.

CherylWillBounceBack · 30/11/2011 11:34

Take the blindfold off, skeptics. They've even got to 'Do it like a dude' star Jessie J.

I thought the New World Order was an economics movement? Confused

I thought it meant the rise of the Eastern Nations in world economics?

slug · 30/11/2011 11:50

I thought they were an 80's indy band

AgentZigzag · 30/11/2011 12:01

Just because someone might believe there's a grain of truth in one conspiracy theory Pakdooik, doesn't mean they believe all of them or they're some kind of crackpot.

Thinking that the royal family are all lizards is a world away from thinking there might have been something going on with David Kellys death.

Brushing them all off as bollocks is as bad as believing all of them without question.

SinicalSal · 30/11/2011 12:28

You're thinking of New Order slug.

That's the thing AZ there's a very wide scope. Though maybe it's the same people dessiminating Royal Lizard theories to discredit those who are suspicious of Kelly's death? A cunning double bluff.

AgentZigzag · 30/11/2011 12:51

I've thought the same Sinical, discrediting people just by mentioning David Icke could be a powerful and useful tool.

He is fucking weird though, but people seem to flock to him Confused

SinicalSal · 30/11/2011 13:04

well it's fair to say there is a lot going on in the world that the public are aware of, acknowledging that doesn't make you a crackpot.

SinicalSal · 30/11/2011 13:05

AREN'T aware of I meant!

Ghoulwithadragontattoo · 30/11/2011 13:10
  1. The X Factor is manipulative to the point of brainwashing.
  2. There are cover ups all the time.
Whatmeworry · 30/11/2011 13:11

Thinking that the royal family are all lizards is a world away from thinking there might have been something going on with David Kellys death

Hmm...what sort of lizards :)

Seriously - agree with this - some stuff is clearly crackpot, but some of the other things going on are not conspiracies. I don't know if there is an elite group, but a lot of the financial crap today is driven by banks not wanting to reform/take a hit and having governments in ther pockets.

Pakdooik · 30/11/2011 13:16

Agent and Whatmemory

Perhaps we should invent a bollocks rating. Moon Landing Hoax and GWB and Twin Towers would both be a 10, Andrew Wakefield a 9, David Kelly death conspiracy would be a 7 etc etc etc.

AgentZigzag · 30/11/2011 13:22

When Princess Diana said the royal family are reptiles, she didn't mean they had forked tongues and liked a warm tank Grin

Think Icke took the series in the 80's 'V' a bit literally Grin (it was a good series though)

AgentZigzag · 30/11/2011 13:35

Where would you put the conspiracy that MN is run by a conglomerate of businesses purely as an advertising venture on that scale pakdooik?

(think boden/fruitshoots/greggs Wink)

Whatmeworry · 30/11/2011 13:37

Where would you put the conspiracy that MN is run by a conglomerate of businesses purely as an advertising venture on that scale

And is a vehicle to extend the political agenda of its founders and the shadowy people behind them :o

lesley33 · 30/11/2011 13:37

I thought the royal family were lizards! Especially Prince Philip. You mean it might not be true?

Whatmeworry · 30/11/2011 13:39

Philip is a naval chappy and a Greek, clearly not a lizard but a newt.
