to take DS back to school tomorrow...

DS went to school today absolutely fine.
I got a call at 10 am to go pick him up as he had had diarrhoea.
I brought him home,he seems fine,no more diarrhoea since,he has eaten normally, been running around, even went to football practice tonight.
If he is ok overnight and eats breakfast and has no more diarrhoea,AIBU to send him into school tomorrow ? The teacher said to keep him off 24 hours but as it will practically be that long anyway,Im inclined to take him in...

48 hours here
Hope the others at football had all already had the bug

IneedAbetterNickname · 28/11/2011 23:07

Our school have a 48 hour rule, and wouldn't let him back in school until that 48 hours is up.

WorraLiberty · 28/11/2011 23:09

Our policy is 24hrs after the last symptom..whether that's diarrhoea or vomiting

Smellyanne · 28/11/2011 23:10

so you think he has a bug then? After one runny poo? I genuinely thought it might just be one of those things,he is not unwell at all, surely he would have had more diarrhoea or been sick ?

No 48 hour rule at our upper school

How old is he?

slavetofilofax · 28/11/2011 23:21

Stick to the rule just in case it is a bug. It is unfair on other people who might not fight the bug (if it is one) off so easily.

Unless you have some magic test that you can do to prove it isn't a bug befire tomorrow morning, then you have to keep him home.

You were very selfish and irresponsible for letting him go for football training.

Smellyanne · 28/11/2011 23:33

he is 7 .

" very selfish and irresponsible" ? really Slave ? Hmm

48 hours here too.

It feels unnecessary but 3 or 4 years ago DS's school had to be closed and the whole place professionally cleaned because of a D&V bug that just wouldn't clear up.

Not worth the risk.

I also agree he shouldn't have gone to training.

perfumedlife · 29/11/2011 01:21

May be being a bit dim here ( not unusual sadly) but how do the school know he had diarhhoea?

HerRoyalNotness · 29/11/2011 01:25

If he had a bug, surely he'd be doi g more runny poos throughout the day? See how he goes overnight and send him in if he's fine

Spermysextowel · 29/11/2011 01:33

Yep, selfish is about right. So many kids could go down with it because yours was running around just fine despite some diarhoea syptoms earlier on. So many parents being off work because yours wanted to kick a football around.

hanaka88 · 29/11/2011 01:39

My DS has runny poo all the time. It's never a bug its because he eats anything he finds (slugs, play dough etc)
How do school know he had it?

TroublesomeEx · 29/11/2011 01:41

Eats slugs! God that's gross! Grin

Nothing more to offer.

hanaka88 · 29/11/2011 01:41

(well it isn't 'never a bug' but the doctors said if it is it will be there alongside other symptoms such as temperature, vomiting, tiredness or cramps and aches in his tummy)

hanaka88 · 29/11/2011 01:42

Yea folk girl but he is autistic and doesn't understand it's 'gross'.

TroublesomeEx · 29/11/2011 01:44

Oh right. Does he seem to enjoy them? It's a shame he doesn't fancy eating something a bit more palatable. Sad

TroublesomeEx · 29/11/2011 01:45

Hope that doesn't sound flippant. If it does, I'm sorry and I didn't mean it to. Smile

hanaka88 · 29/11/2011 01:49

When did I say that's all he eats? He just enjoys a bit of playdough if he sees any thats all. But my point was the runs are sometimes a way of just getting something nasty out quickly. Not always a bug.

TroublesomeEx · 29/11/2011 02:00

I didn't think for a moment that it's all he eats. Please don't let this turn into something, I was being a bit light hearted. That's all.

I used to eat rubbers and paper when I was younger. No idea why, but I had awful stomach cramps as a result and at one point thought I was dying. Hmm

You're right tough, one incident of the runs can be just that. But without a possible alternative explanation like your son has, the school have to err on the side of caution. It is annoying though.

TroublesomeEx · 29/11/2011 02:01

though not tough.

hanaka88 · 29/11/2011 02:08

I'm not turning it into anything don't worry Smile I was just making sure people didn't think I served up slugs and playdough for lunch.
