To think that pushchairs should have same priority as wheelchairs on buses?

SparklyC · 28/11/2011 14:31

Today - packed bus, I was in the pushchair bit on the bus, another mum got on with a buggy loaded with shopping. People sat in space that could have held another buggy in it didn't get up so both our pushchairs had to go in one space and my pushchair is one of those big all-terrain things! Then bus driver stopped bus for wheelchair user and asked us if either of us could fold down our pushchairs/move? Well, first of all, there wouldn't have been any room for us to sit down with our babies and also have our shopping on our knee or even stored on luggage shelf once pushchairs were on. Also the bus service I travel on has a bus every 4 minutes in the daytime. So the bus driver (who obviously has to be sen to be doing the right thing) got off the bus to tell the wheelchair user that the bus was full, and would he mind waiting for the next one, which he didn't anyway. What does everyone else think? Should we mums with our pushchairs be given the same priority as wheelchairs? Should bus drivers ask other passengers to move so that we can get on, instead of (sometimes) feeling like we are an annoyance and an obstacle to them?

Id be happy with that we would all know where we stand then.

TheHumancatapult · 07/03/2012 19:50

bar*

NotaStatistic · 07/03/2012 19:51

You cant leave a child unattended thats neglect

TheHumancatapult · 07/03/2012 19:51

yes your be able to fold your buggy and wheelchair users woud be unable to go out .

As it stands we all know where we tand or where we sit and thats spelt out on buses as Wheelchair spaces

nillsnoo · 07/03/2012 19:51

Notastatistic - Do you just not get the fact that these spaces were put on buses for WHEELCHAIRS, not for buggys. If it were not for wheelchairs you would NEVER have that space on the bus. How about just being happy that that space is sometimes available for you to use so you can avoid the inconvinience, and that it all it is, of folding the buggy.

And as for the disabled person shoudl move? WHy don't you bloody move so you do not need to get a bus? It is alot cheaper for you to move, as you will not have to pay many thousands to get a house adapted! And of course by moving you are automatically close to everything aren't you, so never need to get a bus?

What the hell goes on in your head?

TheHumancatapult · 07/03/2012 19:52

well i suggest you find a way to mange it then becuase you have working legs so have options

TheHumancatapult · 07/03/2012 19:53

pst I dont Stand anywhereWink

dottyspotty2 · 07/03/2012 19:53

Oh piss off its not neglect for 5 or 10 minutes I've raised 3 they didn't have 100% attention all the time they have grown up well rounded individuals including my disabled DS

NotaStatistic · 07/03/2012 19:54

You could still go out just not on the free bus. I know the space is for wheelchairs I can read I just dont think the driver should be able to kick people off a BUSY bus for a wheelchair.

BTW I am moving closer see I use my head.

dottyspotty2 · 07/03/2012 19:55

She doesn't have a buspass she pays

NotaStatistic · 07/03/2012 19:55

It is neglect if you leave them and they choke or hurt themselves plus it takes me longer then ten minutes to get up and down the stairs and its not a direct route.

crashdoll · 07/03/2012 19:55

"some of you wheelchair users still have legs they just dont work different to having no legs."

Yeah, you jealous cows. Some people don't have legs!!!

TheHumancatapult · 07/03/2012 19:55

well then what you complain about you obviously can afford to move so do it ,

Hello it is not a free bus I pay for a ticket .Your child does not .

Oh i did wonder if you coud read since you seem determined to ignore it

NotaStatistic · 07/03/2012 19:56

Good for her she could get one if shes in a wheelchair.

nillsnoo · 07/03/2012 19:56

But people dont have to be kicked of Notastatic - they can fold there buggy simple. There will always be someone on the bus who will give up a seat for a young child, or someone who will ensure they do. If the buggy is too big then the person shoudl have thought about that when buying it. If you are going to need to get a bus then you need to select your buggy accordingly.

TheHumancatapult · 07/03/2012 19:57

crash im grinning that she is jealours of the fact I have legs , and even more guess what i can wear high heels and need not worry about falling over in them to Grin

NotaStatistic · 07/03/2012 19:57

I dont ignore the wheelchair first rule I just dont like it. Houses closer to centre arent more expensive its not costing me anything more to move.

dottyspotty2 · 07/03/2012 19:58

She's already explained SHE CAN'T GET ONE learn to read

NotaStatistic · 07/03/2012 19:59

Not always sometimes a folded buggy with a child on a busy bus takes up just as much space.

TheHumancatapult · 07/03/2012 19:59

if in a wheelchair , hmm wonders what this lump of metal im sitting on is
.same for train in fact no one gets free train travel .FFs i pay for ticket on a train and i dont even get a seat same on bus I dont even cause wear and tear on there seat cushions

dottyspotty2 · 07/03/2012 20:00

Do you need a specially adapted house for your precious child no thought not THC and people like her do not a case of just move

TheHumancatapult · 07/03/2012 20:00

well you dont live where i do nearer to town costs more and no i cant move town

SootySweepandSue · 07/03/2012 20:00

I know where you are coming from OP. My buggy takes up more space when folded than upright as it can't be stood upright without falling. It's a small city buggy too. Most buses I get on don't have a storage area per ce. I have never been able to hold DD whilst I take the buggy up or down and there is no way I'd let a random from a London bus hold her (probably a load of school kids for starters). I think there should be separate areas for buggies. The law is outdated. Of course wheelchairs come first though.

NotaStatistic · 07/03/2012 20:01

Either way my point here has got completly lost and re-interpreted so im just leaving you miserable sods to it.

Agree to Disagree.
