To think that pushchairs should have same priority as wheelchairs on buses?

Today - packed bus, I was in the pushchair bit on the bus, another mum got on with a buggy loaded with shopping. People sat in space that could have held another buggy in it didn't get up so both our pushchairs had to go in one space and my pushchair is one of those big all-terrain things! Then bus driver stopped bus for wheelchair user and asked us if either of us could fold down our pushchairs/move? Well, first of all, there wouldn't have been any room for us to sit down with our babies and also have our shopping on our knee or even stored on luggage shelf once pushchairs were on. Also the bus service I travel on has a bus every 4 minutes in the daytime. So the bus driver (who obviously has to be sen to be doing the right thing) got off the bus to tell the wheelchair user that the bus was full, and would he mind waiting for the next one, which he didn't anyway. What does everyone else think? Should we mums with our pushchairs be given the same priority as wheelchairs? Should bus drivers ask other passengers to move so that we can get on, instead of (sometimes) feeling like we are an annoyance and an obstacle to them?

good for you. I agree with you but dont forget you cant make anyone move for you.

TheHumancatapult · 07/03/2012 19:42

i do think people may object to 100KG plus of machine blocking up places

TheHumancatapult · 07/03/2012 19:43

actually pretty much you see me hurting towards you , your going to move if have any sense and infact i can ,the law says I can

NotaStatistic · 07/03/2012 19:44

I live at the top of 50 stairs at the top of a hill and my buggy suprisingly has wheels and a doors with four stairs to get up and I cant take out DS and walk up with him and the buggy.

TheHumancatapult · 07/03/2012 19:44

see this little thing is law The Disability Discrimination Act

amothersplaceisinthewrong · 07/03/2012 19:45

OF course puschchairs should not be given the same priority as wheelchairs. What a daft question. Wheelchair users have no other option. Swap the all terrain thing (the pushchair equivalent of a Chelsea tractor) for a smaller easily foldable model.

dottyspotty2 · 07/03/2012 19:45

There fucking wheelchair spaces last time I got a bus there was a large notice telling peiple they had to move for disabled people

NotaStatistic · 07/03/2012 19:46

The law does not say you have rights over pavements and i should move becuase you comeing towards me.

TheHumancatapult · 07/03/2012 19:46

right and that makes it like a wheelchair , it can not be tipped it can not be lifted and course a buggy is as wide as a wheelchair

erm why cant you buggy one hand ds in other

crashdoll · 07/03/2012 19:46

Walk down the stairs y'know on your legs that work, not all of us have these you seeeeee!

NotaStatistic · 07/03/2012 19:46

I NEVER said I wouldnt move I move because the law tells me I must I just dont agree with the law.

no becuase i apply common sense, something you seem to be lacking and tend not to run people of the pavement or into people

and were taling buses and they are covered under The Disability Discrimination Act

NotaStatistic · 07/03/2012 19:48

Yes because its totally possible to carry a buggy a 15month old shopping and be pregnant up loads of stairs. Plus some of you wheelchair users still have legs they just dont work different to having no legs.

TheHumancatapult · 07/03/2012 19:48

well its law and if that law goes .Trust me buses would take the space away and put fixed seats back in .

Then no one will be in that space and your going to have to fold your buggy

TheHumancatapult · 07/03/2012 19:50

erm yes I have legs but last time i checked they dont actually do anything bra hang there ,

Not

it is possibile I have done it day in and day out when my younger ones were small
