...to want to eat my food with a spoon? Not just soup, all my food.

Spoons make more sense for most food. I keep wanting to get a spoon instead of bothering with a fork. I often do use a spoon if I'm on my own. I know you're going to tell me this is socially unacceptable, but why?

Risotto, curries, pasta bake, anything with a sauce... the list goes on. I actually just ate a steak pie with a spoon, which is a new lowhigh. I'm calling it sensible and practical. You might call it lazy and slovenly. Whatevs.

Pick up a spoon and join me. You know you want to.

Yanbu you sexy bitch. I do it all the time, in fact I prefer a teaspoon so it takes ages to eat anything and so portion sizes are controlled.

HecateGoddessOfTheNight · 26/11/2011 20:46

I already do.

Only when I am alone though Grin

thegirlwithnoname · 26/11/2011 20:46

dd hates spoons, and would rather eat everything with a knife and fork, obv that is not possible with soup, where she would prefer to use a teaspoon. She just hates the feeling of a big spoon in her mouth she feels like it is choking her Confused

FannyPriceless · 26/11/2011 20:47

Teaspoon? Genius!

I use spoons for many foods. Bugger convention. Be a cutlery rebel.

thegirlwithnoname · 26/11/2011 20:51

The mother of dd's best friend was absoloutely horrified over the teaspoon. DD's friend's mum is a anorexia counsellor and apparently teaspoons are a very 'aneroxic thing' Shock

hiddenhome · 26/11/2011 20:53

Try chopsticks. You'll never overeat again Grin

FannyPriceless · 26/11/2011 20:53

Glad to know I'm not the only one.

So what are the boundaries with this habit? Should I assume Sunday lunch at the in-laws is a no-no?

The counsellor can have a photo of my arse if she needs to bust that myth.

thegirlwithnoname · 26/11/2011 21:06

Grin alpine.
To be honest she had a 'thing' about spoons from day dot of solids, she also had a thing about hating pastry!
I have never worried about her dislike of either spoons or pastry, and I'm not starting now.

LalasMama · 26/11/2011 21:12

My DP eats EVERYTHING with a spoon. Drives me fecking bonkers. But each to their own :)

MumblingAndBloodyRagDoll · 26/11/2011 21:45

YABU. I have a general problem with spoons. They're lazy. Pet hate is seeing adults in coffee shops spooning up the froth from their drinks. Angry

Just fucking drink it will you!?? What are you? TEN???

And don't get me started on those who do it with a STIRRER! !!!!! !!!!! !!!!!

lovecat · 26/11/2011 21:51

Are you my DH, OP? He uses a spoon for everything, even fish and chips - drives me mental!

I love this idea, and eat my food with a spoon, like curries and chillies and stews. However my DH is mental, he cant cope with a spoon and will eat stew with a knife and fork. i have never known him to eat any savory food with a spoon. Its a knife and fork or it doenst get eaten! i think he's too straight laced and enjoy 'parading' my spoon around for all and sundry to see.... He is mortified ... Obviously!

RomanChristingle · 27/11/2011 00:40

YANBU. We got take away curry this evening and I got out a spoon and a fork but I dropped my fork - I was about to get another one when I thought fuck it I'll just use a spoon and it was fine. Forks are unnecessary washing up from now on.

wildfig · 27/11/2011 00:48

Me too. I like food to be in bowls as well. Let the Freuding commence, I do not care.

MrsDistinctlyMintyMonetarism · 27/11/2011 00:54

I love spoons too! Grin

But I hate soup. Hmm

itchywitch · 27/11/2011 03:41

I have Asian housemates/friends who use a spoon and a fork to eat everything - they find it easier then using a knife. I think it makes sense but its hard to break the habit of reaching for a fork and a knife.
