Why would you? Just why?

I expect quite a few people on the "bath towels" thread do....-the ones who have a wash going up to 7 times a day maybe. Fills the day I suppose, all that washing and ironing!

Even my crazy Mother never ironed pants and sheets.

DesperatelySeekingPomBears · 25/11/2011 16:26

My nan used to iron pants and socks, god bless her soul. Even at the age of 6 I questioned the logic of ironing something that went underneath clothing but she always insisted that we'd thank her if we got hit by a bus Hmm

Viagrafalls · 25/11/2011 16:26

I iron my sheets when I get a chance because they go back in the drawer much more easily. Since I had a baby 3 months ago I couldn't give a toss about housework anymore I dont really get much of a chance anymore and i like the way they go back on the bed, all crisp etc

MrsChristmasDB · 25/11/2011 16:26

Now, I LOVE ironing, but I don't iron sheets and pants. Or knickers/thongs/flannels/tea towels/pillow cases etc...

AFuckingFestiveKnackeredWoman · 25/11/2011 16:27

My step mum irons pants, She not bonkers though honest.

She also has a sock spreadsheet where socks that are missing their partners get catalogued.

LalasMama · 25/11/2011 16:28

My MIL does! She babysat my DS overnight at my house the other night. Came home to find my knicker drawer rearranged and my knickers ironed Confused

Shes lovely though :)

Teeb · 25/11/2011 16:29

Oh I think I'm Miss '7 times a day' and do indeed iron my pillowcases and duvet cover, one of lifes simple pleasures to get into a clean crisp bed I think.

stubbornhubby · 25/11/2011 16:30

mmmmm ironed pants....

JinxAndFluff · 25/11/2011 16:30

My Mum and my exMIL on the knickers issue....I LOVE ironed sheets and do occasionally indulge in an ironing service just for that wonderful luxury but could never tackle them myself...I can barely put a duvet cover on by myself FFS...

PeppermintPasty · 25/11/2011 16:31

She IS bonkers!! Wow, a sock spreadsheet. What happens to the ones that are never paired up again?!

munkeychops · 25/11/2011 16:32

Afucking festive - you are kidding right?! A spreadsheet for missing socks?! That is hilarious!!!

It must be a generational thing then as my nan ironed pants too. If I got hit by a bus, the last thing I would be thinking about is how crumpled the fabric of my knickers was... Just think, bothersome blood from the collision could stain your lovely ironed underwear too, oh the trauma!

That was for AFFKWoman btw

munkeychops · 25/11/2011 16:33

... I am possibly only jealous, as if I tried to iron a sheet it would take me three hours and I would end up getting trapped inside it

valiumredhead · 25/11/2011 16:34

Why would anyone iron anything?

Pascha · 25/11/2011 16:34

I love a crisp ironed flat sheet. Very satisfying.

IslaValargeone · 25/11/2011 16:34

I do sheets Blush but not pants. How can you get into a crinkly bed?

AFuckingFestiveKnackeredWoman · 25/11/2011 16:34

They go into a box on top of the dryer and if they haven't been pared up with in 1 month they go into a bag in the airing cupboard where they get another month or so to find their partner, after that she chucks them away.

No your right she is bonkers...

oldraver · 25/11/2011 16:35

Pants.. never ever. My sheets, I iron the top bit as they are sort of embroidered and they crinkle up so ironing that bit flatterns it out. I dont iron down the bottom or the bottom sheet

Backtobedlam · 25/11/2011 16:36

My mil and grandma...I think it's an older generation thing. Me and my friends are much more 'easy life' brigade

mrsravelstein · 25/11/2011 16:37

i don't iron pants or bottom sheets, but i do iron duvet covers and pillow cases or they look horrible

FellatioNelson · 25/11/2011 16:39

Sheets yes (although I don't do them personally, I send them out, but not fitted based sheets) but pants, towels and teatowels no never. That is for losers and weirdos.

BalloonSlayer · 25/11/2011 16:47

Is anyone else feeling sorry for the poor socks who are moved to the bag in the airing cupboard to await their fate?

Sad

It's not their fault. < sniff >

Mine stay in a cardboard box in the cupboard and may very well remain there forever. Long-standing residents include one ballet sock of DDs (she gave up ballet 3 years ago). All are welcome. They have a good, happy retirement with me. Every now and then I shift a sofa and - lo! - find a sock which no longer fits and ecstatically reunite it with its lonely partner.

vixsatis · 25/11/2011 16:49

My mother. She also irons dusters and tea towels.

I love ironed sheets; but not enough to iron them myself

IslaValargeone · 25/11/2011 16:49

I'm guessing this wouldn't be the right thread to ask if anyone recommends those big ironing press thingies to make doing sheets easier? :o

IslaValargeone · 25/11/2011 16:50

I love it when I manage to reunite a sock pair after months of languishing in the twighlight zone that is the airing cupboard.
