to only wash bath towels once a month?

or less Blush

DH is in charge of washing his own towel and I am sure he never puts it in the wash more often than once every 2 or 3 months...

DS's goes in about once every 2 months (but it barely touches him as he likes to run around naked pretending to be a train driver straight after his bath, which dries him quite effectively).

I usually wash mine about every month but have realised that I haven't washed it since coming home from hospital with DD, who is now 5 weeks...in my defence, there is one HECK of a lot of other washing to do and it just won't ever fit in the machine....

We do wash out clothes (!) and sheets once a week. And I do the kitchen hand towel every week or two - it gets quite grubby and also fits in the machine with another wash easily.

But are we grim and disgusting when it comes to bath towels? How often do normal people wash bath towels?

We all use the same towels .we are clearly the Clampits of MN

I have no towel washing system

schroeder · 25/11/2011 21:30

dishwashers are supposed to be better for the enviroment than washing up though.

Realisticalusualsuspect · 25/11/2011 21:38

Silver66, hope you are ok

All this competitive housewifeing is bollocks really

ferfuxake · 25/11/2011 21:38

I stopped reading after a couple of pages of 'ooo, I wash mine twice a week'. how dirty can you really all be? mine gets washed about once a month, and as for DH I really couldn't say, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was sometimes 2 or 3 months between washes. I'm not denying we have low standards, but honestly we don't smell, we're healthy and so are our kids. I think there's a cleanliness obsession about.

KittyFane · 25/11/2011 21:39

Washing machine must be on all the time in some homes.
And some people have a lot of time on their hands.

Jacaqueen · 25/11/2011 21:42

Those of you who don't have a hand towel in the kitchen, what do you dry your hands on?

In the kitchen I have microfibre cloths which I use to wipe up. Tea towels that I use to dry pots and mop up. Both of these get changed a few times a day. Then I have a hand towel to dry my hands after I wash them.

Get0rf · 25/11/2011 21:44

Sorry about your mum silver Sad

You are right, the whole thread is bollocks really, but is just a bit of idle chat about towels.

rhondajean · 25/11/2011 21:45

Hey you lot?

Remember when you were at school, there was always a smelly kid in the class?

Guess what happened to them all!!

Nah seriously, its rank, and as for time, in machine, machine on, in summer dries fast hung out, in winter dries fast on radiator. No time at all really.

Im loathe to ask how many times you use facecloths/flannels/whatever you choose to call them before you wash them?

Also, you are supposed to dry all your nooks and crannies thoroughly yknow, so you dont end up with fungal infections!

Spermysextowel · 25/11/2011 21:45

I wipe my hands down my trousers.

ouryve · 25/11/2011 21:45

I use a tea towel for dishes once (I leave most things to air dry), then it's relegated to hands and spills, since I'm often rinsing my hands while cooking and wiping up splashes from rinsed veg etc. I get through a couple a day.

Plus, the bathroom is the other side of the back lobby from the kitchen and I usually have a bath towel or two airing in the dining room because there's no space for them all in the bathroom. An extra towel in the kitchen, just for hands, seems superfluous, really.

Silver66 · 25/11/2011 21:46

i am also slightly confused as to how I got on this thread BUT it caught my eye - oh shit, deep down I am a bit obsessed with clean sheets and towels... i must be... crap..... Grin

MissBeehiving · 25/11/2011 21:46

Grin These threads always end up with GetOrf's sheets.

Towels should be changed AT least weekly

Realisticalusualsuspect · 25/11/2011 21:47

I've had 3 towels drying on my line for a week Grin

Jacaqueen · 25/11/2011 21:47

Hacks rhondajean.

I was always told if I didn't dry myself properly I would get hacks.

Realisticalusualsuspect · 25/11/2011 21:48

Fuck knows how many towels are festering in my DSs bedroom

rhondajean · 25/11/2011 21:49

Silver, sorry to hear about your mum btw, hope she responds well to treatment.

Im loving this - I am usually the mankiest out of all my friends, Im enjoying being the clean one (or one of them!)

Spermysextowel · 25/11/2011 21:51

What's a hack? I don't want hacks in my 'region'.

Silver66 · 25/11/2011 21:54

I am exhausted by the thought of wet, clean or soggy towels, nightmare to get dry in the winter.

I shall retire to consider the matter further, and find a solution.

If I do my friends, you shall see me on the Apprentice .....and I might end up very rich Ha ha..................................

nite then xxxxx

rhondajean · 25/11/2011 21:56

I had a vision there of a massive kitchen roll and you tear a sheet off after every bath...
