to only wash bath towels once a month?

or less Blush

DH is in charge of washing his own towel and I am sure he never puts it in the wash more often than once every 2 or 3 months...

DS's goes in about once every 2 months (but it barely touches him as he likes to run around naked pretending to be a train driver straight after his bath, which dries him quite effectively).

I usually wash mine about every month but have realised that I haven't washed it since coming home from hospital with DD, who is now 5 weeks...in my defence, there is one HECK of a lot of other washing to do and it just won't ever fit in the machine....

We do wash out clothes (!) and sheets once a week. And I do the kitchen hand towel every week or two - it gets quite grubby and also fits in the machine with another wash easily.

But are we grim and disgusting when it comes to bath towels? How often do normal people wash bath towels?

i smoke
i have animals in the house - indeed sleeping on beds
i wash my bath towels when they smell

forgive me lord

jchocchip · 25/11/2011 20:59

no way would I have a set of towels the same colour for the whole family. Cross infection, even after washing.

cantspel · 25/11/2011 20:59

We just use any towel that is hanging in the bathroom. We have never had any cross infections nor are we germ infested or smelly

WhereMyMilk · 25/11/2011 21:00

Scutters! :o

Get0rf · 25/11/2011 21:01

I don't want to wear pants in bed. I don't think it's a crime to change sheets, and it doesn't cost an awful lot.

I think some people have been a bit harsh to the OP - bless her she had a baby 5 weeks ago, I don't blame her for not being arsed.

I doubt she smells - I don't care anyway, I just like the smell of clean sheets and towels. I am just a bit Monica Gellerish.

LoveInAColdClimate · 25/11/2011 21:03

Hang on, so some people don't have individual towels for each family member but just use whatever towel comes to hand?

cantspel · 25/11/2011 21:05

I dont see why even if you dont wear pants in bed that you would need to change your beding every day. Unless you have a problem with bum wiping, a weak pelvic floor or you dont have a sex towel.

BendyBob · 25/11/2011 21:05

Sorry I think it's a bit grim. Dirty towels can pass around nasty things like impetigo.

cantspel · 25/11/2011 21:06

lovein what is so gross about towel sharing?

Cantspel - frankly, I don't want to dry my face with the towel DH used earlier to dry his arse, even if both body parts have just been showered! The idea of towel sharing really does make me cringe. I change hand towels as soon as guests leave as well in case they are Improperly Thorough Handwashers... Just really, really hate the idea.

Get0rf · 25/11/2011 21:10

Surely when you get out the bath you dry yourself thoroughly i.e wipe your arse crack dry? I wouldn't want to dry my face with someone else's used arse crack towel, no matter how much I love 'em.

south345 · 25/11/2011 21:10

Eww, I wash mine every couple of days at least (usually more) i have a shower morning and night and so use 2 towels a day and go through about 3 tea towels a day.

Get0rf · 25/11/2011 21:10

x posts loveinacoldclimate Grin

Now we get to the crux of the matter - arse crack deposits.

smartyparts · 25/11/2011 21:12

I am amazed at some people on here!

Bedding at least 1x per week, much more in summer

Towels every 2 days

Tea towels every day (& we have a dishwasher!)

suebfg · 25/11/2011 21:16

You shouldn't even need to dry most things that come out of a dishwasher

LoveInAColdClimate · 25/11/2011 21:17

Yes, basically it all boils down to arses, doesn't it?

I dry my face on my bath towel because I wash my face in the shower and dry it along with the rest of me. Is this weird? I am reluctant to dry my face on the hand towel because of fear that others may not have washed their hands properly before wiping them on the hand towel - at least when it's my bath towel I know I'm capable of washing my whole body properly Grin.

cantspel · 25/11/2011 21:18

when we get out the shower we dont tend to vigously scrub our arse cracks or any other bits with the towels. The warm towel is wrapped around the body to soak up the moisture.

Sonnet · 25/11/2011 21:18

Tea towels - 3 times per week
Hand towels - every other day
Bath towels - twice weekly
bedding - weekly
Pj's - 3 to 4 times per week
easy!!

smartyparts · 25/11/2011 21:18

We don't dry anything from the dishwasher.

Just tea towels get used to handle stuff/thrown over shoulder when cooking/wiping up etc

Methe · 25/11/2011 21:19

Aren't tea towels for wiping up spillages and shit*?

*Not literal shit

Get0rf · 25/11/2011 21:20

I am the same - dry my face and body with a bath towel, not the hand towel. I use a clean towel from the cupbiard for my hair.

Get0rf · 25/11/2011 21:21

I don't have a dishwasher

The dishes just get left to drain.

Yes our tea towels are just for wiping shit up and getting hot dishes out of the oven, hence they get dirty.
