Worst children's film ever.

Taking the children to see all and sundry, along with her ne'er do well mate with the funny accent.

Look into Julie Andrews eyes and see the axis of evil.

Fly a kite off.

Well, I LOVE Mary Poppins and The Sound of Music!

ThePsychicSatsuma · 22/11/2011 21:29

bah!!!
MAry poppins is beloved. Adorable. wonderful. christmas.

Animation · 22/11/2011 21:41

Well I LOVE The Sound of Music - but Mary Poppins creeps me out afraid.

Animation · 22/11/2011 21:41

Btw - this has got to be the thread of the week!!

ThePathanKhansWitch · 22/11/2011 22:28

She really doesn't like children. I think she practises mind control techniques in the nursery at night. "Look into my eyes, not around the eyes, but in the eyes" kind of thing. Defo a "Vilage Nanny, for Village People".

My kinda Nanny really.

PinkFondantFancy · 22/11/2011 22:55

Mary Poppins is educational too-I knew exactly what a run on the bank was around the Northern Rock time, as I'd learned about it aged about 7 from watching MP on repeat!! Grin

PMSL at the MP AIBU by the way...

LadyBeagleEyes · 22/11/2011 23:00

I'm still trying to get over the fact that GetOrf has never seen The Sound of Music.
As for Mathew, I didn't know he'd died either but I also didn't recognise him from 'The Three Lives of Thomasina which is the first movie I remember in my life and the one where I cried and cried.
Thankyou shouldnotbehere.Grin

Ja9 · 23/11/2011 11:27

Comical moment in our house last christmas when 3 yo dd was watching sound of music for the first time. "she sounds like mary poppins..." Grin

MarthasHarbour · 23/11/2011 11:35

Thanks pinkfondant Wink though i suspect any response to the AIBU on here would be to 'leave the fucker' Grin

HarriedWithChildren · 23/11/2011 12:01

I'd never seen it until a few weeks ago when I watched about 30min with my 3DS. I thought it terrible in every way and was quite disappointed having hoped to discover a great classic like Chitty chitty bang bang. As Mary and Bert sauntered through the park with penguins or whatever, DS1, 5, asked "where are the children?". Good point I thought. We're back to Chitty.

Woe betide anyone who criticises the SOM though. Anyone see Bedknobs and Broomsticks lately? Is that worth watching?

FleetwoodandFairycakes · 23/11/2011 13:42

Bedknobs and Broomsticks is amazing Harried! I watched it not that long ago (without any children Blush ). I also agree that SOM is one of the best films ever. It has absolutely nothing to do with the fact that Christopher Plummer is devastatingly handsome and I want to be Maria. Nothing at all.

I also heart Mary Poppins so I think YABU. I am off to remind myself I am an adult now and do something like unload the dishwasher.

Dozer · 23/11/2011 17:57

Sacrilege! Was Pride and Prejudice assassination not enough?!

Supercalafragilisticexpialidocious.

No doubt the MN spelling police will correct me!

I am biased, am married to George Banks.

Dozer · 23/11/2011 17:58

And live in a street lined with cherry trees.

Dozer · 23/11/2011 17:58

GetOrf should not be ALLOWED to watch SOM!

FleetwoodandFairycakes · 23/11/2011 18:16

See Dozer I am married to Captain Von Trapp. Grin

Get0rf · 23/11/2011 19:03

lol at 'getorf shouldn't be ALLOWED to watch SOM' Grin

It is precisely because she is SInister personified that makes Mary Poppins so brilliant.

ExquisiteCake · 23/11/2011 19:14

DVD has a terrible accent in Mary Popps though. Love the film though, especially the song about the women's liberation!

fridakahlo · 23/11/2011 20:05

I have one word for you all on the subject of creepy freaky kids programs:
Moomins (shudder!)

fridakahlo · 23/11/2011 20:05

And where do I find the pride and prejudice thread?

OP posts:
Get0rf · 23/11/2011 20:12

Totally agree re Moomins, frida Grin

What the hell were they about, the freaky finnish hippos.

FleetwoodandFairycakes · 23/11/2011 20:28

Get0rf. Oh god. How could you? I heart Colin Firth (anyone see the trend in my penchant for "cold and stuck up their own arses initially but passionate and wonderful once you get to know them (not to mention devilishly handsome)" men?)

OurPlanetNeptune · 23/11/2011 20:31

Get0rf I agree whole heartedly with you. When I first watched it I had reoccurring nightmares about Mary Poppins stealing me away from my home and refusing to let me go back.... have ever been able to watch since childhood.

OurPlanetNeptune · 23/11/2011 20:31
