Times are hard. Needs must. My dog ate the Christmas cake.

AIBU to cut off the bits that have been in direct contact with his mouth and use the rest?

He was very neat. He ate one side, so it kind of looks the side of a 50p piece IYSWIM. He only ate about an 8th of the volume of the cake. How wasteful it would be to ditch the rest!

However, I've been told this may be skanky and gross.

BTW, my poor dog has been in the vets on a drip for 24 hours due to this little escapade. But he's fine now we hope.

Please tell me you aren't an EHO seriously Grin

ToothbrushThief · 21/11/2011 20:44
Grin

but yuk

bytheMoonlight · 21/11/2011 20:44

Shit breath all over the cake?

No thanks

Bearcat · 21/11/2011 20:46

Bet you wouldn't touch the cake OP.
I wouldn't, start again and enjoy it!

ChippingInNeedsSleep · 21/11/2011 20:48

EHO

MissPenteuth · 21/11/2011 20:49

If you're confident that the remains (assuming you're slicing off the bits that his mouth might have touched) are safe to eat, then fair enough. If you were giving it to a school bake sale or something I'd say otherwise, but I'm assuming it's just for your family. You know your pup, hun.

KatAndKit · 21/11/2011 20:49

Can you imagine eating the christmas cake while seeing the dog lick his arse and bollocks at the same time? That would be enough to put me off.

ObviouslyOblivious · 21/11/2011 20:52

Don't worry KatandKit - he's neutered :)

Very nice MissPenteuth, a tribute to Huns everywhere.

I'd trim around the chewed bits and cover with icing to hide any rough edges but then I don't eat Christmas cake so wouldn't have to think about the dog chowing down on all manner of shit and dead things

ObviouslyOblivious · 21/11/2011 20:58

I'm afraid I really am an EHO. I reckon 95% of my colleagues would eat it too. We just do a quick risk assessment you see.

makachu · 21/11/2011 21:01

Bleugh bacteria multiplies. There will be dog bum germs on all the cake by now, not just the bits he touched. Maybe if you put enough extra alcohol in it will kill the dog bum germs but there's no way I'd eat it. Dog bum cake.

ObviouslyOblivious · 21/11/2011 21:05

We did cut off the eaten bits straight away. FGS, we're not animals! Now we just have to decide whether to bin the rest.

Anyone suggested pouring alcohol over and ignite like you would with a pud?

stealthsquiggle · 21/11/2011 21:16

At least he left some - my parents' cats ate the whole Christmas cake between the three of them one year. Evidently raisins are not poisonous to cats as they had no ill effects other than being in deep disgrace.

ChickensHaveNoEyebrows · 21/11/2011 21:19

I watched my dog eat his own weight in chicken shit today. There is no way I'm eating anything his snout has been around.

Blatherskite · 21/11/2011 21:49

Where are you an EHO Op?

The bollock licking! The other dogs bum sniffing! The shit eating! All slattered all over your cake by flying slobber droplets as his tongue flicked over the top of the cake - even though he only ate one side. Maybe even ricochet off the wall that he pushed the cake against. The vaporised bugs in his breath!

SoVeryVeryTired · 21/11/2011 22:10

Garn. Dogs lick human faces all the time and we mainly wriggle, giggle and squeal, rather than die of dog-poo-germs. Go for it.

ChaosTrulyReigns · 21/11/2011 22:15

Have you properly documented your quick risk assessment? Hmm?

Can you upload a photo of this globular chewed cake? Remember to stage your photo carefully.

Blatherskite · 21/11/2011 22:18

You don't generally leave the germs to grow for 4 weeks though I hope!

With all that yummy sugar to grow on....

ObviouslyOblivious · 21/11/2011 22:19

Chaos, I don't have to document it as I have less than 5 employees Grin
