So dont then.

purplepidjin · 20/11/2011 21:09

YABU.

Overweight = health problems.

FairhairedandFrustrated · 20/11/2011 21:10

No-one is forcing you. Hmm

NinkyNonker · 20/11/2011 21:11

Depends...how big are you?

OhDoAdmitMrsDeVere · 20/11/2011 21:12

You are not a girl though are you?

Unless you are up very late on a school night.

If you dont want to lose wieght, dont.

I agree that there is far too much pressure on women to be thin. Not just thin, thin with huge breasts. Thin with huge breasts and an all year round tan, long thick hair and perfect, white teeth.

We are even supposed to be worried about the softness of our underarms ffs.

BabyDubsEverywhere · 20/11/2011 21:13

If I could wave a magic wand and you could carry on exactly he same lifestyle, exercise regime and eating patterns, BUT BE SLIM, but you take my magic wand offer??

TrickyBiscuits · 20/11/2011 21:14

Well, you're either happy with yourself, or your not...make your mind up Hmm

AliGrylls · 20/11/2011 21:15

Depends on whether you are overweight or big. If you are big then YANBU, if you are overweight then YABU.

MenopausalHaze · 20/11/2011 21:15

Who's piling the pressure on you? If you were that happy about yourself no amount of skinny slebs would make you think otherwise.

Good luck with your thread.

hoolabombshell · 20/11/2011 21:26

But reality "slebs" usually don't have much else to offer than their bodies and good looks, which is probably why they are so obsessed with them.

Surely as an intelligent adult you don't simply want to copy them just because you feel fat, do you? Well?

foreverondiet · 20/11/2011 22:11

If big = overweight then YANBU

If big = obese and you have kids then you are being very selfish as you are putting your health at stake.

My boss kept on saying he was happy being overweight now he is suffering from chronic health probs.

AKMD · 20/11/2011 22:15

So don't lose weight Confused Just don't complain and sue McDs when you get the health problems that go with being long-term overweight.

Most celebs don't look particularly healthy to me BTW.

bibbitybobbitybloodyaxe · 20/11/2011 22:15

Well, it depends on what you mean by "big girl". Anything more than about 2 stone overweight and you are tempting fate with future health problems in much the same way as a smoker or heavy drinker.

Ariana86 · 21/11/2011 01:25

I'm 3st7lb overweight - obese - & i HATE it.

Luckily i have an hourglass figure so it's not immediately obvious how fat i am; also i'm careful in choosing outfits.
I got fat through binge-eating due to emotional problems, taking 3 medications with the side effect of weight gain, & 6 months of illness with no exercise.
It's harder to keep clean as a fat person, i get sweaty & breathless quickly, have sore knees & feet, my thighs rub, & i can't wear the fashions i like.
Why would anyone choose to stay 'big'??
I've just started gym training (weights burn fat); & i now swap the fattening foods for lots of fruit, veg, fish, new potatoes, eggs, ryvita, beans, almonds & skimmed milk.
I'm enjoying the healthy food - & my goal is to be ten stone & size 12-14. Each to their own..but i do NOT want to remain a 'big girl'!

ShengdanRoad · 21/11/2011 02:46

I disagree that there's a lot of pressure on women to be thin. If this was the case, there would be more thin people and fewer overweight people. There is a huge amount of "fat apologism" that goes on, such as trotting out the lines about the average British woman being a size 16, men like "something to grab hold of" (boak), large women are "real women".

If you are happy with your weight and are healthy, stay as you are. If you're unhappy and unhealthy, lose a bit.

jasper · 21/11/2011 03:27

Babydubs, I'll take your magic wand

LittleJennyRobyn · 21/11/2011 09:15

You have contradicted yourself in your post.

If you dont want to lose weight then dont...nobody is pressurising you.

If you do feel pressurised then that suggests to me that you are not happy with you weight...if you were genuinly happy, then it wouldn't be an issue..would it??

coffeesleeve · 21/11/2011 14:08

I'm a big girl (well, lady) - 5'2", about 11st 8lbs (ish) and wear a size 14/16. I'm obese by BMI standards.

I also go to the gym 4-5 times a week and do sports (weightlifting) competitively. My resting heart rate and blood pressure are better now than they were when I was 10st and a size 12/14.

Being obese (in BMI terms) doesn't necessarily HAVE to mean you're unhealthy.

OrmIrian · 21/11/2011 14:13

"I disagree that there's a lot of pressure on women to be thin. If this was the case, there would be more thin people and fewer overweight people."

But that is part of the problem. The more disgusted people feel with themselves the more most people seek solace - and a lot of people do that with food. And it's hard not to feel disgusted with yourself if no-one if the public eye is fat (apart from a few token 'the media isn't too blame after all look at X or Y' individuals).

Scholes34 · 21/11/2011 14:22

I'm not fat, but I'm not exactly slim. My DH said yesterday that he'd seen someone he hadn't seen for a few years, that she'd lost weight and looked frail (she's easily in her 60s). So, now I've decided that I won't lose weight, as I'll not look like I did when I was in my 20s, just frail. Feel a lot happier about myself today!

Proudnscary · 21/11/2011 14:28

YABU for using the faintly nauseating phrase 'big girl'.

YABU for watching I'm a Celebrity.

YABU for feeling pressure to to look like a bikini-clad model. Maybe just aim for a healthy BMI as a starting point.

sausagesarenottheonlyfruit · 21/11/2011 14:32

I do believe there is a specific section for media requests.

giveitago · 21/11/2011 14:46

If big means not looking like a celeb then yanbu.

picnicbasketcase · 21/11/2011 14:48

What Sausages said.
