To "do" my hair every day?

Because my friend thinks so...in fact she said "You can't be in a very relaxed relationship with your Dh if you feel you need to look your best ALL the time"

Hmm

I do my hair daily because it's like a large and luxurious hedge otherwise...it has to be tamed and "done" with hairspray etc or it looks awful and I feel like crap...it's not a coiffure or anything....it's just shoulder length with layers and I put it up or straighten it and have it down and it's certainly NOT "for" DH or anyone but myself. She thinks I do it to "impress" DH.

when I don't do it my mood seems to match the mass of mess on my head....anyway..my friend thought that she should point out to me that i am too concerned with looks and that I should go around with no makeup on and not do my hair for a few days....so that I can "be myself" more. AIBU to think that my hair is none of her business? Do you do your hair daily?

YANBU. The only thing I miss about not having babies is the ability to do my hair every day! Now it is shit 6 days out of 7. Sad

RonnieBirtles · 20/11/2011 17:40

YANBU and your friend sounds a bit of a cow.

MumblingAndBloodyRagDoll · 20/11/2011 17:50

She IS a bit bitchy...she's gtten worse over recent years as we'v got older...or maybe its just that I notce more.

She will sometimes tell me howmuch she weighs when she KNOWS she's about 7 pounds lighter than m....she also looks Envy if something good happens to me...she'll never smile..

YANBU.

Time to spend a bit less time around her...

StealthPenguin · 20/11/2011 20:13

YANBU - I wash my hair every other day, and I have dry shampoo and leave-in conditioner for the days that I don't wash it properly. I may just leave it to dry frizzily naturally if I'm just knocking about the house, but if I'm going anywhere I'll at least make the effort to do my make-up and drag some straighteners across my hair. My DP tells me that I don't need make-up, but he's got a track record of overlooking my flaws :o

Familydilemma · 20/11/2011 20:19

Course yanbu. And that's from someone who often doesn't do hair or make up but takes no position on it. I would be upset if someone started commenting on the things I do to make myself feel good. And I like having friends who make an effort-I pretend I'm looking in a mirror Wink. And I'm a mean cake baker and so everyone's happy!

I think your friend has issues, and may be projecting them on to you.

Her remark: "You can't be in a very relaxed relationship with your Dh if you feel you need to look your best ALL the time", and her comments about weight - if she has a DH/DP (or if not, is she looking for one?) - do you think that her comments might be more about her than you?

millmoo · 20/11/2011 21:36

I do my hair every day because when i wake up in the morning i look like john and edwards twin sister Grin

megapixels · 20/11/2011 21:46

Well of course YANBU. There's nothing wrong with wanting to do that everyday if that's what you want. But, if you don't do your hair when your DH is not around (say away on a work trip or something) because you don't feel the need to then, then that is sad. It doesn't look like that though so YANBU and your friend is being a silly busybody.

MrsKwazii · 20/11/2011 21:51

YANBU - and your friend sounds a bit odd. Like those women who tell friends that they've lost enough weight when they are still obviously have a way to go (I've been the woman losing weight - it's a strange situation but it does happen). Just ignore her.

I style my hair every day, wash it every two to three days. It's very fine and looks awful in the mornings. It needs to be pulled back into style everday. As for make-up, I wear mascara as a minimum or you can't see my eyes - my best feature darling Wink

itsalladirtylie · 20/11/2011 22:07

who cares, do what you like with your hair and your appearance generally, express yourself and have fun if you want to.
( I wear lipstick to the gym Blush cuz, I like wearing lipstick)

zest01 · 21/11/2011 18:06

yanbu at all - aibu to be jealous that I don't get time to "do" my hair every day though? I wash, dry and brush it, but would love to staighten and style it every day, but I already get up at 6 and cannot get up any early.

I won't leave the house without make up on however - for me it would feel like going out naked! Shock

Your friend is prob jealous like me!! LOL

You know the advert for beds where the gorilla comes in and drags the girl up and down the bed! Thats how I look each and every morning! And I have short hair. So I have no choice but to do my hair ! And I hate it! It is such a waste of time ! Arghhh
