To think carrying out a full body scrub in a communal shower is a bit disgusting

So I went to the gym today, had a bit of a run then for a swim. The changing rooms for the pool are open plan with about 8 showers. I went for a shower before going into the pool and there was a women in there carrying out an all over body exfoliation, I arrived just in time to witness her paying close attention to her bikini line.

AIBU in thinking this is really an activity that should be saved for your own shower? Or is it acceptable to remove a layer of your skin in a public shower?

At my local pool there are cubicles - many, many cubicles - around the edges of both rooms. Along one wall are lockers, and in the middle are some benches with pegs for bags etc.

Yet, there is always at least one person walking around starkers in the room right by the door.

Why. Just, why?!

I can understand it if there weren't enough cubicles, but there are maybe 30 cubicles in the ladies changing room to about 15 people of both genders in the pool. Accessible changing is also separate.

I think some people just like being naked

YANBU. The communal showers are for a quick freshen up, they're not a spa!

Exfoliation wouldn't bother me. You're washing off sweat, skin cells, loose hair anyway. What's a bit of body scrub?

Our swimming baths has a two shower head communal women's shower area open to the swimming pool.

I have no problem with the idea of exfoliating, I just think at the end of the session when there are 15 women, at least, queuing up to rinse off the chlorine, we shouldn't have to stand around shivering while a couple of women scrub and chat like they have all the time in the world. There are some that when soaping stand back and let us have a quick rinse ... there are these other two who will absolutely not.

yabu some people need to constantly exfoliate. i myself go mad in my shower at the gym shave my legs etc but the showers are cubicles and its nice to have time to do it all without a DD distracting you. ive seen people put their tan on in the changing room and standing there bollock naked while it dries. sometimes its peoples only time and for mothers the only time with a bit of peace!

personally, i think anything other than a quick wash downin a communal shower is a bit out of order, was once in a sauna when woman came in wearing flip flops., proceeded to use a sander type thing on the dry skin on her feet, all oer the floor and then put on her flip flops and walked out - lovely. Each to their own

Shock at the general goings on that I hadn't even realised. Showers at home in future then.

norriscoleforpm · 20/11/2011 20:09

ewww, join a proper gym with individual showers...

giraffesCantDookForApples · 20/11/2011 23:09

ewww at foot sanding

itsalladirtylie · 20/11/2011 23:26

I'd only do intimate personal grooming if there were individual cubicles, I get the impression that quite alot of gym users make the most of the showers there to save on hot water at home
