To think carrying out a full body scrub in a communal shower is a bit disgusting

So I went to the gym today, had a bit of a run then for a swim. The changing rooms for the pool are open plan with about 8 showers. I went for a shower before going into the pool and there was a women in there carrying out an all over body exfoliation, I arrived just in time to witness her paying close attention to her bikini line.

AIBU in thinking this is really an activity that should be saved for your own shower? Or is it acceptable to remove a layer of your skin in a public shower?

I once saw someone come into the shower in her pants, begin showering, remove her pants, soap and rub the gusset of her pants and the proceed to use them as a washcloth. Lovely.

Still doesn't beat the butt naked bloke in the pool at my gym who proceeded to get in the jacuzzi next to me and toss himself off. Now that was definitely wrong.

smartyparts · 19/11/2011 19:59

I am constantly surprised at people's behaviour at the gym.

In our (mixed) steam room I have seen a woman shaving her legs complete with wrist flicking to empty her razor onto the floor/walls, and a bloke shaving his face!

I think I have posted before about the woman who sauntered off to the shower having left her upturned gusset, replete with copious amounts of discharge next to me on a bench!

OMG Viva Shock

StuckForWords · 19/11/2011 20:02

I saw a woman carefully and slowly "cleaning" her clit in a communal shower once. She then proceeded to dry her feet by standing in a cubicle, leaving the door open and bending. I call her the "brown starred kit-kat shuffler" in my head now.

DoMeDon · 19/11/2011 20:03

That made me laugh till I cried SFW - brilliant!

thefurryone · 19/11/2011 20:04

VLB that is definitely worse than exfoliating!

"do people not exfoliate every time they shower then? "

No. I don't have time. I generally exfoliate about once a week.

nailak · 19/11/2011 20:06

i would exfoliate and moisturise every time i shower, as i have problem skin, i didnt realise it wasnt normal to do this.

however i wouldnt bend over in front of people, i would use a towel on my lap.

nomoreheels · 19/11/2011 20:06

I once saw a lady using the wall hairdryer at the gym to blast her fanjo dry...legs akimbo with one foot on the wall.

RandomMess · 19/11/2011 20:07

One of my worst visions was a large elderly ladies (60s 70s???) moisturing herself completely starkers with her foot on the handbasin so the first thing you saw when you walked into the changing room entrance was her fanjo on show.

thefurryone · 19/11/2011 20:08

Flanelle hard to mind your own when someone is quite so blatant Smile

Have never been to a communal shower, but this is probably what I'd expect, they would attract exhibitionists, as well as genuine gym bods. I'm not bothered by other peoples bodies, I have seen all shapes and sizes in the course of my work which completely desensitised me.

Am not a prostitute btw Grin

Oh my God, this thread is brilliant. Grin

OP - YANBU at all.

giraffesCantDookForApples · 19/11/2011 20:27

wips was a thread with a lady on here who washes her body with yesterdays pants everyday

In our showers at pool they are for men and women so no nakedness and in full public view. Often see men with hands down rubbing their bits, yet never ever seen a woman rub her fanjo

giraffesCantDookForApples · 19/11/2011 20:29

Look just be glad she didnt crouch down, reach up and pull out he rmooncup, empty the contents, rinse it and put it back in.

smartyparts · 19/11/2011 20:46

Ah, I remember that yesterday's pants thread. Hasn't to be strangest admission - ever.

BrigadierRevoltingPeasant · 19/11/2011 21:03

There was a lady who used to exfoliate all over at our pool every Sunday (in the shower, obv). I always assumed it was because she wanted to get all the chlorine off, so this might be the reason?

tbh I get kind of antsy about the idea that other people are policing my bodycare when I am in the gym changing rooms. I moisturise after my shower and don't want to get dressed immediately because of soaking in time, so often brush my hair naked or just with a pair of pants on. ffs, it's the women's changing rooms, does it really matter? Confused

BrigadierRevoltingPeasant · 19/11/2011 21:08

at mooncup contents down shower, though.

At our gym, the inside of the lockers has an advertisement by Special K on, with a silhouette of a stripper's body and the charming legend,

'If you've followed the Special K diet, why bother closing the curtain?'

For real. Was ClitMassageLady really slim? Might explain it.

Flanelle · 19/11/2011 21:22

thefurryone, while noticing might be hard not to do, the OP has then come home and posted on AIBU about how disgusting exfoliation in a communal shower is and is wondering if it's unacceptable.
How hard is it to shrug your shoulders, think, "bit weird!" and then move on with your life?

HexagonalQueenOfTheSummer · 19/11/2011 21:39

smartypants bleurgh at the discharge!

vess · 19/11/2011 21:53

At our pool there's a sign which says no shaving or exfoliating.

MumblingAndBloodyRagDoll · 19/11/2011 22:02

YABU! People shower off their arse sweat in there! What difference will a few skin cells make?? This is why I NEVER go to the gym or pool.
