I just prefer to give my limited funds and time to human projects instead. if given the choice of helping a sick or struggling person or a sick or struggling animal, I'd always choose the person.

I am fully aware that I will get flamed by a section of MN for this. .

You will be flamed to high hell and back, what are you thinking??!

YANBU.

Scholes34 · 18/11/2011 09:11

Your choice. YANBU. The fact that you make charitable donations is good.

GwendolineMaryLacey · 18/11/2011 09:11

YANBU but agree with Slinking. Your arse is toast :o

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 18/11/2011 09:12

No, donate where you want but YABU not to think up some other thread to post about when you've just got the idea from the CIN one. Is it too early for bumsex ones?

There is no reason at all why you should be flamed.

Charity is personal, and the fact that you want to give at all is a good thing. We all have our charities that we care about, but I don't believe any charity is more worthy that any other. If a charity has a registered charity number, it has been deemed worthy, and having just been through the process of registering a charity, I know that charities do have to prove they are worthy of people donating money to.

aldiwhore · 18/11/2011 09:16

YANBU... I like animals too! When we had a young man from Battersea Dog's Home knocking on our door and wanting a direct debit I politely declined, told the truth (diplomatically) that I already donate as much as I can to charities that I personally care about more, they happen to be human charities.

He wasn't happy. He laid it on a bit thick about poor dogs being put down, and yes, that is very sad indeed, and yes, its a worthy cause but I cannot give to everyone. He ended with 'don't you care about animals?' which kind of prompted me to say 'not as much as I care about people' and shut the door.

I felt bad, still do, but guilt trips really anger me. We all should be able to choose who to give to, and who not to, without guilt.

My friend works tirelessly to save whippets, I salute her, but just because I don't, doesn't mean I don't care or like animals.

ShirleyKnot · 18/11/2011 09:16

YANBU but...

ENJOY THE PRETTY COLOURS!

CMOTdibbler · 18/11/2011 09:17

YANBU - I choose to not donate to most childrens charities, but thats my decision.

mollschambers · 18/11/2011 09:18

My chosen charities would be childrens, local and those related to particular illnesses that have affected my family. We all have those that touch our hearts more.

YANBU.

SlinkingOutsideInSocks · 18/11/2011 09:18

See, I'd rather donate to feminist causes than to animal ones, but that makes one the devil incarnate. :) No honestly, that does actually make you head Beelzebub of all the wizards...

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 18/11/2011 09:18

MardyBra... It would have been a new dimension - and an interesting one. I don't support CIN because I can't tolerate that kind of 'show offy-ness'. I like to support various charities that don't have much exposure, some local ones - human and animal - all are just as worthy as CIN. I don't support RSPCA for the same reason as I dislike CIN.

You can support and donate to whichever you want to - or none - and nobody has the right to call you on it. It's your choice. :)

MardyBra · 18/11/2011 09:21

Just had a phone call and have to go out unexpectedly for a couple of hours. Not ducking the issues - just can't MN until later. Will be back to see if hard hat needed.

YANBU to give to what charities you want, but YABU to voice a personal preference on MN without expecting to be told that you are elitist/ judgemental/ common/ a weirdo/ delete as appropriate.

caramelwaffle · 18/11/2011 09:24

RedRubyBlues That is bloomin' brilliant

SolidGoldVampireBat · 18/11/2011 09:24

YANBU for expecting anyone who isn't a buckethead to care what charities you choose to donate to. ARe you just in the mood for getting done over by a mob of brain-donor keyboard heroes?

caramelwaffle · 18/11/2011 09:24

MardyBra Yanbu

SolidGoldVampireBat · 18/11/2011 09:25

Bollocks YANBU for choosing some charities over others YABU for expecting...

Birdsgottafly · 18/11/2011 09:25

I choose charities that have a wider impact, so will give to animal charities if it involves the eco system or has a knock on effect that will benefit the people living there.

In my work i see both animals and children living in real poverty conditions, often as a result of the 'bad decisions' of the adults supposed to care for them, whereas there is a system to pick up the pieces for the children, the 'pets' end up in places such as battersea dogs home, or abandoned.

I do honestly feel that we need to take more responsibility for the animals that we allow to breed and be bought, as a nation.

But giving to charity should be a personal choice.

Redrubyblues · 18/11/2011 09:30

Caramel

I know Grin

wildfig · 18/11/2011 09:31

YANBU to support whichever charity you want.

YABU to be poking the poor animal lovers with a big stick. I will be sending £10 to the MN Society For the Prevention of Dog-Owner Baiting, just as soon as I can get into the bath of baked beans/Iggle Piggle costume.
