Christ I think you are being OTT. I have 6 year old twin boys and they have been on the receiving end of a kick and kicked themselves. He's really sorry, he's been punished. End of. To not let him take part in Children in Need is over the top.

valiumredhead · 18/11/2011 10:07

Let him join in the fun day. Stick to one punishment. An apology note or word to the parents would be nice and might smooth the waters if they are cross about it.

IF he does it again then is the time to really react with harsh punishments imo.

'suebfg all 3 of my Dcs have, on occasion , been hurt by other kids. when it's been one off, swiftly followed by abject apologies by child and parents, it's no big deal. If a bruise is the worst thing that happens to them in life, they'll have got off lightly! Life sucks at times, sooner they understand that and can handle it, the better.'

Yeah but too often there are no apologies from child or parents and it's the parents of the 'victim' that are left to pick up the pieces. If not dealt with properly, it can spiral out of control. I see so many instances of 'soft parenting' and they wonder why their kids have no respect. My DS, who wouldn't hurt a fly, has come home from school today covered in scratches caused by another boy. They are 4 years old for Christ's sakes!!

sue, are you responding to the situation in this thread, though, or to what happened to you? they don't sound very similar situations.

suebfg · 18/11/2011 21:15

What has happened to my DS is less serious - facial scratches as opposed to a kick in the testicles causing a bruise. So yes, I think I am responding to the situation in this thread

desertgirl · 19/11/2011 08:23

Not the injury, sue, the situation, and specifically the response from child and parents, sorry if that wasn't clear.

McQueasy - Hi just wondered what happened in the end? Smile
