Do we really need to see Dr Chris sticking his fingers up Paul Ross's arse live on tv?

It's only an arse. I applaud them! That'll be the high point of Paul's career.

Although I'm waiting for PILs so I'm glad they didn't turn up at that point.

peanutmakinalistncheckinitwice · 15/11/2011 11:43

And he didn't even flinch!!! Been done before I reckon [knowing look emotion]

timidviper · 15/11/2011 11:44

Have people no shame?

I like to think I'm an intelligent, thoughtful person but every time is see things like this or Embarrassing Bodies i just think eeeeuuww!

Informing is one thing, aiming to shock or behaving like a peepshow is another

squeakytoy · 15/11/2011 11:44

To be quite fair, you didnt actually see it. And it is something that a lot of men are squeamish about getting checked out. To show that is it not as bad as they fear is good isnt it?

scaryteacher · 15/11/2011 11:51

Having had my father in law die of prostate cancer 2 months ago, which wasn't caught early enough, then anything that raises awareness is great.

ExquisiteCake · 15/11/2011 11:58

Who's Paul Ross?

Thingumy · 15/11/2011 12:00

So sorry to hear about your FIL passing scaryteacher.

My own father has raised prostate levels and has been having 6 monthly blood tests and tissue samples taken.

I just feel there was no need to show a prostate exam live,it was as timid said, like some mid morning peep show.

I think speaking about the early symptoms and signs of prostate cancer are more apt.

"Have people no shame?"

Who do you think should be ashamed? Those doing the demo on TV, or those watching? Confused

ditzymitzy2 · 15/11/2011 12:01

these damn tellies without an off button!!

SydSaid · 15/11/2011 12:01

I can't believe I missed it Sad

SydSaid · 15/11/2011 12:03

Just kidding - it's not really a big deal though, is it? I think it's really important that these issues get addressed so that men with problems might actually go to the doctor when they realise they have a problem, rather than wait until it becomes a bigger issue.

scaryteacher · 15/11/2011 12:03

Talking about it achieves nothing Thingumy, as men ignore that. They need to see that actually an examination isn't that bad, and that they could be having the blood tests as an alternative.

ShatnersBassoon · 15/11/2011 12:07

I don't have a problem with it. As long as Dr Chris didn't have a head- or finger-mounted camera, it can't have been that shocking to view.

I'm sure smear tests have been demonstrated on TV before. I can't see how a check on a man's interior is any more repulsive.

ddubsgirl · 15/11/2011 12:08

i have it on and would rather see that than watching the im a celeb catch up and they trying to make each other sick.

if it means 1 guy goes and gets checked they yes its worth it!dont like it turn tv off or over.

squeakytoy · 15/11/2011 12:09

For heavens sakes. it showed a man, lying in a robe, while a medical expert did the examination, from behind him. You didnt see his backside, you didnt see the actual examination. You saw a man having the examination and showing it wasnt too embarassing, wasnt too painful, and was over in seconds.

I find it far more distasteful seeing two grown men munching away and gagging on rotten food in a mock jungle, which was shown immediately afterwards!

Witchofthenorth · 15/11/2011 12:09

I didnt see it, but the point of doing it surely is to show men that actually there is not much to getting your prostate checked.

You can tell them till you are blue in the face the symptoms of an enlarged prostate, or prostate cancer but the majority of men still would not go to the doctor, as it is the fear of having their GPs finger up their arse that worries them more! Showing how simple and quick it is on telly can only be a good thing IMO.

YABveryU to watch this morning though! :)

Witchofthenorth · 15/11/2011 12:10

oh X posts with everyone Blush

twinklingfairy · 15/11/2011 12:12

Sounds ich! But I didn't see it and I guess if it helps men to be less woosy about it then that can only be a good thing. Mind you, is their demographic not mainly women?

Thingumy · 15/11/2011 12:14

I don't know Twinkling-didn't they have OAP's practicing sexual positions the other week? (and no,I didn't see that)

I don't generally watch the guff.

OP posts:
squeakytoy · 15/11/2011 12:16

Even if the demographic is mainly women, they are the ones who can then reassure their husbands that a check up is not going to be as bad as they are fearing.

My grandad died of prostrate cancer, and it really is such an easy cancer to cure if caught early.

Panzee · 15/11/2011 12:19

Bet they don't do a canvas of that.

picnicbasketcase · 15/11/2011 12:23

Prostate cancer runs in DP's family and he is quite worried about it - it's a great thing that they show it's not that bad to be examined for it, also that they've shown women how to check their breasts, a vasectomy being performed etc. It's reassuring for a lot of people to be able to see these things being done, it helps people not to build things up in their mind as being terrifying.
