to give an Ebayer negative feedback for...

... cancelling the transaction after the auction had ended?

I bid on and won a cotbed. It was pick up only so I immediately emailed to ask their address and arrange a convenient time to collect it. I din't pay via paypal because they wanted cash on collection.

I heard nothing from then for a day, then got an automated email from Ebay saying the transaction had been cancelled.

I contacted the seller who replied that their SIL had announced she was pg so they were giving the cot to her.

But the auction had already ended. I'm not too impressed!

Oakmaiden, I would be very careful if I were you, as eBay may just think you were shill bidding to bump up your own auction there, and mucked up and ended up winning it. It might be wise to just suck up those fees.

squeakytoy · 14/11/2011 00:10

AND if I want to get it removed Ebay will not do it and I will have to go to small claims court!!!

That is not at all true. I had a neg left to me by some prat who didnt pay. I used the live chat thingy on eBay and they removed the feedback there and then.

DoingTheBestICan · 14/11/2011 07:49

The bastards wouldnt remove the neg that the nutter who refused to pay & refused to cancel the sale, they merely said they had to leave it as it makes ebay a more transparent place to do so Hmm

Even though she wouldnt pay & had asked me to cancel the sale, then refused to.

I still think you did the right thing op,they deserved a neg for that,it gives all the genuine sellers a bad name people like that.

fergoose · 14/11/2011 07:52

if you had done none paying bidder reports rather than asking the buyer to cancel the sale, they would now have been able to leave any feedback at all.

DoingTheBestICan · 14/11/2011 07:55

Yeah i know that now,but the seller asked me specifically to cancel the sale with her as she had bid too much & wouldnt pay.
Lesson learned on that one.

pigletmania · 14/11/2011 08:08

royal the op has every right to give the seller neg feedback, ok no money was lost, but it is a binding contract and the seller should have fulfilled her side of the deal! Instead the seller messed her about, did not message her, or apologise, it was only when op messaged her that she got a reply. When exactly was the seller planning on telling the op that the item was not on sale. Very unprofessional, and other buyers should know about this so that they will be aware of this seller. If the item was no longer available, the seller should have shut the listing before the auction ended. I am both a seller and a buyer so can see both sides of the coin.

pigletmania · 14/11/2011 08:09

Yes if I pulled that stunt with a buyer I would expect neg feedback. I sell genuine designer items from my own collection, and it times they have gone way below what I paid for them, but as a seller I have to fulfill my side of the deal.

Oakmaiden · 14/11/2011 20:21

squeaky - I know - I am a bit worried about it, but to be honest I thought that since I knew I wouldn't be able to fulfil the order and was unable to close the auction, that this was the best option. Otherwise I would have had to disappoint a genuine buyer.

I have already cancelled the item now, so I am just going to have to hope that they either don't notice, or believe me when I explain what happened!

Jojay · 14/11/2011 21:40

Well I've had a snotty message from them now they've seen my negative feedback - saying that I've acted in an unacceptable way and they were only trying to look after their family.

I'm not going to respond but I still think what I did was reasonable. If they'd contacted me as soon as possible to explain the situation, I'd have been fine about it, it's the fact I had to chase it to find out what was going on, that bugged me.

Hope they don't come round and slash my tyres Grin

jojay don't feel guilty, it was their fault for pulling that one off, they should have thought about it before and been more considerate. That's not your problem, hopefully they will think twice before doing the same thing to another buyer.

pigletmania · 14/11/2011 21:44

I would reply and tell them that they were being very unprofessional, and that for their information you won the bid, its a legally binding contract which they have not fulfilled, and that you are well within your right to leave negative feedback. The fact that YOU had to chase them, they did not message you to let you know therefore other buyers have to be warned that they are unreliable.

ShellyBoobs · 14/11/2011 21:51

I would reply and tell them that they were being very unprofessional

I would reply and tell them to fuck off get lost.

Some people seem to treat Ebay like a little game where you can buy/sell an item and then decide later whether or not to go through with the transaction.

Arses.

ballstoit · 15/11/2011 16:04

Why would they have your address if you've not paid by PayPal? I sell on ebay and have never had an address for anyone until they've paid (I think)

porcamiseria · 15/11/2011 16:05

yanbu, thats BANG out of order

SarahBumBarer · 15/11/2011 16:14

Yes and you were only bidding and thinking about your family too - you might have lost other opportunities in the time they messed you around. And they're not thinking of their family really are they - they are expecting you to think of their family for them. Not your responsibility. YANBU.

MuddlingMackem · 15/11/2011 16:31

ballstoit · 15/11/2011 18:55

That's what I thought...so OP doesn't need to worry about anyone slashing her tyres etc, because they won't know where she lives will they?
