calling me from work at 1pm cos my DS4 fancied a sleep. They said he was ill and I rushed to school with a sense of urgency only to find him catnapping. He is singing and dancing now and generally rather pleased that he got to leave school early. SO so annoyed....

He's bored in reception? Good job he doesn't know what's coming over the next 13 years of school.

letmehelp · 11/11/2011 19:32

When DS2 was reception age 12 hours wasn't enough - he needed 13 hours and often had longer at the weekend.

His lovely teacher said he was so bright and had such an active imagination that his dreams were probably exhausting! He never actually fell asleep at school though and if he had I would have assumed he was ill the same as the school did.

Your son is either ill or needs more sleep at night. To say he "uses" sleep is ridiculous IMO

letmehelp · 11/11/2011 19:34

BTW YABVVU to be cross at the school for calling you because they were concerned your DS was ill. Really, you would prefer they don't call you when they have every reason to believe he's ill, even if it does turn out he's OK afterall?

marriedinwhite · 11/11/2011 19:47

Dunno letmehelp my Grandad "used" sleep, my father "used" sleep, my step father "uses" sleep, my DH "uses" sleep. I think it can be a man thing though. My DS doesn't do it though - but he never needed more than about 8 hours a night, ever.

Absolutely married, but at 5yo?

boohoohoo · 11/11/2011 20:07

I apologis op, earlier I said ywbu however on reflection yes, of course sometimes four year olds will fall asleep in the classroom and as a teacher you have to make the decision as to wether you need to call the parent, I think I got sidelined on you saying your child was bored, that I couldn't understand. Apologies.

we always used to have a little nap at school, til we were about 7, still do when I get the chance!

My DS2 has a nap any chance he gets in the arfo, he is 4.5

violathing · 12/11/2011 05:55

he was tired palin and simple but it is a one off and they should have IMO woken him up and he would have carried on as normal. It is reidculous to get the parents in in this situation There is certainly not hing wrong eith him medically - he is a lively boy who is full of beans.
He got tired after lunch and if he had been distracted he would have got through the tired spell. He didn't go to bed til 10pm last nite cos of his sleep

When I he is say he is bored he has selective interests and certain things turn him off. I have explained in life there are things we have to do that we find dull for the greater good. He is a hands on boy and likes doing things finds theory boring.

Someone said this is bad behaviour - no it isn't it is a little boy who has only been out of nursery a few weeks going to sleep. It was policy there to let them have a nap so how do they know the difference?
