WHAT'S WITH THE "I DON'T KNOW ANYONE" WHINGE? Eh? Eh?
Do you think we all meet up regularly or chat offline? I do not have any Mumsnetter friends on Facebook. I do not do MSN or anything like that. I do not keep in touch with people (so don't worry about giving me your number or telling me to pop round - I never will!) I do not have Mumsnetter friends.
Yes ok, Custy is my real life friend and she is going, but I've been to meet-ups without her and it really is no big deal. I guarantee there'll be one person there who you get on well with and you'll probably stick with them for most of the night, which is no big deal as there are so many going that you'll never be expected to talk to everyone.
I didn't go to meet-ups for years and years, then I went to one a few months ago in Bath - didn't 'know' anyone going and didn't even recognise some of the posting names. But it was fun and I ended up chatting to Crunchies half the night. We got merry, laughed at some fit blokes, tried to pull some fit blokes and then were the last to leave, complimenting peoples hairstyles/hats as we did so.
You probably won't meet your new best friend, but you will meet others who have a similar sense of humour or similar style and you'll get chatting. It's a social night out and there is hardly anyone going who actually 'knows' anyonen else. Plus if you don't want to go on your own, then you join the facebook group custy has set up, ask on there if you can meet up with just a couple of others beforehand and then you won't have to face the Dragons Den by yourself.
Oh and at the Bath meet up a male mumsnetter, who I don't think had spoken to any of the posters there, decided to come. We all admired his balls (not literally, that would be weird!) for coming. So if one lone man can walk into a room of female strangers, strike up a conversation and have a good time then you lot have no bloody excuse!
Anyway I might not go myself, I don't really know anyone and I'm skint and it's too far away and the kids will miss me and I don't like drinking and London scares me and everyone will find out I'm actually a man.
