I am a mix of my mum and dad in looks but have my dads stocky build. I have my dads horrid temper but thanks to lashings of my mums people skills am much better at controlling it. I also have his pefectionism/obsessive streak.
I am much brighter than both my parents with my fathers fierce drive and have done well for myself.
Unfortunately I have me mothers rubbish taste in men.
Freakily my DD1 is a clone of me in every way.

Dh has just told me I'm far too harsh on myself
My sister has my mums quick temper and disorganised nature
I have my dads ability to plan and more placid nature (although both dad and I can explode if really pushed)

My brother is tall and willowy, handsome and intelligent. I'm short fat ugly and stupid!

My brother got talent in heaps. At 12 he was drawing portraits the art teachers said were above and beyond anything the more talented A level students were capable of. He plays the guitar so well I have no doubt if someone looking for a guitarist for a band heard him they'd want to snap him up. Quietly intelligent but that intelligence feels almost like latent power. Yet he's 32 and lives at home, no social life whatsoever and tbh I'm pretty sure he's on the autistic spec. Shy to the point it's crippled his life.

My sister is also artistic, the only one of us to do well in her exams and go to uni (despite my brother's intelligence he chose not to do anything with it) but she's an alcoholic whose kids don't live with her and social services are heavily involved in their life. Doesn't wash properly, has tried to commit suicide many times, makes zero effort with her appearance and lives in a fantasy land where she makes things up in her head and then truly believes they happened. My poor parents, she's invented a childhood of abuse and neglect (untrue) and proudly tells anybody who'll listen.

Me? no particular talents at all. Can barely draw a stickman. But I have a nice, stable life, plenty of friends etc...

So, I never inherited heaps of talents but I too got the better genetic deal.

One odd thing I have noticed though; exceptionally good looking people don't tend to have exceptionally good looking kids. Quite the opposite infact.

3of us and quite well balanced genetically.

All intelligent but Db ( older) is fiercely so, where as younger sister is less academic but a lot more canny and shrewd.I'm somewhere in the middl I guess.
All alright looking-I was probably the 'prettier' one ( though not until I hit my 20's) but am 10 yrs older than sister so she now has youth on her side, brother is and always will be, handsome. He is immensley popular, and Funny whereas my sister and I are more happy to blend a little-though he ha my mums depressive nature and we are mor on an even keel emotionally.
.They have my dads drive And ambition, and are very successful in their chosen fields, whereas I am more like my Mum and would choose a nice sit down with a book and a cup of tea any day.

Most worringly though, as I have got older each morning when I look in the mirror I seemed to have now completely inherited m mums faceShock

I got the brains and my sister got the looks....I dont think either of us would swap :)

Now we both have babies and it looks like hers is a looker and I am still hoping for brains....although my mums only comment was 'regression to the mean'.

PrettyCandles · 07/11/2011 12:37

I think our inheritances are about even between my sibs and me, but I rather wish I had inherited my dad's excellent eyesight and my mum's strong teeth, rather than my dad's crumbling teeth and my mum's dwindling eyesight.

My brother has our grandad's gorgeous, thick, honey-blonde hair. Or rather, had, because he also inherited our dad's hair-loss gene: bald patch at 19, snooker ball at 45!

eaglewings · 07/11/2011 18:27

Was about to post that I'm glad I'm nt the only one with the raw deal, but I'm sorry for all you out there who did not get the brains, looks, good teeth, fabulous hair etc
I am jealous of those of you who have been well endowed :)
