to have just bought men's pyjamas to wear?

Having been seriously annoyed by the general lack of women's nightwear that is neither impractically 'sexy' nor covered in revolting glittery slogans or fluffy bunnies, I recetly bought plain cotton pyjamas from the men's section of a well-known catalog. They are very comfy and I think I look nice in them.

I laughingly mentioned this lack in the shops of proper sensible nightwear to one or two people, however, and they were generally unsupportive of my decision, is the best I can say about them. I got some hard to interpret looks.

I don't think IABU ... I reallly don't. AIBU? HOW aibu?

YANBU. At all.

hiccymapops · 06/11/2011 11:10

Yanbu, my favourite dressing gown is a mans Smile

Tonksforthememories · 06/11/2011 11:11

YANBU. I buy them too because women's pyjamas have ridiculously short legs! (on me anyway) What the hell is the point of wearing warm pjs when you have cold ankles?

grovel · 06/11/2011 11:13

"Favourite dressing gown"? You've got more than one?

Fileshiccy in the folder marked "POSH".

AKissIsNotAContract · 06/11/2011 11:14

YABU to not realise the delights of a onesie :)

iscream · 06/11/2011 11:16

Yanbu. Someone gave my dh a pair years ago, he never wore them, but I did, as I was pregnant and they fit me. I may follow your lead and get a pair for myself.

startail · 06/11/2011 11:22

YANBU, I have a man's towelling robe. All the women's ones that year where thin, short and pale pink or cream.

squeakytoy · 06/11/2011 11:24

Sainsburys and tesco both have a huge range of womens pj's and nighties in plain colours. So do M & S, and Primark.

Personally, I quite like fluffy pj's with cute designs. :)

happydotcom · 06/11/2011 11:26

YANBU - I too lived in a pair when preggers. Soooooooooooo comfy.

Yama · 06/11/2011 11:26

YANBU

I sometimes wear a pair of dh's boxer shorts and a t-shirt.

whatdoiknowanyway · 06/11/2011 12:34

Two years ago I would have agreed with you. Got very fed up with sparkly, fluffy stuff and no other choices. In fact I went without new pjs as I couldn't bring myself to wear the stuff in the shops.
But there seems to be a lot more choice around this year and I just bought 2 sets from tesco from quite s wide range.

Tee2072 · 06/11/2011 12:43

My dressing gown is a man's but I get a wide assortment of suitable PJs from Primark.

ViviPru · 06/11/2011 13:47

Interesting reading to a ladies nightwear designer. And glad you like the range, whatdoiknow and squeakytoy Grin

FAO MNHQ... Disclaimer: I am not canvassing, I am a genuine regular MNetter who also happens to design ladies nightwear for Tesco and stumbled across this thread.

I have NOTHING to do with the lengths of the trousers, and friends often comment to me that they are always too short. I bought a pair myself from the range this week (no free samples here) and at 5'6" they're only just ok on me. I will push harder for a rethink to the standard block measurement.

ZillionChocolate · 06/11/2011 13:51

Maybe you could start doing high waisted ones for the short people and tall people could shift them down a few inches?

OliviaMumsnet · 06/11/2011 13:57

YANBU
My house is freezing and so live in PJs in winter.
I am sick of those which are hipster so when you are curled up trying to sleep in nightwear (who would have thought people would wear PYJAMAS for that instead of lounging about?!) you get builders bum.
[grr]

Flanelle · 06/11/2011 18:45

Yes - hipster stuff! NOO! And bows. Why? Buttons - ick. And things are def too short in the leg, even though I don't have long legs.
I did look along the high street, but really couldn't take to anything much. Interesting to hear from a nightwear designer. Severely plain is good you know. Less can be so much more.

I buy men's pjs. I can't stand lace, 3/4 length trousers or studpid, uncomfortable capped sleeves.

531800000008 · 06/11/2011 18:49

I have to have 3/4 jammie bottoms because of stupid short stumpy pit pony legs

seeker · 06/11/2011 18:51

And women's pjs are made of such flimsy stuff. Men's are so much better.

keepingupwiththejoneses · 06/11/2011 18:53

I love mens pj's, they are so comfortable, although I also like the old fashioned winsy ones.

EndoplasmicReticulum · 06/11/2011 19:06

I have an old man's nightgown thing, made out of the thick stripy cotton. Female pyjamas are hopeless on me, they flap around my ankles, as someone upthread has said.

mousyfledermaus · 06/11/2011 19:09

yanbu at all.
I gave my dh myself some nice sweat pj's from uniglo. the top is long enough, the legs and arms as well. I love them.

ChickenLickn · 06/11/2011 19:30

YANBU I am going to check out mens PJs!

Why is it that womens clothes are such bad quality? I was looking for shirts and the mens ones were about 5 times thicker than the womens, and non-iron! Angry

whatdoiknowanyway · 06/11/2011 20:01

vivipru well done on the range. It's simple, and I agree with Flanelle severely plain is good.

As someone who is 5'10" and has a 5'11" daughter, longer legs would be good.
But it's hard to say just how bad the choice was previously
Winnie the pooh - no way
Cutesy slogans- I don't think so
Sparkly Christmassy stuff - I wear pjs all year round not just Christmas.

Plaid trousers (may be with turn ups that taller people can turn down) and plain. coordinating tops - perfect!
