I once saw Dave Hill buying stamps in Lea Road post office in Wolverhampton.

LaFilleSurLePont · 04/11/2011 22:37

Black Sabbath had certainly 'invented' metal when Slade were at their height.

Sevenfold · 04/11/2011 22:39

AC/DC just the beginnings of heavy metal though, just like Slade/Mud/Trex turned into what I would think of as glam rock in Faster Pussycat/Motley Crue/Poison.

(Blush at the memory of drunkenly thinking I could dance to them)

chopchopbusybusy · 04/11/2011 22:41

Hmm. No idea that they were even still together in the 1980s. They were not even close to heavy rock in the 70s when they were in the UK charts.

Mathewbellamyismyman · 04/11/2011 22:41

Dead Kennedys... are they punk?

Deep Purple

"I once saw Dave Hill buying stamps in Lea Road post office in Wolverhampton."

I once saw one of the blokes out of Sweet in Hayes near the swimming pool, they weren't heavy metal either.

AvadaKedavra · 04/11/2011 22:43

bestiswest - an ex neighbour of mine's first kiss as a teenager was with Jim Lea [the best looking one]

LaFilleSurLePont · 04/11/2011 22:43

AC/DC consider themselves to be a blues band.Personally I'd file them under hard rock, but they're certainly not Metal, though some songs have came close to being metal.

I had this argument with a manager in HMV once after looking all over the rock section for their albums, only to be told they were in the metal section.Angry

Can't remember where I heard it, but someone classified Radiohead as 'melancholy rock' Grin

yy to black sabbath mary, and led zep - classic.

(after my time though Grin)

complexnumber · 04/11/2011 22:47

"just like Slade/Mud/Trex turned into..."

I know for a fact that Trex was cooking fat!!

PeelThemWithTheirMetalKnives · 04/11/2011 22:47

Dave Hill buying stamps and the bloke from Sweet in Hayes near the swimming pool Grin

This is making me think of Vic and Bob doing Slade going camping Grin

Definitely glam rock, with a side order of pop.

BestIsWest · 04/11/2011 22:48

Ha ha at Bob Carolgees.

squeakytoy · 04/11/2011 22:49

I would put AC/DC under Heavy Rock.

80's glam rock, particularly the Poison/Motley Crue stuff is my main thing, and I would say it was a lot different to the 70's glam music.

I am going seeing Motley and Def Leppard in Dec at Wembley... cant wait Grin

Anyone who likes Motley Crue, should have a listen to Sixx AM, which is Nikki Sixx's other current band, as they are fantastic.

PeelThemWithTheirMetalKnives · 04/11/2011 22:50

Of course Slade looked much harder when they were Ambrose Slade and dressed as skinheads. Still not heavy metal of course.

ouryve · 04/11/2011 22:54

Hell no! YY at Glam Rock!

ouryve · 04/11/2011 22:56

And ACDC deffo heavy rock - there's no metal in them at all. More denim than leather, if that's any help.

complexnumber · 04/11/2011 22:58

...and whose going to buy their stamps?

PeelThemWithTheirMetalKnives · 04/11/2011 23:02

The stamp-buying rockers just seem so British don't they? Grin
