To feel a bit threatened by this ebayer?

Ok I bought an item from them, the payment said it had gone through from my end and they sent the item.... I then receive a barrage of emails saying the payment hasn't been made and that I need to pay and that if I don't they will personally come round to collect the money (from the other end of the country). Although I was sure it had I looked into it and realise ebay have made a mistake and the payment hadn't gone through.

The item arrived and was clearly fake so I told teh buyer \i would be returneing it to them which I did, they now say it hasn't arrived and if ebay don't take up their case they will take matters into there own hands...

I hope one or other of you sent the item by trackable post...

HecateGoddessOfTheNight · 04/11/2011 19:49

print out all messages and go to the police. ask them to liaise with the police where this person is and go round and have a word!

PomBearAtTheGatesOfDoom · 04/11/2011 19:49

Keep all the emails, with the headers, and report the whole thing to ebay. If you ask on the Ebay message boards (pick the appropriate one) people there will advise you exactly how to do it if you need a bit of help and support from people who know more about the workings of ebay.

redcamels · 04/11/2011 19:50

Please say you returned it by recorded delivery?

AgentZigzag · 04/11/2011 19:50

What are their feedback score/remarks like?

I would be reporting what they'd said to ebay, threatening to come round a get the payment and taking matters into their own hands aren't the way to resolve disputes.

Maybe other people have complained and yours might tip the balance so ebay gives them a kick up the rear end?

DogsBestFriend · 04/11/2011 19:52

I take it that they have said all this via pm or email?

In which case, hand copies to the police. A bit extreme, some might say, but you sound worried and the seller needs teaching that you can't go around life threatening people over trifling matters like ebay.

As far as the item and money is concerned contact ebay too and lodge a "Goods not as described" dispute.

FabbyChic · 04/11/2011 19:52

Firstly why did the payment not go through? Did they have the incorrect email address on the listing so you were able to cancel the payment?

You should always return goods signed for if you do not you cannot prove delivery.

All you can do is report them to eBay for abusive messages.

However they can pull your contact details from eBay and get your telephone number.

As you technically have not paid you cannot file any kid of dispute against the seller.

Charliesangel2009 · 04/11/2011 19:52

I'd contact the eBay complaints department firstly. They're pretty good at handling problems and IME they tend to worry more about buyers' problems rather than sellers' issues

FabbyChic · 04/11/2011 19:52

There is a report button on eBay messages you can report via that.

FabbyChic · 04/11/2011 19:53

Oh and they can also file a non payment dispute and you will get a strike on your account.

AgentZigzag · 04/11/2011 19:53

The police hecate?

Bit strong for a couple of veiled threats isn't it?

Especially when the OP's not tried to sort it through ebay.

redcamels · 04/11/2011 19:53

Re the police, I would be surprised if they give a flying shit. Take it up with eBay.

HecateGoddessOfTheNight · 04/11/2011 19:57

Oh yes, I wouldn't mess about with someone who had said they were going to travel the length of the country to 'take matters into their own hands'.

BoobleBeep · 04/11/2011 20:00

I haven't contacted ebay as I did't see the need until now but I have three young children and the last thing I want is some raging person turning up on my doorstep. They didn't send the coat recorded and I didn't send it back recorded.

It matters not how you sent it, it is how you return it. Never return anything by normal post.

If you feel threatened then contact eBay.

Seriously these people are not going to travel to where you live to see you.

Why couldn't you pay i.e why did the payment not go through?

FabbyChic · 04/11/2011 20:04

Sorry but how did you know where to return it too? A buyer never gets the sellers address unless there settings allow?

BoobleBeep · 04/11/2011 20:05

Why would I return it recorded delivery? It's not a dispute, otherwise I would have

OP posts:
BoobleBeep · 04/11/2011 20:05

They gave me the address to return it to via PM

OP posts:
thisisyesterday · 04/11/2011 20:07

oh dear, you're probably buggered then.

unless you can provide tracking number or other evidence that it reached the destination ebay will NOT find in your favour. sorry

you should always always return things recorded delivery because otherwise this happens... bad sellers claim it simply hasn't been returned and they get to keep their money.

JaneBirkin · 04/11/2011 20:07

they sound mental.

When did you post it back?

AgentZigzag · 04/11/2011 20:08

'Why would I return it recorded delivery? It's not a dispute, otherwise I would have'

Possibly because them saying they'd come round to collect the money themselves puts up red flags that they're might not be trustworthy?

At a guess.

topknob · 04/11/2011 20:08

Because ANY seller may say they haven't received it when they have and are lying !
