Oh you poor thing. I feel so bad for you - I failed twice and it's so horrible especially when you do everything right up until the last few minutes then fail. It is so very stressful though and good on you for keeping at it.

I ended up taking my test on a Sunday which really helped as there was me and one other car on the road at 8am!

You are not thick - it is really, really tough. I think you are great for even giving it a go.

mickeyjohn · 02/11/2011 13:28

YANBU!! It's bloody horrible. I passed 3rd time, but only after a lot of tears of anger and frustration and just being generally pissed off. hope you pass next time - you'll get there!! Best of luck! x

thatboysmum · 02/11/2011 13:30

I feel your pain!! I have failed 4 times in total also on stupid ridiculous things. It is sooooooo frustrating and bloody expensive too!! I have had to put it on hold again at the moment due to finances and feel like it may never happen for me :(

squinkydinkus · 02/11/2011 13:31

Aw Thankyou,Smile I'm just really dissappointed in myself, really thought I'd cracked it right until we were on our way back to the test centre, then I didn't see a pesky red light and the instructor had to tell me to stop, that sinking feeling when you know you've failed is just the worst! Got my next one booked so hopefully I'll do it next time fingers crossed.

PippiLongBottom · 02/11/2011 13:31

YADNBU. I passed on my 6th go.

thatboysmum · 02/11/2011 13:32

Oh and YADNBU for 'stuffing your face with chocolate and crying', I did the same! Good luck for next time!

WhatsWrongWithYou · 02/11/2011 13:36

I passed 4th time, after feeling it was hopeless. That was 26 years ago so I can't remember what I failed on.

It sounds as if you were blinded by nerves, but actually if you missed a red light I'd rather you had a few more lessons!

You will get to the stage where it all comes together, keep trying, maybe even change your instructor. I know my second instructor had a much calmer presence, and was quietly encouraging but didn't chat, which the previous one had. Made a huge difference.

twolittlemonkeys · 02/11/2011 13:36

I feel your pain, it took me 6 times to pass mine. What was the most irritating was that every flipping time, the examiner said - just retake it straight away, you are a good driver, yada yada yada, you just failed on this little thing.. Angry YADNBU

squinkydinkus · 02/11/2011 13:37

I feel the same thatboysmum To be honest I never really ever wanted to drive but feel I need to because of my ds's, Just don't feel I'll ever totally get it IYSWIM. Money is a problem too it is so expensive especially now with Xmas coming up, I've made up my mind though that if I don't pass the next I will wait til after Xmas. I wish you lot's of luck for when you decide to take the next one. Smile

have a little wallow in misery, then dig out the highway code, and get back behind the wheel again. It took me 4 goes, and I was amazed I passed - I am sure I ran over something on the way back to the centre...and I was panicking about being within the right speed limit all the time, and I made a bit of a hash of the bay parking. I had the last test of the day when I passed. That meant I got a reasonably easy route as the examiner wanted to go home!
Good luck - you'll get there!

Bramshott · 02/11/2011 13:40

Like Pippa - it took me 6 goes! Chin up - you'll get there (and keep stuffing the chocolate!)

valiumredhead · 02/11/2011 13:43

I failed the first time, it was in the last 5 mins of the test and I was on my way back to the test centre and up until then only had 3 minors! Grrrrrrrrrrrr!
I had even done a real life emergency stop when someone ran out onto the road an the examiner congratulated me as his feet didn't need to go near his pedals at all - but it all went tits up towards the end! I went down a one way street and he told me to go right and I stayed on the left side of the road Sad but IF there had been a car behind me ( there wasn't!) it would've seen me indicating right AND I would've looked in my mirrors and seen them so would've been aware of them,

Better luck next time! x

squinkydinkus · 02/11/2011 13:44

whatswrongwithyou I agree I should have failed for not spotting the red light Grin think I got all excited at the end thinking I had passed, the light was at a really funny angle and I was waiting to turn right, there was another car in front of me waiting to turn right too, just as that car turned I moved forward just as the red light came on so I didn't actually go through it but because I moved slightly forward I was asked to stop and so failed. twolittlemonkeys I keep getting that too, I almost have a clean sheet at the end and have for all 3 tests so my instructor just keeps saying you can drive you've just been very unlucky book in straight away!

OP posts:
toboldlygo · 02/11/2011 13:44

I was all ready to be sympathetic but you missed a red light?!

valiumredhead · 02/11/2011 13:46

Keep having lessons while you wait for your next test - do NOT let it slide, big mistake, you need to keep at test level....until you pass and then it all goes to pot anyway as that's when you really learn to drive Grin

thatboysmum · 02/11/2011 13:46

twolittlemonkeys that is exactly what all my bloody examiners said to me and it annoyed me more than actually failing!! If you can see this and understand that it was something silly you only have to tick the pass box instead of the fail! Squinkydinkus fingers crossed we will get there eventually! Good luck, hopefully it will be the last test for you!

valiumredhead · 02/11/2011 13:49

Actually OP missing a red light is pretty major, so you just need more practise, - keep going, you'll get there!

squinkydinkus · 02/11/2011 13:52

toboldlygo I know Can't believe I did it Blush That's why I'm angry with myself

my mum game my friend half a valium for his 9th driving test...... calmed him down and he passed.... mind you that was 15 years ago .obviousley not suguesting you drug yourself but could you do somthing claming before hand so you are nice and relaxed?

My sister passed first time and she is a shit driver... i passed second time.... Pretty sure first time instructer failed me for my repeatedly complaing about him banging his pencil on his clipboard ;)

thatboysmum · 02/11/2011 13:56

squinkydinkus That happened to me. I was in the wrong lane so thought ok i'll correct this safely, did all my checks etc (we were sitting at traffic lights) turned the wheel slightly, no gas or anything, to be ready to pull across to the next lane but because I looked like I was going to pull out I failed. I was absolutely gutted, can't remember which one this was, possibly the last. The two other occasions were for similar. I failed the first but was so nervous i completely understand that one, it was cringe worthy! I also have an almost clean sheet on all no more than 7 seven minors on each. So frustrating.

CrystalQueen · 02/11/2011 13:57

I passed on the fourth go. If it helps, it's not really any better when you fail right at the start because you still have to drive round in the knowledge that it's all for nothing!

JuliaScurr · 02/11/2011 13:58

The only reason I never failed a driving test is because I never had the confidence to take one (after a LOT of lessons). Chocolate and crying sounds like an eminently reasonable way to deal with it. My aunt took it 9 times. She could drive ok, but she couldn't pass that pesky test. Good advice above; good luck next time!

squinkydinkus · 02/11/2011 13:58

I tried Kalms for my first test but they didn't agree with me had the total opposite effect on me, couldn't sleep had shivers felt really panicky, what I found helped a little was eating a banana just before I left, seemed to chill me out a little bit, read that it worked somewhere, cant say it totally calmed me down, I was still nervous but took a bit of the edge off for me.

OP posts:
snoopdogg · 02/11/2011 13:59

I feel for you, I failed my first about three minutes in because I didn't notice a 'no entry' sign, you know, the big red ones with a black line through the middle..... the examiner slammed on the anchors at the last moment. I spent the rest of the test begging him to let me just go back to the test centre because I knew I'd failed.

Second one was on the morning of the work's Christmas do. I was wearing a reasonably short skirt but when I sat in the car for my test it rode up and showed the tops of my stockings.Blush I felt so self concious and convinced that the examiner would think I'd worn it deliberately etc etc that I couldn't focus on driving at all. Plus I was trying not to extend my legs as it just flashed more thigh which made gear changes tricky - and braking - and accelerating. Complete nightmare start to finish.

Passed third time

wigglybeezer · 02/11/2011 14:00

Another one who passed on sixth go! Keep going you will get there.
