Clearly I've been missing a trick!

My dd has a dumbo comforter she adores and won't go to sleep without it. As you can imagine it often needs washing so thought I would get a spare. Not in shops anymore.

Looked on ebay and it is selling for :£25 used! It cost less than 5 new.

How I wish I had bought another!

Yanbu. Dd has an asda comforter, cost £3 looked on eBay for a spare as asda stopped selling them and they were going for £20+.

Really do need a spare or convince her to transfer her affections to another teddy that I can get 2 of a lot cheaper than on eBay!

splashymcsplash · 01/11/2011 00:17

I feel rather miffed. I know its supply andd demand and all that but it feels a bit exploitative that some people are making so much money out of it.

Dd woke up and her comforter was in the dryer so I had her screaming for half an hour till it dried.

I'm a student single mum so won't be able to fork out for a spare. :(

Same goes for dummies. When TT discontinued their orthodontic range in July 2008 I didn't realise. Dd1 born Sept 2007, firmly attached but didn't think to buy anymore, eventhough she refused any others! Check out ebay's buy it now prices if you want a heart attack!

Happydogsaddog · 01/11/2011 00:24

** sorry DD born 2008 (two months after they discontinued)

Acceptableintheeighties · 01/11/2011 00:29

I'm a horrible mum and won't let ted out of the house, unless going to gps houses so I know where it is if it gets left behind.

Dd has also been known to cuddle it straight out of the washer, after helping me put it in there and waiting next to the machine for the cycle to finish. (was only a 30 min cycle, I'm not too mean!)

I am completely paranoid about losing it as she loves it, her face lights up when reunited with it after a trip out.

Happydogsaddog · 01/11/2011 00:30

Never follow your own advice, someone call me an ambulance - two listings for buy it now; £75.00 and £99.99 I kid you not!!!

splashymcsplash · 01/11/2011 00:34

Happy dog do you have a link? I searched and could only find the cheap ones.. assuming tt stands for tommee tippee.

I found a twin of my DS1's teddy in a charity shop for 10p! I'd have paid a lot for it too.

ninedragons · 01/11/2011 00:57

DD1 got attached to a type of dummy we bought in China before we moved to Australia, where this exact type of dummy is not sold. We had three of them and had frisk her before she left the house - under no circumstances were they allowed to live anywhere but her mouth or the dummy dish.

I finally found an acceptable local substitute and the three original ones are in my jewellery box. DH and I discussed it and she can have one of the original ones back if she ever requires overnight hospitalisation.

Nobody has brand loyalty like a toddler.

breatheslowly · 01/11/2011 09:08

Our nursery suggested a "muzzie" when DD was 6 months - so DD will accept any muslin. This saves so much hassle and if we forget it for nursery they have loads there. She does tend to hunt through the clean washing for them, scattering everything in the process.

Moominsarescary · 01/11/2011 09:10

My dn has 3 Ellie comforters from tesco. I think they were £4, they are also going on eBay for £25 as they no longer sell them

itspeanutbutterjellytime · 01/11/2011 09:14

breatheslowly DS has a 'muzzie' too; he loves them and will have any old one thank goodness!

ZeldaUpNorth · 01/11/2011 09:22

DD1q liked her dummy's but luckily would have any cherry teat ones. Dd2 loved her bottles and dd1's Glo-e-bear. Dd3 likes her cot quilt which is quite big so i dont often let her take it out as it drags on the floor. Its so cute when she come home and sees it and cuddles up to it.

Happydogsaddog · 01/11/2011 09:39

Sorry splashy I used the ebay app, I searched Tommee Tippee dummy: buy it now only

WilsonFrickett · 01/11/2011 09:43

A friend of mine found an identical panda to her DS's favourite comforter in a charity shop for a quid and a little too gleefully pounced on it. Her DS took one look and said, with that tone only a toddler can muster up 'That is a shop panda'. I kid you not, it was identical and she'd washed them both so they'd smell the same, and he still saw right through it.

Shop panda is now granted affection, but will never be loved like panda panda Grin

hayleysd · 01/11/2011 09:43

Nuby have brought out some dummies which I think are almost identical to the discontinued tommee tippee ones, I got some in boots, are they round with a cherry test but clear plastic?

splashymcsplash · 01/11/2011 14:05

Nine pandas that is so true!

Thanks for the charity shop tip, I'll have a look but I think the ingestion round here consider comforters to be below them.. if only they knew!

Breathe slowly - wish I had known about the muzzie trick!

Glitterkitten · 01/11/2011 14:12

splashy- i think i have the comforter you refer to- my DD never used it. she has latched onto a Taggy and any comforter now lies unused and forlorn.

you can have it if you like! its a dumbo head on a piece of cloth. Grey coloured and lovely and soft.

BlueAndBrown · 01/11/2011 14:17

I sold two identical Tesco comforters on ebay recently. I put them on as a matching pair, rather than separate items to try to increase competition for them and it worked. I got £37 for them, they were less than £5 each and despite being in good condition, they were used not new.

We have spares of the favourite toys. We tracked one down on ebay for our eldest, when DD2 came along we bought 2 of the teddy we put in her cot so we have always had a spare of that.

Now, if I buy a comforter for a baby shower or something, I usually give a matching pair.

ChunkyMonkeyMother · 01/11/2011 14:23

Before my ds was born a particularly cute teddy bear was on offer in asda for £3 - we bought one and then got another 3 as gifts! At first we were going to re-gift them as they had gone back to £6 but we are so so glad we haven't - we have 4 of them in circulation now, 2 here, 1 at GPs and 1 put away safely just incase - its very handy, now if I'm buying a teddy for a baby gift I will always try to buy 2 just incase, I know ours have come in very handy and wash lovely too! Thank god for asda I say ha ha

naturalbaby · 01/11/2011 14:27

ds1 has a muzzie so we're o.k there but ds2 has an out of production french rabbit. it has been such a drama - we were clever and bought a spare one for going out (there was no way i'd let his precious bunny out the house) but he lost the spare and then our bag was stolen with it's replacement in! he frequently digs out the spare one if he's having a bad day so he has 'more bunnies'.

i've only just realised how much some comforters are selling for on ebay. i was lucky my replacements only cost £10! i was very tempted to start buying up random soft toys the other day for future ebay fortunes but our house is full of enough unused stuff.

Insomnia11 · 01/11/2011 14:27

DD2's bear is from Canada. Big trip to replace him.

Moominsarescary · 01/11/2011 14:36

blue were they blue elephant comforters? we have 2 , one stays in the bad and the other stays downstairs and goes out with us

He won't sleep without Ellie
