to think DP is being an idiot with this

My brother is staying with us as my parents are away and on Saturday he went round to a friends house. They started to watch Clockwork Orange and my brother walked out and came home because he didn't like the violence in the film. DP was incredilous at this saying that he was being oversensitive (not to his face I might add) and that his friends will probably taunt him about it. I think its fine.

yanbu
well done your brother.
your dp is being a twat

MenopausalHaze · 31/10/2011 21:57

Whatever happened to 'each to their own'?? I wouldn't watch something gratuitously violent - it just doesn't do it for me. Likewise horror - I just don't get why anyone enjoys that! So I don't watch it and if anyone finds that odd - well - errr - fuck 'em!

oila · 31/10/2011 21:57

Should add my brother is only 15

If he was confident enough to walk out he can probably handle any taunting. Good for him for not just sitting through something he finds distasteful.

BlueKangaroo22 · 31/10/2011 21:59

your bro did right thing...clockwork orange is a terribly disturbing films and it stuck with me for years

auntiepicklebottom2 · 31/10/2011 22:00

i love horror films with loads of gore ect, but that is just me..... i tend to watch them on my own as DH doesn't like them.

well done to your brother for not bowing down to peer presure

bushymcbush · 31/10/2011 22:00

I can't watch that film either, and I'm not all that easily disturbed when it comes to fictional violence. I know exactly where your brother is coming from. Plus, I'm mightily impressed with him for following his true self instead of moulding himself to fit in with friends.

Your DP is being an arse.

pchick · 31/10/2011 22:02

Your brother sounds mature to me. Well done to him.

BunWrapper · 31/10/2011 22:04

I didn't think ACWO was that bad Confused

I did the same with pulp fiction at that age (i'm old!) and was mocked for it. I shrugged it off.

I'm sure your brother will too

kickingking · 31/10/2011 22:05

I would be very proud if DS acted as your brother has done.

bushymcbush · 31/10/2011 22:05

Thing about Clockwork Orange is that it's not standard horror / gore. It's far more disturbing than that. The young men are 'normal' but just kind of fall into casual and extreme violence through nothing more than boredom and bravado and mob mentality. The set up is completely different to standard horror, where a psychopath or possessed person or some supernatural being is meting out the violence.

Matronalia · 31/10/2011 22:08

Your brother sounds fab. Nothing worse than someone suppressing their own tastes for the sake of others opinions. If he didn't like it and didn't want to watch it then good on him. He sounds fabulous.

aerol · 31/10/2011 22:09

YANBU I hate that film with a passion and if he receives prolonged taunting about leaving then he should probably look for a new set of friends.

ChippingInAutumnLover · 31/10/2011 22:10

Your brother sounds more mature than your DP.

weevilswobble · 31/10/2011 22:10

Good lad!

WilsonFrickett · 31/10/2011 22:12

If his friends taunt him about it, I say it's time to get new friends. Well done him, there's no way I had that strength of mind at age 15. You should be proud of him.

kiola · 31/10/2011 22:13

Whilst I think your brother was right to walk out if he really found it disturbing, your DP may not be wrong in as far as that he will be open for some mockery for being scared of a film at 15.

MurderBloodstabsandgore · 31/10/2011 22:15

what bushy said.

it's a disturbing film, rather than 'scary'

janewa · 31/10/2011 22:20

I don't know as whilst he's free to do what he wants. I would worry a little if he is that fragile generally as its a big bad world.

pozzled · 31/10/2011 22:29

I haven't seen the film but I think it took a lot of maturity to walk out if he didn't like it or didn't agree with it.

unhappychanger · 31/10/2011 22:31

I liked the book but couldn't watch the film either it was horrible! He has good judgement!

thisisyesterday · 31/10/2011 22:31

yabu

your dp isn't "being an idiot" simply by having a different opinion to you

piloi · 31/10/2011 22:32

I salute your brother but unfortunately he may get teased about it as I remember a girl at my school who couldn't watch the original hills have eyes and she was taunted and teased about it for ages.
