AIBU to bring nearly better ds to playcentre instead of family party

sil is having a halloween party but since she has 1yr old twins and all my nieces are 3 and younger i was not going to take ds in case he gave them the vomiting bug.

he has not got sick since yesterday lunch time and is up since 6am full of beans eating and drinking fine so was going to take him to a play centre instead.

AIBU not wanting to risk close family but take him to public play centre instead? even though i am 99 percent sure he is better

YABU If he's not able to go to SIL's I certainly wouldn't be taking him to a play centre either!

JugsMcGee · 31/10/2011 07:54

YABU. 48 hour rule. I speak as someone whose 8 month old has had diarrhoea for a week now. It's not fair on others.

pigletmania · 31/10/2011 07:56

YABU its 48 hours for a reason, though he is better, he still could be carrying it and pass it onto other kids.

pigletmania · 31/10/2011 07:57

Don't think the other parents would thank you tbh

Dee03 · 31/10/2011 08:01

You should wait at least 48 hours after the last bout b4 you take him out and about with other children....

MrsSleepy · 31/10/2011 08:03

So the general public are less worthy than your family!! YABVVVVVU

pigletmania · 31/10/2011 08:04

Why don't you have a cosy day at home instead.

scuzy · 31/10/2011 08:05

i just didnt want him to miss out and he wont be in such close contact with others at the playcentre as he would with his cousins. besides you risk catchin something all the time when your kids are in public.

he has been in all weekend with a trip to A&E yesterday as well. he had hit his head on friday on concrete and to make sure the vomitting wasnt a delayed concussion we spent hours in A&E.

or take him out for some fresh air and the park where there are not too many kids as its school, sometimes in our park in the day there are no kids

scuzy · 31/10/2011 08:07

i would pigletmania but its absolutley bucketing down here.

Yes you do risk something, I wouldn't put anyone else's child at risk if one of mine had a bug or anything, It's a 48 hour rule for a reason and anyone that chooses not to abide by that is very selfish IMO.

JugsMcGee · 31/10/2011 08:09

Yes you do, but the risk would be a lot less if people kept their DC in when they were ill/recovering.

Hope his injury wasn't too serious.

scuzy · 31/10/2011 08:09

thats fair enough MrsSleepy i guess i wouldnt like ds to catch something another parent knew was contagious. another day in doors for poor ds on his own. he was so looking forward to it with his fireman sam costume.

sorry guys guess i was being selfish.

You are being selfish, what is one day! Yes kids can catch things all the time, but why put other people at risk because you want to take your child to the playcentre. I had a friend who invited us round when dd was 1, her ds and dd had a stomach bug and were 'better' as they only stopped the day before, she did not tell me this until I got to her house and i was too embarrassed to leave, lo behold my dd got a violent case of D/V a few day after Hmm. What is wrong with people, take him out in the fresh air where he will be in the open. He can still be carrying it fgs! What if another child touches him, or goes near him, he touches the toys and contaminates them Hmm

JugsMcGee · 31/10/2011 08:14

Poor DS? It's only one more day. I feel more sorry for small babies who end up ill for a week because of such selfishness.

Can't you do him a party at home? Picnic tea, wear his costume, play some games?

scuzy · 31/10/2011 08:14

i'm not going to take him to party or playcentre. i will try make a fuss of him at home.

sensible move scuzy. I know it is difficult when you are at home with little ones all day.

pigletmania · 31/10/2011 08:19

Thats good Smile there are lots of nice things you can do at home, and he is only 1 so probably not as demanding as a 2-3 year old. hope that he is better now.

pigletmania · 31/10/2011 08:19

Take him out in his buggy for a walk for some fresh air

scuzy · 31/10/2011 08:19

he is nearly 3

It's very hard when LO's get ill but vomitting bugs spread so quickly that you are best to stay at home until 48 hour since the last incident. Ds was ill last week and poor dd is now poorly. Another week of being stuck in the house but there isn't much I can do about that!

scuzy · 31/10/2011 08:23

pigletmania its bucekting rain with severe winds! anyways not making any more excuses i was being selfish guess i needed an MN kick up the arse. will think of things to do at home. thanks guys.
