to ask you if you still need to produce I.D when purchasing alcohol?

I was asked for I.D. last night in Sainsbury's while attempting to purchase a bottle of gin to take to a party. As I had not had to produce I.D. since 5 years ago at the age of 36 I thought those days were gone.

The cashier explained that anyone who looked under the age of 25 had to produce I.D when purchasing alcohol. I had to ring my husband to bring my driving licence down as the cashier would not budge.

I was wondering how often does this happen to other people of my age. What can I do to make myself look older?

Disclaimer: this is a stealth boast Grin

Yes I'm always asked for ID, but I'm only 23 and everyone that looks under 25 has to be asked.

I am 36 and recently restarted smoking - been IDed twice in the past month for buying ciggies!
I am shocked and flattered :o

Have you seen this story?

I've been ID'd thrice in the last fortnight, I'm 28.

Firstly for a bottle of £30 pink champagne (what every under ager drinks dont you know)
Secondly for a bottle of vinegar?! I think she thought it was wine . . .
Thirdly for christmas crackers in M&S?

Luckily I always have my drivers licence but really?

I bought my mother a bottle of Taittenger on Monday for her birthday and was ID'd.

I am 25. I asked the til woman;

"How old do I look?"

She said: "21"

Me: "Oh, so I look over the age of 18".

Her: "Yes. You are clearly over 18 but you look younger than 25".

I am 25. So it's neither here nor there. Still annoying.

At age 36 I was the oldest one in our group of 5 and the only one that had to produce ID on a night out. The youngest in the group was 24! It made my night! Grin

I asked a check-out operator in Sainsbury's "Aren't you going to ask for proof of age?" and she fell about laughing!
