Birds made out of newspaper? Why? Just why?

OP posts:
VivaLeBeaver · 30/10/2011 18:42

DD is keen to make those seagulls.

Mardymwahhaha · 30/10/2011 18:44

OK. So far only two DDs want to make newspaper seagulls. It is evidently a children's programme.

I would have liked it more if there were more newspaper seagulls and such like and less cakes and flowers with rosettes stuck to them on display in big tents.

Country fairs have always frightened me. It's because they are filled with people trying to charge you £5.50 for a small pot of turnip jam or £15 for a hairbrush some bloke made on his own lathe and (I always suspect) with the bristles from his own beard.

VivaLeBeaver · 30/10/2011 18:51

I'm going to try newspaper owls. Grin

I like it. Harmless and nice to watch. Quite funny she expects to win against people who've been practicing their craft for years but nice to see handmade stuff against the wave of "machine made in China" stuff we are all so busy filling our houses with.

YABU.

Bloody hell, where I live it's far more likely you'd be charged £5.50 for a homemade razor blade knife and some gone off cheapo tommy K decanted into a different bottle.

UniS · 30/10/2011 18:58

FWIW nooneisgoingtoeatyoureyes... Kirsty has got it right abou tteh Devon/ cornwall different cream tea styles. Here in Devon Clotted cream ( proper devon clotted cream) replaces butter.

usualsuspect · 30/10/2011 18:59

I do watch it and think one day I will grow up and do crafty things ,then I realise I'm 52 Grin

i watched the first episode and the only thing i came away with was wondering why she has so many bloody kitchens!!

thefirstMrsDeVeerie · 30/10/2011 19:13

I wanted to throw something at the TV last week. ITS ONLY A BLOODY CAKE! as she gently pushed an artfully placed stray hair out of her eyes, leaving a smudge of flour on her rosy cheek. Then she hauled herself around a thousand chat shows to tell us it was all done at 3am,

She also managed to mention she had children 20 times as she exclaimed 'the children have pinched my spatula' just to show she is a busymumofyoungchildrenwhojugglesacareerandhome.....

I cant really dislike her as such because she is very likable. But if I had a nemisis it would be Kirsty shaped.

twinklytroll · 30/10/2011 19:29

I think we have two daughters and an adult as I live making things too. It is all harmless and if it encourages people to do more things with their children or even to be more creative themselves it is all good IMO.

twinklytroll · 30/10/2011 19:29

Like not live

LaurieFairyCake · 30/10/2011 19:42

We love it !! Dd aged 13 and her 2 mates have made newspaper animals since we saw it.

We have 15 animals in varying stages of being papered. They're fab!

ThePathanKhansWitch · 30/10/2011 19:59

She annoys the fuck out of me. I'm at a loss to understand how she gets this banal shite commissioned. .

ChinaInYourHands · 30/10/2011 20:00

I am really into crafts but I feel it's a real shame that the only crafty program in mainstream tv is something so stale and uninspiring. Obviously Kirsty has never heard of www.etsy.com/.

EmpireBiscuit · 30/10/2011 20:01

My DH has been on time time a couple of times so I have a fierce sense of loyalty to the show but Kirsty can keep her wallpaper sewing cards...or whatever she spends 5mins cobbling together!

MercyDulbottle · 30/10/2011 20:03

I loved the christmas one, BECAUSE OF COURSE I'M GOING TO MAKE MY OWN BASTARD GLASS BAUBLE AT MY HANDY LOCAL GLASSBLOWER'S AREN'T I?

also she made a wierd big rosette thing out of ribbon to wear on her wrist.

thefirstMrsDeVeerie · 30/10/2011 20:13

Wasnt it darling when she dropped in on an old family friend who just happened to have a chest full of vintage Laura Ashley and Liberty Print furnishing fabric?

What a stroke of luck and her being an interior designer who could help run up the curtains and soft furnishings.

Such fun and something we can all do.

ThePathanKhansWitch · 30/10/2011 20:22

Know what i mean tho MrsD innit? Yes coz all my friends just happen to have chests of Liberty lying around.Not. She so Mary Poppins.

rhondajean · 30/10/2011 20:23

I have a lovely red sewing machine because of Kirsty.

I have a beautiful big white Kitchen Aid because of Nigella.

Apparently I look like Kirsty. Hmm.

I spent yesterday blissfully learning new stuff and spending a fortune on a bunch of crap I wont get round to making till 2014 at a huge craft fair in Glasgow.

I loved the gelatine flowers.

I am VERY annoyed with liz Jones for tearing through Kirsty today and implying that crafters and bakers do not take care of themselves (for you info, Liz, last week I went to the gym three times, baked my Christmas cake, had a pedicure, haircut, manicure AND my Hollywood lashes sorted, knitted a scarf and made progress on the cross stitch Xmas stocking so THERE). And I normally like Liz Jones.

However even I find that programme boring. There must be a better way to present this stuff - I am definitely not a lone, there is a huge market, from the number of magazines/ number of people at that craft fair yesterday.

southeastastra · 30/10/2011 20:24

the show does remind me of how the daily mail You magazine always feature women who have made it big in the cupcake industry

er go sister

ThePathanKhansWitch · 30/10/2011 20:26

Rhonda what are Hollywood lashes, and can i knit myself a pair?? [hsmile].
