Ok DS1 wants his bedroom done for christmas new bed the lot.

So I have made this suggestion which my mum thinks is me BU.

DS1 gets my double bed
so I save money there, with the money I save I will buy him a
New TV,
double bedding
new quilt
tv wall bracket
the wall decal he has been eying up on ebay
new furniture chest of drawers, book shelf etc
and get freeview in his bedroom.

My mum thinks it is U of me to give him my bed as it is second hand.

Not U at all if it's in good nick. He is not exactly going to be thumbing through furniture catalogues surely? All he wants is a double bed, he'll get one, end of.

GuillotinedMaryLacey · 30/10/2011 12:09

She's bonkers.

New TV ££
Bedding ££
Those big wall decals cost a bit don't they?
Furniture, definitely ££

Plus the joy of a fab new bedroom. Unless the bed you're passing on is a hessian sack stuffed with straw then it sounds perfect. Wish someone would do me a new bedroom for Christmas.

Nanny0gg · 30/10/2011 12:10

How old is he??
(Just curious...)

squeakyfreakytoy · 30/10/2011 12:11

Not unreasonable at all. I would ask if she wants to buy him a new bed if she is so bothered Grin

LadyEvenstarsCoven · 30/10/2011 12:11

similar bed to this and approx 1yr old

DS1 is 13yrs.

usualsuspect · 30/10/2011 12:13

What will you sleep on though?

LadyEvenstarsCoven · 30/10/2011 12:14

The thing is he wants a lot of lights like lava lamps etc as they help him feel calm, he would love a big bean bag to sit on or a gaming rocking chair.

If I spend £200 ?? on a new bed for him then I won't be able to get the other things he wants.

He has had a tough time this year with things since being dx with Aspergers and has lost interest in a lot. I want to create a room for him where he will be able to go and just be him but also be able to watch tv etc or just lounge and relax.

US The conversation with DS1 about christmas happened on Friday, I have been watching a bed for myself on ebay since Wednesday. I was just going to chuck my bed on freecycle but then decided it was a better idea to give it to DS1.

He is fine with this btw as he realises he will get more of the other stuff he wants/likes this way.

YANBU We did it for DD2's christmas and birthday last year she was 15 went the whole hog decorated, carpet, furniture and soft furnishings. She loved it and it is still immaculate 99% of the time.

twinklytroll · 30/10/2011 12:18

I think your son and Mum are being unreasonable .

usualsuspect · 30/10/2011 12:18

oh thats ok then ,I thought you were going to swop for his single bed Grin

LittleMissFlustered · 30/10/2011 12:18

I think it's way too much to spend on a 13 year old for Christmas, but that's just an opinion.

If you are happy to spend the money, and to donate your bed then go ahead. Your mum can tut and huff, but unless she plans to fork out the money for a brand new one herself she ought to just wind her neck in a little:)

noblegiraffe · 30/10/2011 12:18

Your mum is bonkers. What a waste of money it would be to buy him a new bed while simultaneously giving a perfectly good bed away.

Is she usually utterly useless with money?

I also think it is a lot to spend on a 13 year old for Christmas, but if it will help him with his Aspergers and will last, then it's a good investment.

LadyEvenstarsCoven · 30/10/2011 12:20

Twinky why is DS1 being unreasonable??

He is happy with it.

It sounds lovely. You're happy: he's happy. Tell your Mum to keep her nose out - it's nothing to do with her.

I think it sounds a lot to spend, but in this case it sounds like money well invested.

LadyEvenstarsCoven · 30/10/2011 12:24

It is a lot of money but the past few christmas's and birthdays I have not been able to get all of what he wants.

This year all he got was some lego (loves this) and a couple of pairs of jeans.

He really lost interest in so much and I am hoping by doing this for him it will make him feel better. He has FINALLY got 2 friends - the first he has ever had and it would be great for him to feel he could bring the here to his little domain.

LadyEvenstarsCoven · 30/10/2011 12:27

Buy a TV with integrated dvd and freeview cost around 108 for a 22" from eBay.

ZillionChocolate · 30/10/2011 12:29

Perhaps your mum would like to buy him a new mattress for Christmas?
