To have screamed like a fishwife in the middle of a packed high street?

Walking through town today, busy saturday afternoon full of shoppers. Dp and I hadn't taken the pushchairs for DS as I'm trying to get him into the habit of walking more. Toddler DS ran in front of some guy, DP immediatly apologised and picked up our DS. Chap then does this huge 'comedy' kick and laughs to his Gf like he's the funniest
man alive.

Ok so I'm 5 months pregnant, hormonal and perhaps I was being a bit precious but I just saw red Blush and said to the guy "as if you just did that right in front of me" this quickly turned into a huge slanting match in the middle of the street. I know he was joking I never thought for a minute he was going to kick my son but why would you even joke about something like that???!! If an old lady had stumbled in front of him would he have done the same? TO HER FACE?!

He told me to get a grip Grin

I await more of the same... No but honestly would you have let that go?

He was joking for gods sakes... do you really think he would have kicked your child?

Cathycomehome · 29/10/2011 23:30

Yeah, I would have, to be honest - he didn't kick your son, he made a joke.

Cathycomehome · 29/10/2011 23:30

I meant - I would have let it go, sorry!

VivaLeBeaver · 29/10/2011 23:31

Yabu.

lisad123 · 29/10/2011 23:31

yes, because it was a joke, and clearly was messing about Hmm
you do need to get a grip

worraliberty · 29/10/2011 23:32

Of course I would have let it go..it was a joke FGS!

And why do people always feel the need to include 'I'm pregnant so hormones blah blah' in their OP to excuse their misery?

NewShooz · 29/10/2011 23:32

Hmmmm I think he has a bit of a strange sense of humour.

He most probably was joking, and as you say you never thought he had intentions of kicking your son, but that's a bit of a silly reaction imo! (From him not you) I too would have been a bit Shock

MrsRetchingBloodAndGuts · 29/10/2011 23:32

I'd have 'comedy' punched him in the head

Shakey1500 · 29/10/2011 23:33

Yes I would have let it go.

YABU (and get a grip Grin

Kayano · 29/10/2011 23:34

To be fair worra sometimes the pregnancy bit is relevant

Maybe not here but seriously today I wrote someone's name on an envelope upside down and sobbed for 10 minutes lol Wink

EllaDee · 29/10/2011 23:34
Shock

That's a horrible thing he did. You don't pretend you're about to kick a child FFS!

Yes, you should not have screamed, I'm sure it'd have been better to be cool and dignified with a killer put-down (wouldn't it always?), but he was out of line badly.

scaryhairydroopytits · 29/10/2011 23:35

I'm with you OP. Making a joke about kicking a baby, to his pregnant mother, is never going to win the fucking Perrier award is it? Passive aggressive arsehole. Hope you are ok now.

MenopausalHaze · 29/10/2011 23:35

Does pregnancy turn you into a humourless sour faced misery then? I didn't know that!

worraliberty · 29/10/2011 23:36

I know what you mean Kayano but it doesn't excuse anyone from screaming like a fishwife in the middle of a packed high street cos someone joked with them.

ThatsNotMyBabyBelly · 29/10/2011 23:37

I think he sounds a cock, and probably would have said "what a cock" to dh but nothing to him. Not worth the hassle.

squeakyfreakytoy · 29/10/2011 23:37

OP, you say yourself it was a "comedy kick"... it doesnt sound remotely aggressive.... it isnt like he said "yes, get the little git out of my way"....

GrownUpZombieKiller · 29/10/2011 23:37

I never see any interesting slanging matches on the high street. My money is on the angered pregnant mother going lioness on the dumb guy play kicking her toddler.

sabrinathemiddleagedwitch · 29/10/2011 23:37

You can't scream at every non funny person who thinks they are funny. You would be hoarse. You need to let it go.

EllaDee · 29/10/2011 23:38

Oh, lovely, she's 'humourless' is she?

Because violence is inherently oh-so funny? Especially in the context of small children - anyone remember Baby Peter?

I will put my cards on the table and admit physical violence makes me sick to my stomach, and I would flinch from a 'comedy' punch. It's not funny at all. If someone has such a great sense of humour, I am sure they can find other things to joke about.

staylucky · 29/10/2011 23:39

Excuse what misery??
I am hormonal, I don't make a habit of screaming at people in the street or anywhere actually.

Tbh it was the equivilant of a snide comment whilst in earshot. We'd apologised, moved our toddler, he wasn't joking with us.
Anyhoo I'm banning myself from the town centre on a weekend Grin

And on a more serious note, when you're in a packed High Street make sure your toddler holds you hand.

Apart from the fact it can take a nano second to get lost, they run the risk of being run over by motorbility scooters...they're silent and move far too fast.

This happened to a Mum who used to post on an Ebay chat forum...her toddler suffered horrific injuries.

cantspel · 29/10/2011 23:41

How do you jump from some twat doing a comedy kick in your local high street to baby peter?

Ever so slight over reaction going on here

worraliberty · 29/10/2011 23:43

Because violence is inherently oh-so funny? Especially in the context of small children - anyone remember Baby Peter?

Oh have a word with yourself for goodness sake

How on earth can you link horrific child abuse to a 'comedy kick'?

Sorry but that's just sick.

lollystix · 29/10/2011 23:44

Tbh I would have let it go but thought 'twat'. I'm not great at confrontation though.

EllaDee · 29/10/2011 23:46

No, it's not sick. Violence against children is never funny. How you can think that miming a kick at a toddler is funny, I do not know.

But does it not occur to you that maybe if fewer people thought violence were somehow amusing, and ok to joke about, just maybe, it'd be less likely that violence would go unnoticed?
