To love fireworks

Will all people who hate fireworks please stop moaning.
They are FUN, no nonsense pointless fun. They make up for the dark evenings and remind us that we were once all children looking forward to Christmas not harassed parents getting stressed by it.

there should be no such thing as a firework 'party' that's seriously saying hey all you gangsters come round with your guns

Fireworks should only be in the hands of proffessionals ........I don't mind the silent ones that go 'poof' and make pretty colours in the sky ...silently..

but the big ones got go bang ...seriously why?

a child i born with two reflexes ..falling (aka micheal jackson balconey dangling) and loud noises , not just any loud noise but blowing stuff up loud noises ie fireworks

crazyspaniel · 30/10/2011 12:27

You might think they're fun but if, like me, you had a dog that is traumatised by bangs and flashes, and spends the evenings around 5th November trembling like a leaf, panting with stress, and trying to claw her way into cupboards to hide, you might not be so quick to dismiss people who hate fireworks as "moaning". If it was just one night it wouldn't be so bad, but it seems to start around Halloween and finish the weekend after the actual Guy Fawkes night.

YANBU
I love fireworks.

usualsuspect · 30/10/2011 12:57

I love to watch fireworks

Nancy66 · 30/10/2011 13:06

We have a firework party every year in our garden - it's one of my favourite days of the year.

if the fireworks are handled properly - and everyone keeps their distance it's perfectly safe....

HappyMummyOfOne · 30/10/2011 13:11

Love them too and we always have our own display.

Yes they can be dangerous but so is smoking and drinking and thats done daily by millions!!

meglet · 30/10/2011 13:15

yanbu.

But only at organised displays. Can't stand them in peoples back gardens.

AngryFeet · 30/10/2011 13:15

I love the big displays but won't go to ones in friends backgardens after a horrible experience years ago when a firework fell over and began shooting big fire balls towards us. One missed my friend by inches and went indoors destroying a TV. Luckily noone was hurt.

My DH has a pyrotechnic licence so I am happy for him to do them although he prefers not to bother and to go and watch instead. He used to do them for New Years Eve at my Dads hotel when we used to live there.

I am funny about giving my kids sparklers too - I have to hold it with them just in case (they are only 4 and 7 though).

LydiaWickham · 30/10/2011 13:26

YANBU - I love fireworks! At the sight of a pretty firework I stop being a 30-something sensible mum and am back to being a 7 year old. They are so exciting and pretty and fun.

wherearemysocks · 30/10/2011 13:33

I love fireworks. We had them at our wedding too.

ripstheirthroatoutliveupstairs · 30/10/2011 13:39

I am ridiculously over excited about them. Me and DD are going to three different displays and will have some sparklers too.
I see the point about animals being scared, my cats have been a bit trembly for the last couple of nights when they come in after having a wee.

MindtheGappp · 30/10/2011 13:44

YANBU.

I am not actually much of a fan or organised displays, but I quite like lying in my bed in the evenings with the curtains open watching the cheesy garden fireworks. I rank it up there with watching snowfall or lightning. Weird!

CreamolaFoamless · 30/10/2011 14:33

Yes they can be dangerous but so is smoking and drinking and thats done daily by millions!!

do people tend to throw fags at each other or spill a drink on you arounds

No I didnt think so

Bloodymary · 30/10/2011 14:46

Yes we love them.

Where abouts are you OP? Ever been to to Lewes fireworks???

TeacupTempest · 30/10/2011 15:06

Love them. Had them at our wedding with a massive bonfire. DH and mates set them off and it was amazing stood there in my dress siping sloe gin. Perfect!

CreamolaFoamless · 30/10/2011 16:16

murder weapons in disguise

catgirl1976 · 30/10/2011 16:18

YANBU - Sorry but I adore fireworks. I get really excited (I know I am sad)

RedHelenB · 30/10/2011 16:24

YANBU Nov 5th & fireworks is a British tradition & I for love it!!! As do the kids. I think shops should only sell them for a few days before though.

CreamolaFoamless · 30/10/2011 16:27

ok for those lamenting the of firewworks was guy fawkes catholic or protestant .......and don't cheat by googling

SheGeek · 30/10/2011 17:21

Nov 5 = my birthday so I'm definately on the love-it team :)

spudinvasion · 30/10/2011 17:31

I bloody hate them.

However, that is my issue and I don't begrudge anyone else having fun, I don't even mind the noise.

I just hate them and they make me all jumpy - I'm a bit like a dog!!!

(I would explain why I dislike them so much but that would push me in to moany and sensationalist territories!)

FWIW my DH and DCs (12 & 6) love love love them and they often go off to a display or just for a drive up the downs to see some from afar. Gives me a bit of peace!!

bemybebe · 30/10/2011 17:42

"ok for those lamenting the of firewworks was guy fawkes catholic or protestant .......and don't cheat by googling"

cream how is it relevant? (I know the answer, but cannot link it to fireworks, which I hate)
Wink

Firawla · 30/10/2011 18:19

cream im sure most people do know that, its taught in schools
i dont see the relevance either, fireworks are not just for guy fawkes but can be any celebration like new year or wedding

startail · 30/10/2011 20:10

Yes I like watching lightning, and snow up to a point. I live in rural middle England on a single road, so I have to prod my inner child to still like snow.
