AIBU to let my kids take time off school to go hunt saboteuring?

I (genuinely) used to take time off as a child to do this, and have very fond memories of laying wrong scents, protesting and generally causing a nuisance to the local hunt.

AIBU to let my kids do the same? The sport only happens a few days a year, so it is hard to fit in around school.

Hmm

Do you have issues with me posting on MN Loopy?

LoopyLoopsPussInBoots · 27/10/2011 15:45

No, not at all, you're like a breath of fresh air.

I see.

Thanks for the compliment.

:o

Loopy - I was on the other thread (and I walked away before I started calling people rude names). :o So I know you're not being serious but if you were, well, you know what my answer would be, dontcha? :o

After all, someone has to do the job of monitoring and dealing with the bastards given that a police head honcho sent out memos telling staff not to bother to respond to reports of illegal hunting. Angry

Andrewofgg · 27/10/2011 15:56

You are as barking as any foxhound. Unless this is a piss-take.

Earthdog · 27/10/2011 15:56

The law is such a mess no one know what is illegal hunting! Plus I think the police have 'slightly' more important things to deal with!!

Andrewofgg · 27/10/2011 15:58

Don't hunt foxes, hunt saboteurs!

LoopyLoopsPussInBoots · 27/10/2011 16:00

Interesting how the responses differ from the other thread!

It is illegal to hunt any wild mammal with dogs. You may stalk or flush out a wild mammal in order to protect livestock etc but no more than 2 dogs may be used.

IndieSkies · 27/10/2011 16:02

I gather that most activities outside school enable kids to learn more than they would in the classroom inc (hunting, divebombing into a pool in Torremolinos, a holiday of a lifetime to DisneyLand, staying at home to watch DVDs on their birthdays etc,) so YANBU, and I would keep them off more often. All the time, in fact.

MonstrouslyNarkyPuffin · 27/10/2011 16:02

I responded the same way to both.

LoopyLoopsPussInBoots · 27/10/2011 16:03

You did Narky, you did. :)

It is legal to flush to a bird of prey. It is legal to trail hunt and kill a fox by accident. It is legal to flush to guns. It is legal to exercise hounds. It is legal to hunt some species but not others.

I also responded exactly the same to both.

TenderlyLovinglyByAGoat · 27/10/2011 16:05

why would you want to disrupt a perfectly lawful activity anyway?

LoopyLoopsPussInBoots · 27/10/2011 16:05

Problem solved.

Make Hunt sabbing part of the National Curriculum.

HecateGoddessOfTheNight · 27/10/2011 16:45

"Also 'our' sabs used to hit the hounds with staves and chuck bottles of antimate at the horses "

Earthdog - that's disgusting.

So these people, to protest at human beings killing wild animals, would intentionally try to hurt... animals?

How vile of them.

And I do not support hunting. At all. But I find it - I want to say laughable, but you can't really laugh at it, can you? - hypocritical then, that people who puport to be protesting on animal rights grounds, would actually think it ok to hurt animals, just because those particular animals are being used by the people hunting.

Earthdog · 27/10/2011 17:19

Crazy isn't it? I have also seen sabs; deliberately calling hounds onto main roads (their vans use to have sound systems which immitated horn calls), spraying hounds in the face with antimate/citronella, sawing at a horse's bit to try and pull it down (then blaming the rider when the horse hit him on the head!!) and deliberately driving into horses' hind legs with their vehicles causing injuries.
