To think the Eden Project is overhyped and overpriced?

£22 pounds per adult??? For what is in essence a large greenhouse?

Alambil · 24/10/2011 22:15

[hshock] that is a bit much!

borderslass · 24/10/2011 22:16

DH and I went in the summer we quite enjoyed it.

Ariesgirl · 24/10/2011 22:28

Quite enjoying it isn't the same as thinking it's worth 22 quid though!

I have never quite "got" the Eden Project to be honest. And that's speaking as a Cornwall-dwelling greenie type.

borderslass · 24/10/2011 22:30

We still thought it was worth it though.

SnapesMistressofFear · 24/10/2011 22:30

If you pay to get in you get a years free entry. I have passed this free entry around my friends.

IneedAbetterNickname · 24/10/2011 22:31

We went about 3 years ago, and honestly loved it! Mind you, I don't think we payed that much, as you get in cheaper if you walk/cycle there. PLus they had a 'den building' thingumy there that week, which was simply awesome! Grin

Abra1d · 24/10/2011 22:32

Isn't that fraud?

I liked it enough but found it a bit pious in tone.

lindsell · 24/10/2011 22:35

I agree - I thought it was v preachy and not at all what I was expecting, small and v biased in the information provided, v disappointing. We went with tesco clubcard vouchers so didn't have to pay Grin would not bother going if you have to pay full price.

scarletfingernail · 24/10/2011 22:42

YANBU

While I think it was worth a visit, I agree that the entrance fee is over priced.

CornishKK · 24/10/2011 23:11

I'm with you, it's just a bloody greenhouse. Still it's better than a disused clay pit and seems to attract tourists.

Didn't they used to do a "prove your local get in cheap" thing?

SHRIIIEEEKPoolingBearBlood · 24/10/2011 23:14

I thought it was brilliant! If you go out of season (which we didn't) it is apparently a lot cheaper. Didn't like the den bui;ding thing though - just didn't get it at all.

IneedAbetterNickname · 24/10/2011 23:20

How can you not 'get' den building!!! Only joking! I can see it's not everyone's 'thing'! We loved it though!

SHRIIIEEEKPoolingBearBlood · 25/10/2011 11:15

Everyone loved it. I was the misery in the corner. I just don't see the fun at all

NoMoreWasabi · 25/10/2011 11:17

I've been recently and agree it is overpriced.

missymarmite · 25/10/2011 11:21

I took DS (8) there with tesco vouchers this summer. We really enjoyed it. I do think it is overpriced if you only go once, but if you live locally and can go a few times in a year I think it is quite good value.

Ormirian · 25/10/2011 11:27

We haven't been for a few years when we abandoned Cornwall for holidays after running our of spare arms and legs!

But I must admit we do enjoy it a lot. But £22? When we went I think it came to about £36 for a family. May be wrong there though...

AteAWholePacketOfBiccys · 25/10/2011 11:51

I like it there but nothing will ever replace Dobwalls.

JeanBodel · 25/10/2011 11:53

YANBU.

Worst money we ever spent. And I've been to Peppa Pig World. Maybe our kids were a bit too young for it (pre-schoolers).

DH & I came out of there and never, ever, discussed what had happened or how much it had cost. We drove home in silence. :)

Animation · 25/10/2011 11:56

Agree - WAY overpriced !!

ShatnersBassoon · 25/10/2011 12:00

It's very overpriced. I don't see the appeal. I reckon it's about £5 worth of entertainment.

hocuspontas · 25/10/2011 12:11

Compared to £34.50 for an adult ticket to Legoland it's a bargain! Madame Tussaud's is over £28 for about half an hour's 'entertainment'. London Zoo is nearly £20. I think all the prices are outrageous but people seem to be willing to pay them. I can't even look to see what a day at Alton Towers for a family cost. Shock

TadlowDogIncident · 25/10/2011 12:20

YANBU - compared with Kew Gardens (about £13 for an adult ticket, I think, though we've been Friends for years so I'm not sure about that), it's rubbish, and I loathe the preachy tone. I'm quite green by inclination and after a couple of hours of the place I wanted to tear round Cornwall in a 4x4 at 80 miles an hour, killing wildlife as I went and chucking non-recyclable litter out of the windows.

Ormirian · 25/10/2011 12:25

See I quite like the 'preachy tone'.Somebody has to say it and it's quite a pleasant way to be preached at Grin

mad4mainecoons · 25/10/2011 12:30

We do love eden! but its fairly local to us and we always go in the winter when it is "locals for a fiver" and then get our annual passes. so £5 to go all the year! thats acceptable to me.

£22 for each adult is ridiculous! YANBU not mentioning the overpriced food and drinks you have to buy once there.

i agree it is a tad preachy but the den building and water play were fantastic for the DC's this summer.

do be careful with sharing annual passes tho. they have really tightened up on it. if they catch you sharing it they revoke it.

jenfraggle · 25/10/2011 12:32

I live a few miles away from it and have avoided it up until earlier this year. My family from up country came down and wanted to go so I ended up going with them as it would be the only chance I got to see them properly. I would have thought a fiver was too much to pay. It's a couple of greenhouses, that is all. I can go to a garden centre for free if I want that!
