To have carpet in the bathroom?

iMemoo · 24/10/2011 20:12

I know you're all going to recoil in horror at the idea but I'm really fed up of cold floors.

I want to step out of bath onto the warmth and comfort of carpet. Yes I have a ds and yes he often misses but I'll get one of those shaped rug things that goes round the base of the loo.

Dh disagrees and wants to put fecking lino down! But he also said if the majority of you lot agree with me I can have my shag pile!

Please please please can I have carpet or aibu?

Cork tiles are lovely and warm under foot - a bit old-fashioned, but easy to cut and lay.

A big NO to carpet.

dinkystinky · 25/10/2011 14:01

Do not do it - we had carpets in our old flat from previous owners. Water didnt get on to them or wee - but they were mouldy as all hell underneath when we ripped them up to put in tiles and underfloor heating (which were much, much nicer btw!)

iMemoo · 25/10/2011 14:04

I don't like the idea of tiles though with having young dc, don't they get very slippy when wet?

I'm kind of like the idea of cork tiles.

memoo Under floor heating? If thats too pricey then ceramic tile (some fantastic designs out there atm) and a luxury bath mat/rug that you can wash???

MollyintheMoon · 25/10/2011 14:14

You see, with bath mats the carpet never gets wet. We've just replaced our old one but it didn't smell (I'm sure I'd notice!) and definitely didn't have mushrooms(!) or marks on it.

We debated a change to tiles but I like lying the baby down on a soft floor. She'd roll off a mat and towels are too slippey.

DejaWho · 25/10/2011 14:18

The floor tiles in my mother's bathroom scare me shitless - they get so slippy after you get out of the shower or whatever - even if you carefully dry yourself on the bathmats before moving on or whatever, I'm convinced someone's going to slip and crack their head open on them one day (probably my husband knowing his clumsiness).

They're also fucking freezing cold when you're doing the moonlight streak to have a mid-night pee.

Pootles2010 · 25/10/2011 14:37

Maybe it depends how many bathrooms you have? We have just the one, so it gets all steamy/damp 3 times a day. Maybe if you have en suites etc the damp is not such a problem?

We have rhinofloor fwiw, very good stuff, its tough (hence name), not slippy like tiles, and warm underfoot. Ours looks like wood, but you can have it looking like tiles etc.

Might rubber be an option?

LaFilleSurLePont · 25/10/2011 14:45

YABVU.Carpet doesn't belong in a bathroom.

LadyMontdore · 25/10/2011 14:48

I really hate carpet in bathrooms as a matter of principal on grounds of taste and practicality!
However we've just moved and new bathroom has a carpet and I lurrrrve it. It's warm, soft, non-slip, DCs can sit on it, I can sit on it. It is great!

LadyMontdore · 25/10/2011 14:49

Also men can sit when they piss, 'tis not compulsory to stand.

itspeanutbutterjellytime · 25/10/2011 14:50

NO! Norty imemoo!

iMemoo · 25/10/2011 20:21

Yes. You have been told.

SirSugar · 25/10/2011 20:54

just put a new bathroom in and there are tiles where bath and toilet are which you step up onto, and shaggy pale carpet around sink and rest of bathroom. It looks good. The carpet can easily be taken up and replaced if it gets damaged as its not too big an area.

Don't use foam backed carpet though as it traps water

BumSexRules · 25/10/2011 20:55

You need to learn to make decisions on your own rather than asking a bunch of strangers, and your DH needs to man the fuck up. If he wants lino then fit some bloody lino.
Are you going to lay it? No, then it's his choice!

Dee03 · 25/10/2011 21:08

Head says Lino ....heart says carpet! Smile

slavetofilofax · 25/10/2011 21:21

NO! Carpet in bathrooms is just wrong.

We had carpet in the bathroom when I was growng up, and I never really liked our bathrooms. I could never figure out why until I was a grown up and realised that it was because carpets in bathrooms is just SO WRONG!

Oh, and I grew up with just me and my Mum in the house, and by the time I had a step Dad, he used an ensuite or a downstairs toilet, so I never had to share with a male. It was still wrong.

iMemoo · 25/10/2011 21:21

Actually bumsex he isn't going to lay it either so how about you shut the fuck up and shove your head back up that fat, hairy arse of yours.

YANBU at all.

If you like the smell of man piss...

Almostfifty · 25/10/2011 21:41

There was carpet in our first bathroom, I am another that ripped it out immediately and put cork tiles down. It was disgusting round the toilet.

We had a new bathroom put in a few months back, with black tiles on the floor. There are men and boys in my house, and they're all good aimers, but the floor around the toilet gets covered in spray. I think it might be more from the flush if they don't put the lid down, but I'm not 100% sure. I wipe it down daily, cos it looks so dreadful.

If it were carpet...

ILoveDolly · 25/10/2011 21:44

It WILL smell of wee wee and need to be replaced after a very short time. Get some nice underfloor heating or a couple of fluffy rugs with that non-slip mesh under. Those are my splurge or save suggestions. I thank you.

mumblechum1 · 25/10/2011 21:50

DH has carpet in his ensuite, I have lino in mine. He steadfastly refuses to get rid of it, fortunately he can wee into the loo without spraying the carpet, but I still think it's a bit 80s. I just don't go in there except to nick his razor
