Thanks MiL, what I really need tonight is a bout of food poisoning to hit all of us together.

How rude. I would never serve guests meat that I prepared four days previously.

thats three days. And if its been in the fridge, who cares?

Ormirian · 23/10/2011 16:36

Perhaps it was kept in the freezer?

usualsuspect · 23/10/2011 16:36

If its been in the fridge ,I wouldn't worry about it

valiumredhead · 23/10/2011 16:37

Oh simmer down, unless it's not been in the fridge there will be nothing wrong with it whatsoever.

Why do you think it will give you food poisoning? Confused

troisgarcons · 23/10/2011 16:37

Stew is best cooked, let go cold and warmed up again

If it has anything in it 'off' you would have smelled it.

In fact if she used a slow cooker - mine goes for days with other stuff added to it. No ones died here. Yet!

Choufleur · 23/10/2011 16:37

Maybe she froze it or I'm sure she kept it in the fridge. It will be fine.

OldGreyWassailTest · 23/10/2011 16:38

A good beef stew needs a couple of days to mature.

AlpinePony · 23/10/2011 16:38

Er, are you always so precious? Do you know anything about food hygiene and safety?

Fuck me OP, are you in for a shock if you ever find out how long beef is Hung for!

hobnobsaremyfavourite · 23/10/2011 16:38

I always think stew tastes better on reheat

thousandDenier · 23/10/2011 16:38

am larfing that you think this was rude Grin

The flavours had probably improved in the four days in the fridge.

HOMEMADECHUTNEY · 23/10/2011 16:38

I would be amazed if anyone picked up food-poisoning from this. If the stew was refrigerated properly, and reheated thoroughly then it will be absolutely fine.

YABU and ungrateful too.

hobnobsaremyfavourite · 23/10/2011 16:39

Oh and cook your own food in future if you are that precious.

Ormirian · 23/10/2011 16:40

I think you are the one who is being rude TBH.

Bellavita · 23/10/2011 16:40

If would have been fine.

Stop being so precious.

microfight · 23/10/2011 16:41

YABU
If you bought a ready meal which I presume you have at some stage in your life it would most likely be a lot older than 3 days.

Or I suppose you must have bought cold meat at some stage in your life and I am fairly sure it would have lasted a few days no?
Cooked beef is fine for 3 days so long as it is stored correctly.

Also stews can sometimes taste better after a few days.

HildaOgden · 23/10/2011 16:41

Did she eat it herself too? Or did she just watch you eat it,while cackling in an evil way?

Don't worry about it.

TheMonster · 23/10/2011 16:41

I could murder a beef stew at the moment. I wouldn't care if it was three years old. I'm starving.

SuePurblybiltFromBitsofCorpses · 23/10/2011 16:41

It's years since I worked in catering but iirc we used to leave raw meat for up to 3 days in the fridge, then another four days when it was cooked.

MrBloomsNursery · 23/10/2011 16:41

Well I would never give guests pre-made food from 3 days earlier. Even if it is your own son and DiL. I don't think you'll get food poisoning though. Also, your MIL may not be able to stand around and cook and entertain on the same day because of old age. Have a heart.

AnyPhantomFucker · 23/10/2011 16:41

eh ?

I would have scarfed that stew right down, no problems

AAAvegetable · 23/10/2011 16:42

Not frozen. Probably bought from butcher at start of the week then cooked on Thurs and eaten on Sunday.

Amazed that most people relaxed about that. Maybe I am overly anxious about how meat is prepared (i probably am, had salmonella once) but I tend to buy, cook and eat quickly and consume leftover within 48 hours.

Ormirian · 23/10/2011 16:42

Was it nice ?

MindtheGappp · 23/10/2011 16:42

Stew is always best several days after cooking.

ChairOfTheBored · 23/10/2011 16:43

hilda Grin

Stew enjoys a few days to 'mature'. Nothing rude about it at all. In fact feeding you so you don't have to cook yourself sounds really rather nice.

AlpinePony · 23/10/2011 16:43

Does your butcher kill daily on the premises?
