To have been so touched by this woman it made me cry?

On way home from school with DS (7) and DD(5). A very elderly lady that I sometimes see round and about was coming the other way so I said 'hello' etc and she stopped to chat. She couldn't stop looking at DD and eventually said that she's seen us around before and that DD looks so like her own little daughter who passed away when she was 4 many, many years ago. She was so lovely and asked me if I minded if she touched DD's cheek. I said of course not, she touched her very gently on the cheek and a wee tear rolled down her face. It was heartbreaking and so touching. I'm well aware that this sounds very soppy but my heart ached for her. I'm still blubbing.

You BOTH have me crying and both sound lovely. I hope that the lady finds comfort in her chats with you, and you with her.

So sad. I am all tearful here too.

Also giggling a little bit at all the 'Megatron, how lovely you are' This is not what I expect from the leader of the decepticons at all.

happydotcom · 21/10/2011 21:31

That's so lovely, you'd have made her day & she'll always remember that moment x

I'm choked up too, and hope OP and her daughter will "adopt" the old lady. OP, your DD could gain a lot from knowing her as well as giving her a lot. When I was a child my life was enriched by two elderly ladies, my godmother "Auntie" and a family friend "Nan H". Auntie especially was my saviour and refuge from my horrible mother. Always pleased to see me and never did I get a cross word from her. She had so much to tell me and teach me; she was a Victorian child and her stories and photographs were like a living history book. Nan H used to invite me to tea every week and bake lovely cakes and scones. I think that between them they saved me from a lot of damage by showing me that I wasn't a piece of shit on the shoe of the world.

That is so sad.
You were touched by her, but she must have been equally touched by your empathy and kindness. Some mothers would have over reacted and been off about her wanting to stroke your dds cheek. Such a little thing must have meant so much to her. And how lovely for your children to see what a thoughtful mum you are, not shrinking away from the difficult and sad parts of life

DawnOfTheDeementedDead · 22/10/2011 07:38

That is lovely, Megatron.

The pain of losing a child never goes away, wether it's been seven years or seventy.

ontherocks · 22/10/2011 11:30

I'm in tears here too. It was so very lovely of you to let her touch her cheek and something that the lady will never forget. I hope you see her again soon. Make sure you let us know if you do. Also so sorry for the loss of your mum last year.

Wicketkeeper, that's so sad Sad
