To have been so touched by this woman it made me cry?

On way home from school with DS (7) and DD(5). A very elderly lady that I sometimes see round and about was coming the other way so I said 'hello' etc and she stopped to chat. She couldn't stop looking at DD and eventually said that she's seen us around before and that DD looks so like her own little daughter who passed away when she was 4 many, many years ago. She was so lovely and asked me if I minded if she touched DD's cheek. I said of course not, she touched her very gently on the cheek and a wee tear rolled down her face. It was heartbreaking and so touching. I'm well aware that this sounds very soppy but my heart ached for her. I'm still blubbing.

Midori1999 · 21/10/2011 17:28

I'm crying too. It was very nice of you to be so kind to her, I am sure despite her heartache it made her day.

Abcinthia · 21/10/2011 17:28

That's so sad. It's bringing tears to my eyes now.

Haribojoe · 21/10/2011 17:32

Thought I'd get through today without any hormonal crying, too late!

Megatron · 21/10/2011 17:32

It was that one tear just rolling down her face choked me so much. Poor, poor lady. Sad

Well done you for bringing her a moment of happiness.

Dawndonna · 21/10/2011 17:45

I don't do crying, it's a sign of weakness. It's bloomin' dusty in here though!

Well done, you are a kind person Megatron.

braveandcrazy · 21/10/2011 17:51

Lizzylou · 21/10/2011 17:53

Oh Megatron, how sad.
I have tears and I haven't even started the gin yet!

That was so lovely of you and so bittersweet for that poor lady.

WitchesBrewIsMyFriend · 21/10/2011 17:55

BoastingByStealth · 21/10/2011 18:10

You got me blubbing with your op :(

TidyDancer · 21/10/2011 18:11

Oh how sweet of her. And how lovely of you to give her that moment. :)

I feel very sad for her though. She must've gone through so much. :(

GleamingHeels · 21/10/2011 18:11

Megatron, do you have a vacancy for an extra Granny for your DD?
Also echoing everyone who said what a lovely thing it is that you just took her at face value and talked to her and let her touch DD

MrBloomsNursery · 21/10/2011 18:13

:(

GoodnightNobody · 21/10/2011 18:32

Heartbreaking.

Brave of her to ask and kind of you to say 'yes.'

Megatron · 21/10/2011 18:36

Gleaming I do have a vacancy for a granny, my mum died last year (would have been her birthday yesterday). Maybe I was meant to meet that lady today, I've seen her a few times and it's only a small village so I hope I see her soon. I'll be looking out for her now.

How lovely, I hope you see her again.
The pain of the loss of a child never goes away.

FearfulYank · 21/10/2011 18:49

DS just stopped his Lego-ing to ask why I was crying. Blush

The poor woman, how sad. And poor you too, I'm sorry about your mum.

that's lovely.

Earthymama · 21/10/2011 18:59

You are a sweetheart, I am off to cwtch my DGC, even if they are saying, where's pudding before they put their knives and forks down on the healthy and nutritious meal I have just served ( beans, chips & sausage) before I have had a sip of my G&T.
Hopefully we will all be old ladies at some point in time and young women will let us talk about our grown up DC & GDC, without dismissing us for having lived a long life.
You have made me Sad & Smile
