WIBU to go out because my MIL is coming over?

Last time I saw her, we had a bit of a row disagreement, and the tone (on phone) when she has called to speak to my partner has been a bit frosty ever since. She called about half an hour ago to say she is coming over. So I want to go out to avoid her.

Is this unreasonable?

Quick - she'll be here in about half an hour! Wink

No, totally R!

manicbmc · 16/10/2011 14:57

Have you something urgent you must get from the shops? Wink

Trills · 16/10/2011 14:57

You'll have to see her eventually.

But if you haven't yet cooled down about the argument then maybe it would be better if you didn't see her yet.

SO YANBU, but if you keep it up (or make it obvious that you are avoiding her) then Y will be BU

childish more than unreasonable i would say

Cathycomehome · 16/10/2011 14:59

Oh sorry crossed posts - well I know I can't keep it up forever but I don't want to see her, especially not on a Sunday afternoon when I want to relax and forget work starts again tomorrow! Grin

Is she coming to apologise? [hgrin]

Cathycomehome · 16/10/2011 15:04

No. She is coming to see her PFB and see how dirty my house is. (not bitter, obviously Grin )

manicbmc · 16/10/2011 15:05

Best get those shoes on then Grin

snoopdogg · 16/10/2011 15:07

Didn't think she would be - run for the hills and leave a note asking her to finish the ironing.

Cathycomehome · 16/10/2011 15:08

My plan is to wait til her car pulls up at the front and then leg it out the back to next door's house for a glass of cool white wine a cup of coffee.

OP posts:
manicbmc · 16/10/2011 15:09

That's a good plan. That way you know when it's safe to go back home.

Cathycomehome · 16/10/2011 15:11

Great minds, and all that. Grin

I'd have told DP to meet her somewhere else. This is your home as well and you don't have to have people in it who aren't treating you nicely. Tell him until she apologises she isn't welcome.

But as you didn't do this in time, enjoy your wine coffee.

snoopdogg · 16/10/2011 15:12

What did you row about?

DawnOfTheDeementedDead · 16/10/2011 15:12

YANBU, but i'd be open about it.

When she arrives, i'd be putting my coat on, and heading out - and saying to her 'Oh sorry i can't stop, got an errand to run. Nice to see you though' Thus giving her a chance to apologise..

Cathycomehome · 16/10/2011 15:15

Stupid row about whether our son (mine and partner's obviously, not mine and hers Wink ) should be allowed to walk to school by himself. He's ELEVEN, ffs. And the school is approx 150 yards way. In a village. With no roads to cross. Hate to think what she would say if she knew he was feral out by himself most of the time...

Cathycomehome · 16/10/2011 15:16

Dawnof - that is a much more grown up idea - not feeling up to it today though!

OP posts:
Cathycomehome · 16/10/2011 15:19

Got to run!

OP posts:
snoopdogg · 16/10/2011 15:22

Oh sweet jesus, still it's usually the other way round these days with us being overprotective and grandma spouting on about how DCs walked to school alone, in the dark, across three fields, a motorway and an unmanned level crossing, aged three.....

she'll be there any minute .......run!

Cathycomehome · 16/10/2011 17:07

Home again! Spent a very relaxing time next door putting the world to rights until I saw car pull away.

She has helpully left me a ten brush handy household cleaning set as a gift, so that's nice.

OP posts:
LizzieMo · 16/10/2011 17:42

A household cleaning set??? Now that is a mean present!!! She did not come to make it up with you then!!

Cathycomehome · 16/10/2011 17:49

She apparently also told my partner (I had a nice cosy Sunday fire going before I was so rudely interrupted) "Cathy burns so much wood - it's so WASTEFUL -I never use cut logs, so EXPENSIVE".

8 weeks til Christmas and the unavoidable pleasant meeting, I guess....
