WIBU to go out because my MIL is coming over?

Last time I saw her, we had a bit of a row disagreement, and the tone (on phone) when she has called to speak to my partner has been a bit frosty ever since. She called about half an hour ago to say she is coming over. So I want to go out to avoid her.

Is this unreasonable?

Quick - she'll be here in about half an hour! Wink

'Cathy uses so much wood..'

what, does her PFB have no input in how much wood is used? Is it all your fault?

FFS

Cathycomehome · 16/10/2011 17:56

My house is not a mess. It is also not a show home. This is the problem. And also probably why her PFB thinks the correct place for towels is the bathroom floor. Ditto pants. (That WAS abit bitchy, wasn't it? Grin)

Hang on ..... let me throw a spanner in this set of works .... OP! You left your house???? because she was visiting?

ChippingInToThePumpkinLantern · 16/10/2011 17:57

Re-gift the brush set.

.... - to her at Christmas Grin

Have you ever asked her to buy your wood for you? Pay any of your other bills?.... bit daft of your OH to tell you she said that though! Grin

Cathycomehome · 16/10/2011 17:58

LOL at Chipping - OH was accidentally adding fuel to the metaphorical fire I think!

OP posts:
Cathycomehome · 16/10/2011 17:59

And no - she has never bought me wood, or anything else. Except cleaning products.

Sorry , trois garcons. I missed your post. Yes, I did. I ran away and had a glass of wine next door.

Well, as I said, that's her Chrissy pressie sorted - if you are feeling extra generous you could also give her a non-foraged log Grin

Cathycomehome · 16/10/2011 18:24

I thought I could maybe give her a halo, or something appropriate like that?

picnicbasketcase · 16/10/2011 18:26

Trawl the charity shops for a return gift for her, preferably try to find something broken or as useless as possible.

Cathycomehome · 16/10/2011 18:30

Maybe if I could find a book entitled "There are reasons why most of your adult children still live at home, you know", that would be good? sorry, that WAS childish of me

Am I the only person wondering how there can be TEN different kinds of cleaning brush in the world?

One for the bog
One for the bottles
A scrubbing brush for the floor
One for washing up... Er, that's about it!

What are the others?!?!

Cathycomehome · 16/10/2011 18:36

Hang on, I'll have a look at the box....

Right:1 hand brush, I dustpan, 2 scrubbing brushes, 1 squeegie, 1 toilet brush, 1 bottle brush, 1 liquid brush, 2 dish brushes.

diddl · 16/10/2011 18:36

Well, does your partner ever tell her to shut her trap and not argue with you-or that you are adults & can decide for yourselves but thanks for the opinion which you will ignore?

Grumpla · 16/10/2011 18:37

Wow. That's a lot of brushes.

I'd definitely re-gift those, but individually wrapped Grin

Cathycomehome · 16/10/2011 18:43

Slogan on box: Makes life a little easier, and MUCH cleaner.

OP posts:
cuttingpicassostoenails · 16/10/2011 18:48

Cathy...re-gifting is all the rage now. Wrap the lot up in expensive paper and give it to her for Christmas.

If feeling particularly generous add a bottle of anti-wrinkle cream (industrial strength).

diddl · 16/10/2011 18:48

Is it dated from the 50´s?

Cathycomehome · 16/10/2011 18:53

I don't know - but is apparently "A MUST for all homes and offices!"

picnicbasketcase · 16/10/2011 18:57

I saw a book called 'Taking the Piss', apparently it was a history of urine. Ideal, yes?

bubby64 · 16/10/2011 18:58

If it makes you feel better Cathy, DH, DC and I all did a runner this afternoon when we heard on our answerphone FiL was coming round ( different reasons, but same instictive respose as you)[hgrin]

bubby64 · 16/10/2011 18:59

sorry " instinctive"

Cathycomehome · 16/10/2011 19:02

Much better bubbly64 - and excellent suggestion picnicbasketcase!

Christmas is AGES away - right??
