To use the childrens' coats from last winter again this winter?

Am I? Both of my younger childrens' coats still fit them perfectly well. They were both bought brand new about a year ago from M&S and are in great condition.

My mum says I'm being unreasonable by not buying them new this year. I say there's no point spending £60 or so when they each have a perfectly adequate coat.

YANBU at all! If they don't need new coats why buy them new ones.

Perhaps it is a grandmother thing.

My DD has 5 coats hanging in her wardrobe, 2 from last year that still fit perfectly and I see no reason to throw out (one bought by me, one by my mother) a fake fur coat from christmas (DM again) and two more from the start of this school term (one DM one DMIL)!

All same age as she has not grown too much, all grans were aware that she had coats that fitted and both still bought more Hmm

Your Mum is being a loon, but is probably keen to buy them something useful. Tell her if she had a wad of cash burning a hole in her pocket, she can buy YOU a new coat could she buy them some new shoes or trousers, for example. Grin

It's obviously a mother thing, are they warm enough thing.

They have to have vests, jumpers, boots, hats, scarfs and gloves as soon as the first leaf falls from a tree. I don't think it all has to be new for it to be warm though.
My mil was obsest with slippers it didn't matter what time of year it was, she would grab their feet and say "their feet are freezing where are their slippers?"
