to not really understand the purpose of Playmobile?

I have 2 dc aged 6 and 3 and we have never gone down the whole Playmobile route. My dc both love lego and spend hours building and taking apart their creations only to rebulid something else. I have looked at the Playmobile boxes and they look really lovely though bloody expensive sometimes! I don't get it, is everything ready built in the box and therefore once you have opened the box it is up to dc to play with the items using their imagination (my dc would get fed up after couple weeks) or is it all in pieces and you have to build all the buildings and playmobile people before you can play (therefore am thinking would be really good value for money and could try some as Christmas gifts!). Would just love someone to tell me exactly what it is before I go out and waste money!

Ooops, sorry Slubber! I fainted at the shock and wasn't quite myself...... Confused

How are the pony girls???

Slubberdegullion · 14/10/2011 19:10

yy but in Holland he was in a fishing boat.

What is going on there then?

There was no angel. There was a fisherman with a fish. Poss biblical, who knows, was all in Dutch.

Slubberdegullion · 14/10/2011 19:11

Pony girls are, well, ponyish. Ponies and deers still big here. With interloping littlest pet shops Shock that forrin scum

NormanBatesTheForeman · 14/10/2011 19:11

I've no idea - sounds intriguing.....

aldiwhore · 14/10/2011 19:12

Ah mind if I just call you Norm then?? Tis easier :)

As an aside, can anyone change their name for Halloween (or any other reason) as mine really isn't valid anymore...

We had the dinosaur Playmobil set in most of its guises, and the pirate sets... the pirate/dino combo was rather interesting, i even indulged in a bit of imaginative play myself... much to the disgust of the kids who were actually mid-story at the time.

LeMousquetaireAnonyme · 14/10/2011 19:13

2and your kids play with lego and you find playmobil expensive? Confused

NormanBatesTheForeman · 14/10/2011 19:14

Feel free to call me Norm.... most people do! Or Normski if they are feeling particularly chummy.....

Slubber was it this set you saw? If so, then that's apparently "Black Pete", not a fisherman........

aldiwhore · 14/10/2011 19:18

Ah well Norm it is, it would be presumptious of me to assume we're anywhere near the 'chummy' stage yet. Smile

Anyhoo...

GuillotinedMaryLacey · 14/10/2011 19:18

We've never had it either. By the time we have Happyland and Peppa Pig world (houses, shops, school, museum etc) and now a wooden dolls house, I'm not sure how much capacity DD has for character based imaginative play!

Soundofhiswings · 14/10/2011 19:19

My wife has spent many hours on trying to convert me from Lego to Playmobile.

NEVER. GOING. TO. HAPPEN.

I hate the fact playmobile is so BIG, which makes it really hard to store away and when it's being played with the room looks like a bombsite.

NormanBatesTheForeman · 14/10/2011 19:21

Ah yes - the playroom is in fact a town called Lowbeach-on-Sea, Playmoland these days..........

Not much room to move for all the Playmobil buildings....... but that's the way it is, at least they get played with constantly.

stepawayfromtheecclescakes · 14/10/2011 19:28

playmobil rocks, I would play with it now but DS's are 15 and 18 Sad

stepawayfromtheecclescakes · 14/10/2011 19:28

actually sod it its probably still in the loft

TiggyD · 14/10/2011 19:30

Playmobil 1-2-3 is cool too. Ideal nursery toy.

Lisatheonewhoeatsdrytoast · 14/10/2011 19:32

My DS loves Lego Duplo, never gave a thought to Playmobile? What's the main difference??

He is only coming up for 3 mind? Confused

NormanBatesTheForeman · 14/10/2011 19:34

Lego is more for building stuff with, and Playmobil is more for imaginative play, although when you get the sets there are things to put together first before you play with it. Once the Playmobil is put together it's less likely to fall apart (apart from some of the buildings, but it depends how boisterous you are with them). Lego is great for building stuff, but tends to fall apart quite easily when you play with it.

Slubberdegullion · 14/10/2011 19:36

Norman, it's the very same. What does it mean?

Listen folks, even though this thread is in the HELL that is Aibu there are a formalities about discussing playmobil (NO E guys) on mn.

  1. no dissing of playmobil

Ok so there is one formality but seriously it's a serious one.

DON'T SLAG THE PLAYMO.

NormanBatesTheForeman · 14/10/2011 19:38

I like your rules, Slubber!

I think Black Pete is some sort of Dutch helper to Santa Claus...... not sure..... Hmm

Slubberdegullion · 14/10/2011 19:40

Soundofhiswings, you are thinking of the big sets. The plane, the house, the dolphin arena and all that jazz.

Calm yourself.

Playmobil can be small. It can be discreet.

Just a little fawn, or even a puppy with a carrot nicked offf the farmer set. HOURS OF FUN.

WinterIsComing · 14/10/2011 19:41

Heresy!

I agree

Choufleur · 14/10/2011 19:41

Playmobil is fab. DS has a castle, fort, pirate ship and all the dinosaur stuff. He spends hours with it and we got half of it second hand off ebay for not very much.

His lego on the other hand has cost a small bloody fortune and doesn't get played with half as much.

NormanBatesTheForeman · 14/10/2011 19:41

Or a couple of builders with a mug of tea wheelbarrow.......

Takver · 14/10/2011 19:41

"I hate the fact playmobile is so BIG"

??? !

DD loves her playmobil, has done for years, (and uses it with her lego), but surely the only downside is that it is all so teeny teeny tiny and you spend an awful lot of time looking for the missing 6mm long baby rabbit that is meant to be building a lego hutch with the 3mm long hammer in order to share with the 1cm long kitten . . . .
(not now, to be fair, she's 9 and can lose and find her rabbits all on her own Grin)

Slubberdegullion · 14/10/2011 19:42

Norman, how can a pirate be a FC helper?

He is a pretty snazzy pirate truth be told, but hardly an elf is he? And in a boat?

Still boggling.

CardyMow · 14/10/2011 19:42

DS3 is 8.5mo...and I have already bought him 2 sets of Playmo 123 for his birthday (He's not really a put-in-the-mouth baby). They never had 123 when my older dc were tiny - and we also still have all the dinosaur stuff. Am adamant that DS3 is going to love Playmobil, unlike my older boys, who are lego fiends.
