AIBU to not want a workman to poo in my toilet?

CreamolaFoamless · 14/10/2011 14:00

Earlier today I was having my boiler serviced and two men came to do it.

The older man said 'can I use your toilet' , I said 'yes of course' and directed him to the bathroom. Thinking he just needed to pass water

But he had a poo in it! He was in there a good 10 minutes and has colleague was looking embarressed as we chatted.

It stank ! Really stank ...why do people think it's ok to poo in someone elses house

Would it be unreasonable to refuse workmen toilet access in future [hshock]

I'm using the term workmen because I don't know what else to call them

Ewwww littlemiss no my DM is like that, she has dreadful IBS and you can hear everything in the toilet Envy, and sometimes she does not flush Envy. But yes I keep it to myself and when she is gone, out comes the Domestos and Anti bac Smile. Loos are made for pooing and pissing in, not decoration. To deny the poor man access to a loo when he is doing work in your house, imo is goes against his human rights. Would you rather clean up the mess from your carpet op Hmm, sounds like he had dodgy bowels. I know what I much rather do.

Sassybeast · 15/10/2011 09:20

There are some reet delicate little flowers it's true. Never heard so much shit in all my life Hmm

pigletmania · 15/10/2011 10:01

Totally lostinthewoods even if op does not like it, if she has a worker in her house its her duty as a client to provide appropriate toilet facilities, if not she can be taken to court or whatever.

pigletmania · 15/10/2011 10:02

I am Shock about the mentality of some, I really am. No I don't think her shit does stink does it!

LostInTheWoods · 15/10/2011 10:08

Spuddy just noticed your post.

That really is terrible. How on earth can people be so dam rude!

As far as I am concerned, it is a basic courtesy to not just allow but to expect anybody you have invited into your home to have access to the toilet facilities. It's as basic as putting the kettle on.

Andrewofgg · 15/10/2011 10:25

This thread has the runs . . .

yellowraincoat · 15/10/2011 10:31

I am a bit poophobic (and I've worked in a care home, cleaning it up) so I wouldn't be too happy about this, but at the same time, what can you do? Everyone poops. [shrug]

As for rinsing mince, madness. My mother does this.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 15/10/2011 10:34

TigerdrierII and Creamola - my post on the dangers of holding in a poo for ages (days/weeks) was not worrying about the workman's bowels, but was aimed at anyone who might think it a good idea to hold in their poo for a week or a fortnight, in order only to poo in their own toilet!

One other little nugget. If you hold onto your poo for so long that it becomes impacted and rock-hard, and you do still manage to pass it, you could injure the anal sphincter on the way out, causing an anal fissure - a tear that would bleed and be very painful indeed. Another reason why poo-witholding is not a good idea.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 15/10/2011 10:36

Apologies - Tigerdrier should read Tigerdriver - apparently my 'v' key isn't working and I didn't notice it was missing in your name. And yes, I know I am managing a 'v' now, but that is by copying and pasting.

kimycoughdrop · 15/10/2011 10:40

I had a nightmare with my builders ! They were working in the garden and the house was locked, they came after I had left the house so nothing I could do. That evening the dog came in and started rolling all over our lovely large rug and she stunk. When I went in the garden the builder had done a very messy poo in a plastic bag and left it in the garden where the dog found it. My poor husband had to deal with it I just couldn't cope. So maybe its best that they can get to a loo !

MrBloomsNursery · 15/10/2011 10:45

Can I just say - I have NEVER refused anyone to use my toilet - like friends or family who have come to visit. Believe me, I know, because my Aunt has done some whoppers in our downstairs loo Sad, sound effects included...

BUT, I do believe the OP is not being U to not want to have strangers poo in her toilet...It's pretty disgusting, but I discovered Dettol antiseptic spray at work, and my life changed. I realised I could sanitise surfaces (and the air) without touching them. Also having those blue toilet things that you put in the cistern give the water a lovely colour, and they wash away any poo stains without you ever having to look at them.

Also, I've said this before, but when I go on holiday I get constipation for about 4 days because I can't poo on a strange toilet. It's more a mental thing than a physical thing, and I know I'm not alone in this.

I had a good laugh at this thread yesterday, but all this health talk has depressed me a bit now. :(. Piles are a killer.

BimboNo5 · 15/10/2011 11:04

OP and MrBloom, you are mental. People can no more help needing a shit than needing to breath. Which is disgusting to as if they just happen to be in close proximity to you you will then be inhaling air that has been in their gob- urrrrghh best not let the scummy workmen breathe either then!

BimboNo5 · 15/10/2011 11:05

MrBloom you have major issues. Please get some help before you pass them onto another human being you raise.

BullyBeefBadgers · 15/10/2011 11:15

Haven't read whole thread yet but so far you haven't had ,much support so thought I would back you up OP. I think you are not BU in not wanting him to poo in your loo (hah it rhymes! Grin ) I personally was brought up not to poo in other people's toilets or in public ones. I go every morning and don't need to for the rest of the day so it's never been an issue. If he has a medical problem then I think we can let him off but otherwise YANBU!

BullyBeefBadgers · 15/10/2011 11:17

BTW would just like to add that if anyone does poo in my loo Im not going to complain and or mind ... just don't like it is all! But then I am a little strange as went through a phase of not being able to wee unless the handdryer was on in public loos Hmm

bumpsnowjustplump · 15/10/2011 11:23

I am a community carer and so work in peoples homes. I only work part time so evenings from 7 till 11 but at weekends I work from 6 in the morning till 9.30 at night. I do have rest periods but not always in the vacinity of public toilets. There are some service users who refuse us toilet facilities and we have to hold on as best we can.... not nice and very demeaning!!

littlemisssarcastic · 15/10/2011 11:27

BullyBeef Are you actually saying that only workmen with a medical problem should be allowed to use someone else's toilet for a poo? Confused

It is unreasonable to expect anyone in your home to go without using your toilet unless they are the next door neighbour who only pops rounds when they need a poo and disappear straight after Grin.

Whilst we may not like it, would you consider it reasonable to expect someone in your house to hold onto their wee all day and never use a toilet?

As I said earlier, I don't like strange people pooing on my toilet...hell I don't even like some family members who do not live with me to poo on my toilet, but I know IABU, so I say nothing and secretly hope they only need a wee. Grin

What irks me more is the workmen who poo on my toilet coming down the stairs followed by a fug of smelly poo smell with a huge Grin on their faces. Why?? Why would you be grinning at the fact that you've just stunk someone's house out? I just don't get it. And it isn't an embarrassed grin either..more a 'this is hilarious' grin.

pigletmania · 15/10/2011 11:27

Bullybeef not everyone poos at a certain time, and some people have bowl issues or simply not feeling too well, which might be the case of this poor bloke. Its not good to hold your poo, it can make things worse for you. I am astounded how some would deny someone a basic right, gosh you do need some therapy. It does not mean I would be happy about it, but I would never ever deny someone the use of my loo. Tell me op, what do you expect him do do, if you said no! Would you be happy with him taking a crap in your garden, I know what I would rather.

BullyBeefBadgers · 15/10/2011 11:27

kimycoughdrop's post has reminded me of something - when I worked for a large hotel chain I saw some pretty vile poo related things but the worse 3 were vile!

One room that I cleaned had poo in the bath - and not just a small amount - from the colour, separate piles all along the length of the bath etc (no I didn't study it but had to get close enough to remove it) it seemed that the whole family staying in the room had used the bath. Shock

2nd worse was the drunken person who had taken a shit in the bedside table ... and used the bible pages as loo roll

and worst of all was the lady that came to reception stating that she had pooed in her suitcase "by accident" Confused and needed it cleaning and her clothes laundering

That was a lot less fun than cleaning up after someone shitting in my loo Grin

pigletmania · 15/10/2011 11:30

bump that is Shock, really! DD has SN so we are visited by community health professionals, and some have asked to use the loo as they are on the road visiting clients, I have never said no, simply pointed them to my loo and hope it looks ok.

pigletmania · 15/10/2011 11:31

bully I am Shock now that is not acceptable, some people are so dirty!

BullyBeefBadgers · 15/10/2011 11:32

Have already said that Im never going to say anything piglet and littlemiss - I just quietly and in my own head don't like it. I have all manner of people staying here (DP is a student) and am quite used to cleaning up alcohol induced runs ... also as from above think Im quite used to scraping shit from all manner of locations. No don't think people should hold it - I personally - me - don't shit in other loos and get where OP is coming from.

pigletmania · 15/10/2011 11:38

Thats fine you don't have to like it, but the OP was asking whether she would be U to refuse workers access to the loo, that is a different matter. No I don't like it when friends take a dump in my loo or dh, but if needs must.

MrBloomsNursery · 15/10/2011 11:56

bimbo I am already raising a little child, and I always tell her to go to the loo before we leave the house, but I don't stop her from pooing or weeing in shop toilets!! That's just mean!! I know my DH has used shopping centre toilets to do a poo, so I am not teaching her anything! When she is older she will decide whether she wants to poo in a public toilet or not!

Also, I would just like to mention, the other day in Asda, I took DD into a loo for a wee, and there was POO smeared on the back of the seat, and DD (aged 3) pointed it out and refused to sit on the seat. So I am sure things like this will make her form her own views about pooing on public toilets.
