to wonder why I know nothing about a trip to Paris which my child is supposed to be going on next week?

Just opened an email from school
Shock
apparently my child is going on an art trip to Paris next week.
Shock
I know nothing about this
Hmm
I have paid no money (I think - although I tend not to know about money)
Confused
Nobody has mentioned it to me (I think - I might not have been listening)
Hmm

So. Do we think she is going? Do we think this is one of the many things that someone forgot to tell me? Do we think I am expected to stump up £4000 or whatever 3 days in Paris is going to cost (according to school)?

It is a mystery.

I am sure you would have heard more before now if she was really going!

purpleturtletoise · 11/10/2011 16:59

It probably is for next year, but school have recycled last year's letter and not amended it.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 11/10/2011 16:59

A teenage girl whose phone is off!!! Is that even possible???

TiarasTimeOutsAndTantrums · 11/10/2011 17:01

Has she mentioned any sleep overs for that time next week?

KittyFane · 11/10/2011 17:02

I learnt a lot from a French friend when I was 15 ...

There will be a lot for her to see and do in Paris... :o

complexnumber · 11/10/2011 17:02

An overseas school trip takes an enormous amount of planning by the teacher i/c. One of the most important things is getting parental permission for a child to go.

If you have not given that, the school cannot take her.

Could/ would her dad have paid and arranged consent and forgotten to tell you? I bet it's all a mistake and it's a letter for next year, or sent to you by accident. Phone the school now!

ZombiesAtYourCervix · 11/10/2011 17:13

HURRAH! I am not going mad. I have not forgotten about paying or giving permission (while entirely possible this would have worried me).

She's not going.

her words 'Why would I want to go to Paris with school for £600 when I'm going with my friends after exams next year?'

Why indeed?

Hang on. She thinks she's going with friends next year? Shock Confused Hmm?

squeakytoy · 11/10/2011 17:15

best you start saving for next year... and worrying....

look at it this way...

organised school trip... versus unorganised girlie holiday...

I would rather have mine going on the one that may have got a slight bit of supervision! Grin

TiarasTimeOutsAndTantrums · 11/10/2011 17:15

Oh dear!! I feel for you. Would you like volunteers to accompany her?!

ZombiesAtYourCervix · 11/10/2011 17:20

oh lordy what's worse - going to newquay or paris? can i, as a responsible, if somewhat absent-minded, parent, say no to both?

OP posts:
grovel · 11/10/2011 17:21

Newquay is worse. Believe me.

Yes agree, I'd rather give her the money to go to Paris, as long as she stays away from Newquay!

ZombiesAtYourCervix · 11/10/2011 17:38

OK. then I'd also earn extra parenting-cool points?

For Sale

grovel · 11/10/2011 17:48

I'd market that as a marinaded cooking kidney.

Could fetch 2 euros.

Number 2 son went to Paris with his then gf and was nearly totally consumed by a marauding army of bed bugs. Chewed him up proper they did. He only has one arm left....ok that's a lie but he did have to go to the doctors and we boiled all his clothes. The gf had a pretty bad allergic reaction and became really unwell.

Paris, eh? The city of romance and perpetual itching.
