I'm fat, and I know it, everyday I hate getting dressed because I know ill always look shit, I've hidden behind being a mum for too long.

I'm 5ft 8" and weight over 20st I'm not sure by how much but last weigh is was 22 and I've been terrible since then.

I want to change but I've damaged myself to an extent that I can't see how ill ever be happy without food. I did slimming world for ages and did really well but due to 2 family deaths and 6months of homelessness I had a nervous breakdown and couldn't focus at all and slipped into worse habbits than ever.

I'm now settled, have a very supportive dp and two extremely healthy children, my weight problem means I'm ridiculously careful with there diet so its time I was with own.

Will my gp help me? I don't want surgery no way, I want guidance to be HEALTHY. I want to be more confident and I want my kids to be proud of me.

Your GP will be very keen to help but won't be as knowlegeable as a Nutritionist. For example you're probably deficient in some of the nutrients that help to metabolise your food and help to keep your blood sugar levels steady. You should take a chromium supplement and a cinammon supplement. Drink lots of green tea. Good luck

JJ, swap the ice cream for frozen yoghurt, it tastes just as good and has a fraction of the fat and calories in it!

This is why I love mumsnet.

Thank you for the great tips exaspo and squeaky

Aw you can still eat everything you enjoy - you may just have to look at it differently!

For example, on friday I made us a lovely lasagne for tea - that came from a low calorie recipe so worked out less than 400 calories per portion. My other half declared he liked it more than my original lasagne which was rammed with cheesey goodness!

Bit late (only just caught up with this!), but thank you JJ. :)

Honestly, there will be wibbly moments where it all gets overwhelming, you just need to keep small goals in mind.

You can do it! :)

:)

Well I'm getting married next september so if that (and wanting to go centreparks type hol with the kids someday) won't make me stick to it, I don't know what will!

Another tip.. buy a pair of trousers, or a skirt (just something cheap from the charity shop or supermarket) that is the next size down. Try them on, and get something that is just a bit too tight to fasten (no elasticated waist!!).. and set that as your first goal.

Once you are fitting nicely into those, set your next goal the next size down. I did that and dropped a dress size every 6 weeks or so. I was an 18 in March.. I am in a 12 now, and can finally get a 10 over my hips, and nearly fasten them..

Buy a tape measure too and measure your thigh, hip and waist width. Muscle weighs more than fat, so while you are toning up, you might not see anything go on the scales, but you will still be changing shape. Keep a record of your measurements (you can do this on the App too!)..

That's a great idea, I'm in between sizes with jeans right now so they either hang off me or muffin top me excessively, doesn't help despite my huge tummy I have a tiny bum. Totally out of proportion! So ill find some jeans... All I want is to be able to wear jeans that fit and tshirts that make my norks look good fit.
