to not 'get' sports bras?

I just don't understand how they are supposed to work? How are they supportive? Maybe I'm just not looking at the right ones, but a layer of stretch jersey with no wires is just not supportive, and I'm only a 34B!

I would get more support from a really padded plunge bra that kept everyting firmly in place. Is there some great secret that I'm missing?

rookie it is my dream to have bras made bespoke. My breasts are the wrong shape to fit bras. 34B T-shirt bras are the best fit. Any smaller cups cut into the breast tissue as the cover a wide area. At least it means they should stay well-supported and perky for longer Smile

I have two. One Nike one, and one from H&M. I find that the H&M one works a lot better. I am a 36D, so not that big, but the bounce is annoying when exercising. (mostly zumba and classes like that. I dont run. My hips and pelvis dont like it)

maddywest · 07/10/2011 10:47

Another vote for Shock Absorbers here, and they seem to be quite often half price in Debenhams sales, so watch out for that.

maddywest · 07/10/2011 10:48

I do find the sizing completely different to my normal bras though, so trying on is essential! Actually, do other people find this, or am I doingitwrong?

Loonytoonie · 07/10/2011 10:49

I'm a 36C and have to wear 2 bras Blush
I think it's because I've probably not invested the time nor ££ to find the right one, but 2 work for me rather nicely. No black eyes here Grin

rookiemater · 07/10/2011 10:50

Oh no that bra you posted to does look useless, straps are too thin, another feature of sports bras is nice thick straps to keep you held up.I would recommend going to a sports shop or Bravissimo ( sorry not on commission honest) have a good range of sports bras and trying them, then and this is a bit tight if you don't want to spend the ££ see if you can get a similar one in last seasons colours on the internet

redhappy · 07/10/2011 10:50

I will probably have to buy something online, not ideal I know but I don't live close enough to anywhere that sells them! The one I've got is the only one I could find in my town. Will get to try some on eventually, but I'm going to need to just buy something online first to keep me going.

eurochick so you think that would probably be too baggy for me too then? From the way I've described my shape/size.

I'll ave a look at nike and M&S I think.

I don't get them either. I think the people who thought they would work on me didn't have my collosal bosom. 36F - giant bazookas. huge before and after baby. I have the shock absobers, but they don't absorb the shock. gasp.. let me know if you find the miracle cure!

redhappy · 07/10/2011 10:54

I like the look of this one

I think it's more about shape than size, red so they might work fine for you. You really need to try them.

I took yet another candidate back to the shop this week. Useless on fit and bounce. You really wouldn't think it would be so difficult! I don't have any trouble finding normal bras to fit.

oldraver · 07/10/2011 11:06

I wear a shock absorber as my everyday bra. I get very itchy with lots of bras especially underwires and where fabrics have been heat sealed, these are now heat sealed but better than most. The SA is very comfortable and allows lots of movement. I cant comment on its sports qualitys as have only done yoga and cycling in it Blush

WhereYouLeftIt · 07/10/2011 11:21

I honestly think the Dansez Minimal Bounce Bra® is very hard to beat. I was a 36A-B years ago, and they were sooo comfortable for aerobic classes. Even at my greatly increased current cupsize, they still do a great job. Really clamps your boobs to your ribcage! Plus, they look good as crop tops and come in lots of colours (I have them in white, grey, black and red). They are brilliant.

FutureNannyOgg · 07/10/2011 11:37

I wear underwired sports bras by Freya, I wear them for dance so aesthetics is an issue. They are absolutely solid, norks of steel!

anon2011 · 07/10/2011 11:48

I love shock absorber bras - I wear a 4. I also like "prettier" sports bras to wear for bed - I don't want saggy cleavage when I'm older!

Ephiny · 07/10/2011 11:55

I've never seen a sports bra that was just stretch jersey. Mine is not underwired actually but very supportive all the same, it has a wide band and straps and is made of more 'sturdy' material than usual! I got mine from M&S I think.

Are the stretchy crop tops intended to have a bra underneath maybe?

gordyslovesheep · 07/10/2011 12:06

i have this marks's i find it hold them firmly in place - 32c - i trampoline!

gordyslovesheep · 07/10/2011 12:06

holds - sorry sick child on arm!

TheRealMrsHannigan · 07/10/2011 12:12

I'm a 32F and have to wear one for exercise otherwise i'd be in agony. OP if you dont get a good quality one you wont appreciate waht they can do!

I have a brilliant one by Casall that is very comfy and does the job.

CotherMuckingFuntingZombie · 07/10/2011 12:13

I'm 38HH-J (depending on style) and despite spending lots of £££ on sorts bras I've still not found one that can contain the buggers.

MarKettle · 07/10/2011 12:19

I always used Shock Absorber until I tried the Enell sports bra.

Looks like some terrible instrument of torture (and it's pricey) but they are the best of the best.

dinkystinky · 07/10/2011 12:20

Cother - have you tried Enell? I've heard they are excellent - ugly as sin though

WhereYouLeftIt · 07/10/2011 12:28

It might also be worth getting a statutory credit check on yourself, just to be sure that all the loans/cards listed against you are ones you are actually aware of! It costs £2 and can be done for you by Experian or Equifax. Just to make sure no identity theft has already taken place or been attempted.

WhereYouLeftIt · 07/10/2011 12:29

Ignore, ignore, I have two threads open in different tabs, last post should have gone to the other one. Blush

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 07/10/2011 12:32

I saw an advert this morning for something called the 'Aah bra'. No wires and they showed a woman running, minimal bounce. I'm considering it... it's £60 for three bras. Has anybody tried these before?

CotherMuckingFuntingZombie · 07/10/2011 12:46

I shall google now. Do you think MNHQ would allow a plea thread for donations to my bra fund?? Grin
