To give up wearing a bra?

DigOfTheStump · 04/10/2011 20:03

Right, hear me out on this one. I DO wear bras, honest, but lately I have been suffering at times from a gastro/indigestiony thingy and some days cannot wear a bra - it is just too tight around the chest, not the breast, and is actually not too tight, just feels like it, so I ditch it and .........oh!

I love it! I feel oo free, and to my eyes my breasts are not too far south. They're not perky either, but at my age who is gazing at them anyway lol.

So, thermal vests can be bought for the winter, need I ever wear a bra again? Is this a mad notion, or do we just wear bras cos that is the fashion, and there is no advantage.

Admittedly, I can imagine some outfits being improved by a good bra, so I may keep one for now and then Grin

M&S are the best for vest tops and non-wire imo.

sofadweller · 04/10/2011 21:13

Well I would try this, but think I would be at risk of getting umbilical chafing.
Or even worse, groin area chafing. And if I had to hurry anywhere, I might knock myself out.

So not for me.

GeneralCustardsHardHat · 04/10/2011 21:15

I wish I could pombear (is secretly jealous at anyone who can ditch the bras) but I have to be suited and booted for work and I don't think the two really go together. Sucks.

DigOfTheStump · 04/10/2011 21:15

Plasters for my nipples? I now have a mental picture of me with two corn plasters on lol.

I think I might head for Markies at the weekend and see what they say in there.

Cheers me dears - if all else fails , and I keep going commando - I can always tuck my boobs in my waistband to keep them out of the way Grin

I'm a GG cup and never wear a bra at home. Once I'm in for the evening that's it. I've tried all sizes and sports bras but still nothing beats the feeling of taking it off!

DigOfTheStump · 04/10/2011 21:17

PS I am a suited and booted for work type too, maybe I am fooling myself that I look good lol.

GeneralCustardsHardHat · 04/10/2011 21:19

digofthestump probably not, it's personal preference isn't it! Maybe I'm the one in the wrong and should give it a go :)

DigOfTheStump · 04/10/2011 21:27

thing is custard, today I felt naked under my dress, if you know what I mean lol.

It felt so odd, but better than feeling constricted and ill.

And I must be getting old, the thought of wearing a vest over winter is FANTASTIC lol.

M&S do a non-underwired bra that is just slightly padded and fits like an underwired bra, in lots of nice colours. They give me better contour than the thin cotton non-underwireds. I wear them whilst breastfeeding.

nooka · 04/10/2011 21:41

I've never had sore nipples and as far as I understand the no bra = saggy tits has no evidence base behind it. I just hate the feeling of the strap around my ribs. I'm not suited and booted for work right now but I have been.

JsOtherHalf · 04/10/2011 21:48

What about wearing a pull on bra?

patiencenotmyvirtue · 04/10/2011 21:52

I've googled round a bit and there's no evidence at all that wearing a bra will stop sagging. It's fat, what's not to sag?

It's down to your personal comfort. I'm a whipper-offer when I get home, but wear one for running as that's more comfy.

RollingInTheAisles · 04/10/2011 21:56

Oh I wish I could let mine roam free on the range but the jiggle level would be unacceptable.

Alouiseg · 04/10/2011 22:04

I'll have to ask around FB but one of my friends was in love with a stretchy, non wired, non padded, one size bra that she bought from a shopping channel! I will investigate.

DigOfTheStump · 04/10/2011 22:04

Has anyone tried a genie bra? i thought of them, but have read mixed reviews.

Faffalina · 04/10/2011 22:05

I like sleep bras, they're comfy. But normally I just go bra-less at home, esp as I'm BFing and hate constantly getting boobs in and out of the bra.

spiderslegs · 04/10/2011 22:09

I have never, ever, ever, ever, ever worn a bra in all my 37 years, ever. Not once.

I have no saggage & am a B/C cup I guess.

It's all a bloody con I reckon.

spiderslegs · 04/10/2011 22:11

Alouiseg You must be talking about the AAHbra or the Genie Bra - I don't have TV but stayed at a cottage this weekend & got sucked into QVC, it was...hypnotic...

Alouiseg · 04/10/2011 22:13

I have no idea but my well endowed friend was delighted with the bra, just embarrassed about getting sucked into a shopping channel.

CardyMow · 04/10/2011 22:49

Bra-less? What is this amazing thing you speak of? I have to wear a fecking bra in bed. (Even when I'm NOT BF'ing). But that would be because my norks have their own bloody postcode are, erm, on the large side...I am currently (still bf'ing an 8mo) wearing a feeding torture instrument bra in a 34H, but am naturally when the last stone of babyweight goes a 30G. Which is bloody difficult (and expensive) to buy bras for.

I haven't run for a bus since I was 12yo. I have dents in my shoulders from the weight of them. People men talk to my boobs instead of my face. In pubs, random men grope them as they walk past. I have to wear a bra 24/7.

If you can get away with no bra, then YANBU. (Though I am Envy )

Kick2down · 04/10/2011 22:53

Set your girls free, OP! I often go out without a bra on, and never ever wear one at home. You're not going to sag any more or less for strapping yourself into a bra. Enjoy.

DigOfTheStump · 04/10/2011 22:58

I've ordered a set of genie style bras - wish me luck lol. I will post what the results are.

Hunty,

I know what you mean. I would love to go braless but, like you I cannot. I don't think anyone man has looked me in the eyes since i was a teenager.

Have you tried Bravissio?

snowpuma · 04/10/2011 23:12

I also vote for M&S secret support vests. To ensure not too much saggage and therefore a nicer shape under clothes, just make sure you don't buy one that's not too big for you. I "get away" with wearing one instead of a bra quite often.

I am lucky(!) enough to be able to buy mine super cheap - from the young teenager's section!
