To challenge my friend on what she is eating?

I think my friend is starving herself. She is totally in denial about her weight, says she's massive, fat, frumpy etc when the truth is she's about 5ft 10in and only weighs 10st. She is skinny, she just doesn't see that.

She makes out that she eats a healthy balanced diet but today for example she has eaten: cooked meat and grated cheese on a TEACUP size plate for breakfast. Nothing else until lunchtime when she ate a chicken salad (with nothing in it other than chicken, lettuce and cucumber) with a tiny actimal yogurt and for dinner she's had a small slice of pizza with more salad and that's all she's eat all day.

I am actually worried about her to the point where I feel I should say something.

I do not see what is wrong with her weight and height. And her food sounds fine. I do not understand why you think it is a problem for someone to not eat between breakfast and lunch. And a slice of pizza and salad is a perfectly reasonable meal.

Cheers ....Im 5'10" and Im 9 stone 6 .....I eat like a pig, and I dont take laxitives, vomit, have any other peculiar habits either....

I'm on a health kick at the mo and am realising how much I used to overeat. I dont advocate starving yourself but cutting down on snacking and cutting out the crap is good for us all. 10st doesn't sound very thin.

eurochick · 04/10/2011 23:26

She sounds a fairly normal weight to me. And what she eats sounds pretty normal too. I'd like more carbs and some fruit snacks in there personally, but that's just me. At 9 stone she would be very slim for her height but not unhealthy, imo.

I have a BMI of 21 now. It used to be about 18. And when I reached 22 I felt sluggish and fat. A few extra pounds don't sit well on my frame.

mumsamilitant · 04/10/2011 23:31

She doesn't sound underweight to be honest. Has she sort of criticised her body to the point of ridiculous. Have you seen her eat more usually? what makes you worry?

mumsamilitant · 04/10/2011 23:39

troisgarcons, what would happen if you did eat after midnight, would you turn into a gremlin? Grin

Shush now - my secret is out!

Old adage ... eat when hungry - I simply am hungry in the morning - I am a grazer and I eat until about 2pm ..... that would be a yoghurt and a bowl of museli at 8.30, follwed by my packed lunch (salad) by 9 am Grin another yogurt @ coffee break.... and followed by a 2 course meal at lunch time.....If (big If) i get the nibbles late on it will be crackers and cheese.

It really is very rare for me to eat after dark.

droves · 04/10/2011 23:52

TSC ....MUSCLE . weighs more than fat and less bulky.

proudfoot · 04/10/2011 23:55

YABU she sounds perfectly normal - it is hardly starvation!

I find it a bit Hmm you are shocked that she eats "nothing at all" between breakfast and lunch! What should she be eating during this time then? Confused
